That's the whole point. He was a workhorse. Now he's been injured. The point about only having 3 200 innings seasons in his first 6 isn't a knock on him. That's actually good.

I know right of all the teams caught cheating the Astros are the only ones to reach the WS 4 times and win in 2 since 2017. Really makes you wonder what the Red Sox, Dodgers and Yanks really were doing.

If he plays consistently it's a great signing, but it's a huge risk. You never know how each individual is going to age, either. Especially a power pitcher. Very few pitchers maintain velocity that late in their career.
Just look at Greinke. He was never as fast as DeGrom (I remember him as a mid to upper 90s), but by the end of his time here he could barely hit 90 on a 4-seamer.

Same thing I was thinking. I don't know them well enough to have an idea if they have a prospect they want to bring up and spend the money elsewhere. But even more strange if they let him walk to go-to a division rival that's trying to build up a contender.

Good question. They seem to be playing things close to the vest. I think they're something like 120M under what they were last year. They might go nuts and get Verlander, Correa, & Nimmo.

Better numbers than Edgar Martinez with a shorter career. More HRs, more triples, higher OPS, better postseason numbers. And Martinez got in.

I think DeGrom obviously makes the rangers better if he's healthy. But he's not enough to put them in the playoffs. To me it's comparable to putting JV on the 2014 Astros.
Now if they get another dependable starter… then they might challenge for a WC in 2023 or 2024

For clarity, he has pitched 156 innings the last 2 seasons combined. It's not realistic to think he even approaches that number this coming season. Should a team be willing to spend that kind of money on what is essentially a 5 inning pitcher? The richest owner in the sport didn't think so.
