This is crap. Ted Williams didn't sit that last day in 1941. He was a man's man, told Joe Cronin to stick it and went 6-8 earning his place in history.

Joey needs to sack up, rip that lineup out of Aaron Boone's hands and pencil his damn name in the 3 hole starting in RF every day for the rest of the reason.

The fix is in. Joe Joe is playing tonight but he's not in the 3 hole. Boone dropped him down to the 6 spot. That could easily cost our boy an extra AB tonigjt. Do that the rest of the season and it could be 15-20 ABs of crucial time on task. You can't K if you don't play.

Just one strikeout tonight

He salvaged one in his final at-bat to reach 187 on the year. That ties him for the 37th most all-time in a season with the who's who list of IanD esmond, Mike Napoli, Preston Wislon, and the OG Pimp of strikeouts, Bobby Bonds.

Bonds whiffed 187 times in 1969, breaking the record of 163 that Dave Nicholson had held from since 1963. Bonds would better his own mark with 189 in 1970, and hold on to that record like grim death until Adam Dunn broke in with 195 in 2004.

Here's a little Bobby Bonds trivia for you in passing. In 1973, he finished with 39 home runs and 43 steals, meaning he was one homer short of being the first 40-40 guy. But he actually DID hit that 40th home run in a game during the summer that was suspended because of rain and then never finished because it had no impact on the pennant race.

187 and .198. Creeping ever closer. A good weekend and the Grand Convergence will be upon us.

Not only that, but he's also in hot pursuit of more strikeouts than total base. 193 total bases, 187 average.

I checked with Aughra this morning and she said the Great Conjunction is nigh.

#188 in the books! Average down to .197 with at least one more at bat to go!

He got a second. So 189 and .196 and still 193 total bases. Big Joey could conceivably have a three way all on the same number! That would be mind blowing. A true statistical oddity to match all oddities. The Diamond Encrusted Gold Pressed Latinum Sombrero kind of special.

Pace is back up to 219.

He's got 189 strikeouts with 22 games to go. He needs 33 to tie the AL record, 34 to tie the ML record, 35 to break it.

189 ties him for the 31st most in a season with Bobby Bonds (the former record-holder), Danny Espinosa, Adam Dunn (2013), and my main man Eugenio Suarez back in 2019.

190 strikeouts has only been achieved 30 times in a season.
195 strikeouts 25 times
200 strikeouts 13 times.

Joey is 7 shy of his 196 mark in 2017 and 18 away from his career-best 207 set in 2018. Ironically when he hits that mark, he'll knock himself out of the top 10.

A first pitch Homer from Joey sends the average skyrocketing back up to .198!

Damn. That's also 4 bases. The Grand 3 Way isn't going to happen. Joey is one selfish man.

But he's added a K so he's at 190 on the strikeoutometer. So we got that going for us.

Joey was just reminding the Yankees about 1 of the 3 outcomes he can still do so he can get more abs to focus on his (our) favorite outcome

Finished 1-4 He's back down to .197 with K #191. The Yankees finish The Weeknd against the Mets and have a make up game Monday, then they start a set against Baltimore Tuesday. I'm going to say his BA crosses under his K total Monday.

Put your money where your mouth is.

191 strikeouts with 21 games to go.
Pace: 219

Up to 489th on the all-time list with 673, passing Pedro Guerrero and Roberto Kelly last night. Next stop, Candy Maldonado.

Up to 63rd on the active list, passing Marcus Semien.

191 strikeouts is the 29th most in a season, tying Joey with Trevor Story from 2017. 195 with will get him into the top 25, 196 the top 20, 199 the top 15, and 207 the top 10.
The top 5 starts at 212.

Freaking Aaron Boone. Stop protecting Joey Gallo. He's a big boy. He doesn't need you covering for him and keeping him from destiny. You need to grow a pair and pencil him on the card and let nature take its course.

Aaron Boone is going to keep this from happening. If he has to bench him the last week of the season you can see it coming. That's going to happen.
Fat Bib Fortuna
How long do you want to ignore this user?
God, I hate Aaron Boone's face.
.
How do you bench a guy hitting .107 in September with a strikeout rate of .536. This is the whole reason you got Joey Gallo in the first place.

You said you were excited, you dirty liar!

Am I reading this box score right? Did Joey Gallo hit a sac fly? Surely it's a typo, right?

I feel like this is bigger than the Brewers no hitter last night. Maybe the biggest sports story of the week. Bigger than Oregon beating Ohio State.

