Have the goalposts moved from MLB strike out records to current strike out leaders? Here's a crazy stat, Gallo could end up leading the league in strike outs while also leading the league in OBP.
This thread has evolved into the celebration of the strikeout and the men who do it better than anyone. Today, tomorrow, last season, last century, it doesn't matter. If you have the skill to continuously swing and miss at the baseball, you've got a home in this thread.

Joey Gallo is the straw that stirs the drink, though. I'm hoping he sets all kinds of records and rare accomplishments this year. He deserves them. If they ever remake Major League, I want him to play the guy that Pete Vukovich in the original - the big slugger from the Yankees that Wild Thing strikes out to win the one-game playoff to win the AL East.

At year's end, I'm going to have a video montage up of Joey's strikeouts set to "Nobody Does It Better" from 'The Spy Who Loved Me." and "Simply the Best" by Tina Turner.

As I procrastinate further into the night against actual work, the last few days of the Joey Gallo Celebration thread weigh heavy on my heart. Perhaps we've lost our way in this thread, and anti-Astro and anti-Ranger sentiment is tainting the true force of nature that is the power of the almighty whiff. Perhaps I, as thread starter, can be the first one to reach out to you, extending the olive branch made out of a shattered Louisville slugger, with the idea that in these turbulent times, we are not so different, you and I. We both like baseball, we both like fun, we both like Joey Gallo, although perhaps for different reasons. I think my feelings are accurately summed up by the once an future heavyweight champion of the world.

I read the MZB book back when I was young and I've seen Step Brothers, but I had to look up the reference. Funny stuff and nicely done.

He's not going to break the record, but he's on pace for over 200. The thread was about Ks, not if Gallo sucked or was an All-Star.

The "Joey Gallo and his ability to help his team win compared to the average RF" thread is somewhere else.

Two games to go until the All-Star Break and here's how we're looking.

1. Baez 115
2. Gallo 108
3. Chapman 107
4. Lowe 106
5. Suarez 105
6 .1956 Brylcream Spokesman Dansby Swanson 100

Also of note is that the Rangers are going to be the first team to both two guys and three guys with 100 strikeouts. Adolis Garcia has 99 and Nate Lowe has 95. That's through 86 games, which puts their respective paces at

203 - Ser Gallohad
186 - Cherry Garcia
179 - Get Lowe

That would be 568 strikeouts among three guys. That has to be a record. Unless those early 90s Tigers with Fielder and Deer did something better, but wow, gotta keep my eye on these guys.

Gallo is now tied for 606th all-time with 780 whiffs. Tied with a guy named Andy Semminick who I have never heard of. A couple of good days here to end the break and he can get into the top 600 by the All-Star break an dave something to be proud of. Next on the target list are Garry Maddox, Cristian Guzman, and Delmon Young.
'
After missing two games, Baez made up for lost time but he's still down to a 209 pace. Incredible that he's played the fewest games of the top 6 and has that sort of anti-firepower. He's also up to 14 walks on the year. That damn thumb injury is keeping his bat on his shoulder too much.

On the all-time list, Justin Upton still hasn't returned to action yest so he's still 11th all time, one behind Curtis Granderson.

This thread is clearly an Astros circle jerk to criticize Gallo disguised as an innocent thread tracking the league leaders in strikeouts this year.

We all know he strikes out a lot.

He's doing what he's paid to do, and most teams in baseball would take the 2021 version of Gallo on their team. The same could be said for Chapman and his elite defense.

The real story on this thread is Baez and Suarez continuing to get at bats, they've truly been terrible with the bat this year outside of running into one for a homerun every once in a while. Baez turned down a 100 million dollar offer from the Cubs a few months ago, and he's got to really regret that decision at this point.

Another interesting story is Yasmani Grandal who has somehow reached the all star break batting .188 but with a .388 OBP and a WAR of 1.9. He only has 3 doubles on the year also. It's the most puzzling stat line I've ever seen, he essentially has one skill, drawing walks, and that's enough to create value for his team. What's puzzling here is that as recently as 2017, he was actually bad at taking walks, he only walked 40 times over the whole season with the Dodgers, yet this year he's already over 60.

It also exposes some of the drawbacks at looking just at WAR, as I don't think most teams would take Grandal, and especially not for the 20 million he's getting paid to just walk.

The A's walked Joey G intentionally in extra innings with a runner on third, denying him a shot at his 2nd career sacrifice fly. That makes 812 days straight without a SF if you're scoring at home.

