I just want to show some love to Fat Bib. If he had not taken on this cause so gallantly and brought Mr Gallo to everyone's attention we would never have been witness to this event.

Coveted blue parachute to our leader.

204 strikeouts ties Ser Gallohad with 2008 Mark Reynolds for the 13th most in a season in MLB history. It took him 20 fewer plate appearances. He's 3 strikeouts from the top 10 all time.

Matt Chapman has gone a run lately and is up to 194. He'll need 6 in the last week of the season to hit 200, but he's unlikely to catch Joey Jo Jo Shabadoo. Adolis Garica's up to 185. He could maybe make 200 unless the Rangers rest him this week for the playoffs ... oh wait never mind.

Joey is now tied for 474th all-time with Julio Lugo at 876 whiffs. Took Lugo 1,352 games to get there, Joey's done it in 619.

One more club that Joey can join this week: 40 homes runs with fewer than 100 RBI. He's got 38 HR and only 76 RBI, another stat that just seems absolutely impossible.

This has only happened 8 times and 2 of them don't really count because they came in the strike season of '94 (Griffey and Matt Williams) who easily would have surpassed 100 RBI.

The legitimate members are:
Adam Dunn '06 40 HR, 92 RBi
Darrell Evans '85 40 HR, 94 RBi
Davey Johnson '73 43 HR 99 RBi
Hank Aaron '73 40 HR, 96 RBi
Rico Petrocelli '69 40 HR 97 RBI
Harmon Killebrew '63 45 HR 96 RBI

Now Joey ain't diving in no 14 runs this week, so he get 2 HR< he'll be the only member of the 40 HR less than 90 RBI club. If he can drive in fewer than 4 runs while hitting 2 HR, he'll be the only member of the 40 HR less than 80 RBI club.

He better get some MVP votes for all this incredible effort.

38 HR and 76 RBI. So he's driven himself in half the time and only really generated 38 runs. That's remarkable for a guy in the heart of his lineup all year.

The Grand Conjunction has passed. Our statistical freak is 0-3 and down to .202, inching ever closer to Mr Mendoza. He's also managed a K and is up to 205.

He probably needs 3-4 game with no k's. That's pretty rarified air.

ok fair enough. figured a 2 hit night or two would pop up the average a few thousandths but i guess for ole boy those dont come without a couple Ks

What's crazy to me is that some team is going to offer him $100+ million. The good part about that, though, is that it means he's going to get a lot more chances to break the record.

Strikeout #205 ties Joey with 2011 Drew Stubbs for the 12th-most strikeouts in MLB history. He's 2 away from his own career best and the top 10.

And let's pour one out for Drew Stubbs, who I gotta be honest, I don't remember, but who struck out 205 times while hitting 15 home runs and driving in 44 runs in 2011. He did steal 40 bases that year, which I'm guessing makes him the only member of the 40-205 club ever. Looks like he actually ended up with the Rangers in 2015-2016, which gives him a Six Degrees of Joey Gallo score of one!

An update on Joey as a Yankee. He's now played 52 games with them, just shy of 1/3rd of a season.

Those stats projected over a year?
651 plate appearances
533 at-bats
93 runs scored
87 hits; Yep, he's got more runs score than hits, just like Barry Bonds and Babe Ruth
22 doubles
0 triples
41 home runs
65 RBIs - I wish I could hire a skywriter to shout down from the heavens that he's on pace for 65 RBI with FORTY ONE HOME RUNS
0 stolen bases
112 walks
249 strikeouts
.164 batting average
.311 on-base percentage
.433 slugging percentage

On pace for 3 sac flies too if you look at the integer 1 with no additional context.

Drew Stubbs is from my humble hometown of Atlanta tx. Quite the athlete. He had a strong 4 year run with the tsips before being drafted first round by the Reds and having a nice little MLB career. Not bad at all.

Just for fun, I ran some numbers.

Joey is currently at 97 hits in 481 ABs for a BA of .20167 (.202 rounded) and of course the 205 K's.

If he goes 3-4 with no K's that puts him at .206(2) and 205. Obviously 3-4 with a K is the magic number to bring back the Grand Conjunction, but as you will see its not the only way. Going 2-4 wont quite do it as it puts him at .204 with a little work to do. Another goldilocks number is a 2-3 night without a whiff. Thats good for .204545/205 and we are back in business as baseball will round him up to .205/205.

If our boy recognizes the significance of his actions he could toy with us for a while.

Joey has 4 3-hit games this season. Not going to get my hopes up on that one
Mathguy64

Given he as 97 hits and 205 K's, he's twice as likely to strike out as get a hit. A 3-4 night with 0 K's is, as they say in basic statistics, an unlikely outcome.

A little more strikeout stuff as we wind down the regular season.

The top 6 whiffers in the league - Gallo, Chapman, A. Garcia, Ohtani, Sano, and Baez - have combine dto strike out 1,123 times in 3,002 at-bats.

The Astros as a team have struck out 1,180 times in 5,390 at-bats.

Your leaders in whiff % And what a total blowout this has become. A man among boys, truly.

1. Joey .426
2. Sano .391
3. Chapman .381
4. Dalbec .379
5. Baez .366
6. Ohtani .354
7. Suarez .347
8. Duvall .341
9. Garcia .335

Last 6 games of the regular season start tonight for Jose Rooster. 3 at Toronto, 3 home for Tampa. Hoping against hope there's some sort of multi-team tie that makes them play an extra regular-season game to give him a little more grease for the strikeout swing.

Obviously if the Yankees make the playoffs, the thread lives on.

I want to Aaron Boone get in a box. Either roll the dice on Joey when games have meaning or sit him while they have meaning.

WHen I think about Aaron Boone, I think about the scene in Armageddon when the astronaut says to Bruce Willis, "YOUR MEN ARE THE WORST MISTAKE IN THE HISTORY OF NASA!"

That's what I want to yell at Boone "Your decisions are the worst mistake in the history of the strikeout race!"

BREAKING NEWS: Joey Gallo has tied the legendary Joey Gallo for the 10th most strikeouts in a season with #207! Average still hanging on at .200!

He is hitting EXACTLY .200 right now. 97 for 485.

I have to think the Grand Conjunction has passed. My man is batting .164 in his 2 months in NYC and his year to date total hasn't been above .204 in forever. He's not getting to .206 and that K count is only going up.

It was a stellar event while it lasted and we are all lucky to have seen it.

I hate to look ahead but if the Yankees lock him up long term, we could be looking at the first .150-250 K season in history.