Phew, Joey G got a strikeout in his final at-bat on what was a very scary night otherwise. He also officially went 0-for-2. He's up to 192 strikeouts and is hitting .196. He's on pace for 218.5 whiffs this year.

He's tied Chris Davis for the 28th most strikeouts in a season.
he's up to 487th all-time, tied with Candy Maldonado and Tony Lazerri.

Joey needs 4 more SFs to equal the number of moon landings.

Both numbers are on the rise as our boy puts up a valiant fight. 2Ks and 2 hits so he's up to 194K and .199. What will hit the 200 mark first?

At this point I'm OK with the great convergence going on the back burner as long as Boone promises not to bench him anymore

You half expect Gallo to look shockingly back at home after the run scores wondering what happened.

I am going to be so sad when he gets to 197 and .198, then promptly strikes out to go to 198 and .197, totally skipping over the convergence.

But this thread makes me so happy.

Here's what the rest of the season looks like for King Donkey as he goes after history

Sept 14-16 @ Baltimore
Really good chances to make the magic happen here. Even though Baltimore was eliminated from the playoff chase on May 28, Joey has been amazing against them, going 2 for 28 (.071) with 13 strikeouts - 46.4% strikeout rate. Since he was with the Rangers most of the year, he hasn't played at Camden Yards this year.

Sept 17-19 home vs. Cleveland
As Queen Elsa would say, this will be into the unknown for Joey because he somehow hasn't played against the Guardians all year. He has been spectacular at Yankee Stadium, though. 11 for 69 with 40 strikeouts, a 58% strikeout rate.

Sept 20-22 home vs. Texas (THE IRONY)
Oh the twisted hand of fate! The Rangers will be aspiring to lock up that #2 or #3 draft pick for 2022 by this time, and the Yankees will be madly flailing to stay in the wildcard race. This reminds me of the time at the Quidditch World Cup where Bulgaria played Ireland in the final. Ireland clearly had the better side, but Bulgaria had Viktor Krum at Seeker - the best player in the world. Fred and George Weasley bet on Ireland to win, but for Krum to get the Golden Snitch, and Ludo Bagman foolishly took the bet. Sure enough, Krum grabbed the Snitch even though Bulgaria was losing because he didn't want it to be a blowout. Same deal going on here, you've got the greatest strikeout artist in the game going up against a team that has been testing positive as allergic to winning for half a decade. Can Joey strikeout a lot but the Rangers still keep losing? I smell a 30 fo 30 coming.

Sept. 24-26 @ Boston
I was in Boston two months ago and that town had Gallo Fever, which is like Yellow Fever, but less throwing up pus. Why? Because the Red Sox have this series circled on the calendar as one of their last shots to make the playoffs and Joey Gallo is the fount of that hope. Why? Because he is hitting .130 against them this year and has struck out 14 times in 23 at-bats, an incredible 60.8% whiff rate.

Sept. 28-30 @ Toronto
Guess what just got exported north of the border? The single-season strikeout chase! Joey has yet to play at Rogers Centre this year, and damn you Canada with your stupid spellings. That's why your team hasn't won the World Series in 28 years, because you want to put the r before the e. Anyway, Joey is incredibly great vs. the Blue Jays - and why do they have to be BLUE - can't we celebrate all Jays? Anyway, he's 3 for 28 against them (.107) with 15 strikeouts.

Oct. 1-3 home vs. Tampa Bay
It's end of the year as we know it - and Joey feels nervous. Why? Because in the greatest statistical anomaly of all time, the Tampa Bay Rays, who lead the AL with 89 wins and are in the top 5 in ERA, are Joey Gallo's beetch. He's got a .300 batting average against them this year (6 for 20) and has an OPS of .967 against them. The only teams he better against are Kansas City, who is just terrible, and the A's. He does have 8 strikeouts in 20 at-bats against the Rays, but we don't want it coming down to that.

In other MLB futility news: https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-end-of-season-stats-races

Quote:

This year, Scherzer has gone 0-for-52 (compare that to 2019, when Scherzer went 10-for-55.) He hasn't drawn a single walk. His batting average and on-base percentage are both a perfectly round .000. That has him third all-time for most at-bats in a season without a single hit, behind only Bob Buhl (70 AB) and Bill Wight (61 AB) for the most all-time. But those pitchers also drew walks, meaning they didn't have a completely empty batting line.

As long as Scherzer goes hitless and walkless for the rest of the season, he'll have the record all to himself. If he does get on base, then the record goes back to Wei-Yin Chen, who was 0-for-44 with zero walks with the Marlins in 2016.
