Just another reminder how dominant his stl tenure really was. Angels make up 40% of his plate appearances, but 46% of his K's.

He's also never had a 100 K season, even though he has 3 seasons of 700 plate appearances while with stl.

Our hero and thread namesake is on pace to get 100 k's before crossing 300 plate appearances.

I was surprised Pujols isn't higher on the list due to longevity. Trout is one of the ones that surprises me. However, Trout averages .93 Ks per game through 2020 while Gallo averaged 1.42 Ks per game through 2020.

At his current pace, Gallo will pass Griffey on the all time list at 1252 games played. It took Griffey 22 years to rack up those Ks at .67 Ks per game.

Active players with more walks than K's

Pujols: 1,334 > 1,321

That's it. At least of guys currently in the top 100 of walks or strikeouts.

Alex Bregman is one of the closest to being equal in the two categories. He's at 329 walks and 368 strikeouts. He'd be a candidate to get there long term. In 2016-2017, he had 70 walks and 149 strikeouts. From 2018 up to the present, he's at 259 walks and 219 strikeouts.

I can't help but turn back the clock and marvel at guys like Gwynn and Boggs.

Gwynn finished with 790 walks and 434 strikeouts. His career high in strikeouts was 40 in 1988 when he still won the batting title.

Boggs had 1,412 walks and 745 strikeouts. His only season with more strikeouts than walks was 1998 (54 to 46) when he was 40.

Gallo eclipsed this player's meager strikeout total in about 3.5 seasons and only 10% of the total at-bats -- talk about major productivity!

The dead giveaway is this player was a lifetime .338 hitter. You might be somewhat surprised that said player's OPS is also ~30 points higher than Gallo at .847.

Tony Gwynn was just absurd.

So having peeked at the actual list all I can say is that owner is really good at giving away huge contracts to players that do not generate any return. He's not shy about paying players that's for sure.

Holy ****, the Eugenio Suarez as a leadoff man thing is actually working, which could ruin his chances of a) breaking the all-time strikeout mark and b) have more strikeouts than batting average points.

Since David Bell put Suarez in the leadoff role, he's gone 4-for-10 with 2 home runs, including a leadoff one tonight. He struck out 3 times all on Tuesday but I don't like this trend. If Suarez suddenly starts "getting hits" and "becoming a sub-average player", I'm afraid that Joey Marshmallow might ease up on the throttle and just try to coast to the MLB strikeout title. Homey (and I'm referring to myself here as 'Homey' despite being a white 47 year old guy who literally lives in the suburbs and drives a minivan) don't play that. With his home run tonight, he's up to .162 on the year, the highest his average has been in 10 days.


What I didn't realize about the Reds - mostly because they are the Reds - is that the two guys hitting behind Suarez have the two highest averages in the National League. Household names Jesse Winker (.360 entering tonight's game) and Nick Castellanos (.355) are tearing the NL up. Winker has 13 HR and Castellanos has 31 RBI.

The best part of that is that despite having incredible seasons, neither of them has played in as many games as Suarez nor had as many at-bats. And until the first inning tonight, both were hitting 200 points higher than the guy. Not 50, not 75, TWO HUNDRED.

More later as Joey G tries to be the first guy to 70 strikeouts. He's up to 739 for his career, good for 655th place. A lot of big names coming up in the next week or so - Manny Trillo, Ron Kittle, who was basically 1980s Joey Gallo - from 1986-1986 he averaged almost a strikeout per game, never hit above .230, but knocked 21-32 HRs a year, and Wade Boggs all coming into target range.

A truly wild holiday weekend, one that made me realize that how can I expect Joey Gallo to perform at 100% when I'm taking time off from the update game. Mea culpa, Sr.Rooster.

Long story short, Joey Gallo still leads the MLB in strikeouts, but his lead is down to just 3 strikeouts over 3 players - his compatriots Eugenio Suarez and Matt Chapman, and Cubs' shortstop Javier Baez who has surged into the race as of late. Let's see where we stand right now.

#1 Joey Gallo:
73 strikeouts in 55 games. .216 average. Pace: 215 strikeouts

#2 Javier Baez
70 strikeouts in 53 games, .236 average,. Pace: 214 strikeouts

#3 Eugenio Suarez
70 strikeouts in 52 games. .160 average. Pace: 218 strikeouts

#4 Matt Chapman
70 strikeouts in 56 games. .203 average. Pace: 202 strikeouts.

I'm definitely a little bummed that Joey has fallen off the record-setting pace, but look at those projections! FOUR guys on pace for 200 strikeouts or more. That's exciting in its own right. Baez really came into his own this weekend with 2 strikeouts on Saturday and 3 more on Sunday. That's the kind of groove I keep waiting for Joey to get back into. God knows he's capable, it's just a matter of getting the bat anywhere except on the ball.

Joey Gallo: 76 strikeouts in 56 games, Pace: 220. Average: .211

Matt Chapman: 73 strikeouts in 57 games, Pace: 207. Average: .198

Javier Baez: 71 strikeouts in 54 games, Pace: 213. Average: .255

Eugenio Suarez: 70 strikeouts in 53 games, Pace: 214. Average: .162

With his three whiffs yesterday, Joseph "Danger" Gallo has caught Pablo Sandoval on both the all-time and active strikeout lists at 748, good for 642nd place overall. Now let's say Joey gets to 220 strikeouts this year, his current pace. That would be another 144 strikeouts added to his already substantial total. If he were to add 144 whiffs to the tally, he could jump another TWO HUNDRED SPOTS in the all-time leader board.

When I check A's fans' temperature (via game threads) when we play them they seem resigned to their window closing for a bit after they aren't able to retain the "Matts" due to payroll, yada, yada. However while Olson is as good as gone Chapman might be playing himself into being close to affordable for the Athletics.

Javier Baez has whiffed for the 71st time. He trails Joey G by 5 K's.

I referenced the Golden Sombrero last night. Joey Gallo has achieved this masterful feat 17 times in his short, storied career. That ties him for 11th in MLB history with Sammy Sosa and Rob Deer.

Who is the career leader in Golden Sombreros with an eye-popping 27? No WIkipedia please.
