Correa is home run or bust these days.

and he's busted the last 2 days with a pair of 0-fers

Record trailing after 8 has as much to do with the offense as with the defense.

What we need is our bullpen stats in high leverage situations.

True ... however on this road trip how many games did we have where we trailed after 8, then either tied/took the lead in the 9th and still lost?

That's on the bullpen.

@ Orioles.. lost 8-7 after taking back a 2 run lead in the top of the 9th

@ White Sox: lost 13-9 after tying the game in the top of the 9th

@ A's: lost 7-6 after tying the game in the 8th

I know That last one doesn't fit the stat, but it's an example of a high pressure situation. And those three games are very recent.
I don't think anyone is going to argue with you that the bullpen has been bad lately. I have really only ever watched Astros games but I've been watching pretty religiously since the 80s and I don't know that we've ever had a bullpen better than this one. I also can't remember a season where this type of stuff didn't happen periodically.

But I would be really curious to see the league-wide high leverage numbers because I have no way to know how good our bullpen is vs others.

I'm struggling but I came up with a "bright side". The rangers still won't catch us.

I'm sure we are not the only good team to be struggling with bullpen issues. I think the issue is really just inconsistency One week they look like the top bullpen in baseball, and the next week they can't get out at all.

In my opinion the bullpen is the only thing that worries me going into the postseason Especially if we have to go to Yankee Stadium

We are soft for sure. We have so much talent we expect to win, but when we get punched in the mouth or are down in the doldrums of August or a 10 game losing streak we struggle

2003 was pretty solid set of bullpen arms. Lidge 7th Dotel 8th Wagner 9th

More Joe and less Devo

I think Devo has to get demoted soon. He's abysmal

At this point I dont know who from our bullpen I'd trust in a tie game in the playoffs

the slump in June lasted for 11 games.

the 'stros went 2-9 in a series of games vs. the Blue Jays, Reds, Yankees, and Pirates. It was stopped when a 100-loss team showed up at MMP (the Mariners).

this slump is going on its 7th game (1-6). If it doesn't stop tomorrow it should on Monday when another 100-loss team arrives at MMP

Tier 1 - Pressly, Osuna

Tier 2 - Harris, Smith, Biagini (maybe)

Tier 3 - Rondon, McHugh

Tier 4 - Devo

Devo shouldn't be on the playoff roster. Hopefully Peacock and James can come back and be effective, and sliding Sanchez into a relief role should help too.

Butt ugly. The A's are playing like they have something to play for. We're playing like_____________. You fill in the blank. I don't want to get banned.

Altuve is 2 for 15 w/2 GiDP's in the series.

Jake takes an 0 for 4. The 3rd outfield spot is a black hole. Maybe start Yordan in left, so Diaz can DH

Lidge ended up being pretty damn good but he had a 3.60 ERA that year.

Harris might not be scaring anybody the way Lidge did but I'll take him over 2003 Lidge.

Pressly > Dotel.

sure would love to have 2003 Billy Wagner on this team though.

And a bunch here don't think home field is that important in the playoffs. Our hitting difference and winning difference would indicate home field is paramount.

Home field is extremely important. Especially given our record at MMP this season.

However back in 2017 the Indians had the best record in the AL and were bounced in the ALDS. Had they held that lead, we play 4 games of the ALCS in Cleveland and who knows how that series turns out.

Instead we got the and went 4-0 at MMP, 0-3 at Yankee stadium.

So I'm not too overly worked up about having the best record so long as we have home field in the first round

Remember when we lost 7 games in a row THIS June? What happened after that?

Remember August 2017? What happened after that?

Just get the dub tomorrow and come home. We did this a few weeks ago at Cinci and the Yanks. Need Greinke to be the stopper we pay him to be.

Got 10 games in a row at home to get rested up starting Monday.

yes, the best record ship has just about sailed off the horizon.

the Yankees started the season 8-10. Since then NYY is 75-32.

they had a 3-8 stretch in June, but other than that no bad stretches since May 1st.

the Astros won't be able to catch them unless the Yankees play a bad 2 weeks of baseball

What is nuts about this, is they are still missing key weapons due back in September.

Bad stretches happen over 162. The road performance is concerning, but we've been spoiled with lopsided road records the last couple of years. I'd much rather get a wake up call like this in August than late September.
