If only MLB had a rule where a team could just concede a game any time they wanted. Hinch could call it a night right now. 
In Rondon's defense his own suckage has been combined with some well placed hits that weren't exactly crushed. Couldn have just as easily had Brantley get a little softer contact for a hit and Yodan's ball find a hole. The walk and HBP were unacceptable.

Luhnow was quoted saying he was "looking for immediate pitching help", which means before the deadline. So you'd be incorrect there

We have 3 of the top 25 starters in baseball and a top 5 bullpen.
We'll get an arm or 2 at the deadline and put this all behind us. Relax.
Well, we got here tonight because Peacock was expected to make this start, but he reinjured his shoulder or whatever.
As a whole
Basically, the only things that has gone to plan is Miley being good and our two aces not getting hurt.

- didn't sign DK or CFM
- LMJ had Tommy John
- McHugh & Peacock choked rotation spots and spent some time on the IL
- Whitley decided he wanted to party like a frat boy and waste an opportunity
- JB & Martin aren't ready yet
- Framer and a few others just aren't good enough
- James was injured enough to compete for a rotation spot and just moved/stayed in the bullpen

Your playoff roster will be JV, Cole, Miley, and a #4. We certainly can make noise in the postseason with that rotation.
Of course we still would like it upgraded to where Miley is he 4th starter.