I'll be out in the middle of nowhere from July 15-26 so this thread might not be quite as hopping as you're used to it. I'm calling on any and all Gallo-heads to help me through this difficult time to honor the Masters of K fighting the good fight in 2021!

Our man is coming up in the derby. They just said he reached 100 homers before 100 singles (first in mlb to do that). I don't know if that has been covered here before. He is just a once in a generation phenom.

If you're jonsing for some Joey during the All-Star break, here's something to keep you occupied.

Best part of this second video is Joey getting a hit in spring training and confirming with the first-base coach that he has no idea what kind of pitch he just hit.

And a little research finds this picture of Joey Gallo at his senior prom, to which he took Greg Maddux's daughter Page.

Joey Rooster came roaring back from the All-Star break with a pair of whiffs last night! Up to 110 for the year. Matt Chapman had a pair as well to reach 113, and has narrow the gap on Javier Baez to just 3 as Baez failed to strike out Friday.

Sorry for the short update. On vacation and I just can't give Joey the attention he deserves right now.

Things move a bit slower up here in rural Maine where the Fortuna family is enjoying a much needed summer vacation. Fresh from our stay in Beantown where I encountered 2 other Aggies and a surprising # of Astro fans, but nary a Joey Gallo jersey in sight. WTF is wrong with these New Englanders? I heard they were Wicked Smaht.

While things are a cool 59 degrees outside my kitchen window tonight, they are heating up in the MLB strikeout race where Javy Baez has cracked the 120 strikeout mark and sits atop the throne made of broken dreams and very intact bats with 121 strikeouts.

Matt Chapman holds down second place with 116, and Joey Gallo and Eugenio Suarez are tied for third at 112 apiece. Suarez had a hat trick Sunday against that brilliant Brewers' ace, while Baez had 2 against whoever pitches for the Diamondbacks. I'm not the greatest fan of 21st century baseball, but I realized I can't name a single Diamondback. My first thoughts were Mark Reynolds, Curt Schilling, Randy Johnson, and Luis Gonzalez. Not so great.

With 93 games in the books, Baez is still on pace for 211 strikeouts. He's a paragon of virtue in these troubled times. Suarez, with those 3 not-so-much hits today is on pace for 195, and that son of a ***** is still hitting .173 for the season. His on-base percentage is .258. His OBP is a ****ty batting average! If you had a guy on your team hitting .258 playing everyday you'd be like jeez, can't we get someone better? NO, that's his OBP!

He's 57 for 330. That doesn't even look right. He hasn't had a 3-hit game all year. He actually got up to .180 earlier this month. That's the highest his average has been since April 13 when he was setting the world on fire at .229.

I'd be remiss not to mention the Rooster, of course. Not the shining example of Ranger baseball on Sunday. Shutout 5-0 and 10-0 in a doubleheader. On the plus side, Joey Jo Jo Shabadoo is up to 605th all-time on Operation Whiff, with 782 all-time. He jumped ahead of Gary Maddox on Sunday,

Baez is all the way up to 457th with 888 and tied with Astro/Expo/Met legend Rusty Staub, my mom's favorite baseball player growing up (her least favorite is and always will be Enos Cabell) and Ron LeFlore. If you're too young to know about LeFlore, Wikipedia that guy right away, his story is absolutely unreal.

Master class by Joey and the Rangers last night. He struck out twice in their 14-0 loss to Detroit to reach 114 strikeouts on the year, tied with Eugenio Suarez for third. Suarez did what seems like an impossible feat, going 0 for 6 with 2 strikeouts in a 15-11 game.

Javier Baez also struck out twice to reach 123 on the year. He's on pace for 212 whiffs. Off to watch some minor-league baseball tonight!

Sir Gallo and the tigers also engaged in a little 4d baseball chess yesterday:

Unfettered, Joey struck out looking anyways.

He needs a sombrero or two soon before Javy runs away with this race.

He could literally bunt for a double. Drop a few of those down, and teams may not shift so severe every at bat.

Matt Chapman with the Golden Sombrero today! Up to 121 strikeouts and within three of Baez, who also has one tonight.

Eugenio Suarez with the hat trick today as the Reds crank out all of one hit versus the Mets. Suarez now in sole possession of third with 118 strikeouts and he's down to third from last in the league in WAR at -1.8. Average is down to .170 as well. This guy is the crown prince of this everything god awful in baseball right now.

A Yankee triple play is more likely than a Gallo sac fly.
