Pop is the official cracker
Why is Pop so bad as a Team USA coach? I feel like he's too chummy with the star NBA players and isn't as demanding. I also feel his schemes require a lot of time to gel. Not good for all star teams.

Not making excuses, but the quality in competition has exploded over the last 10 years. Then factor in how much more these other teams want to be there compared to the US team.
It's tough to harp on guys like Durant and Lillard since they're actually playing unlike most of their peers, but you can tell the effort isn't in the same stratosphere as other teams.

This team has a lot of parallels to the 2004 team. Older coach, underwhelming talent. This is also all after a 2019-2021 continuous 2-year season essentially. And to Farview's point, the rest of the world has caught up. Maybe a different coach could get more out of this group, but it wouldn't be a gimme (and geez it's only been one freaking week). Let's see what happens when the big lights go on. This team has players that can go into different gears.
I'm other news, Ben Simmons is officially on the block per the athletic. As expected, the Sixers aren't wavering on their demands. Reportedly want and all-star and first round picks. So much for reduced value. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Also reported that the Spurs are a handful of teams that are interested in picking up Collins in RFA. Meh.

Me too. He is the mvp in a good league at 18. That is worth the swing.
With Beal being replaced on the USA team (possibly others), I wonder if they are going to select KJ. He was getting the most run out of anyone on the select team (assuming they don't go with someone not already called up).

If they go the route of just promoting someone, I'd think it would be Keldon. None of the guys that played in the exhibitions are anywhere close to what Beal can do offensively, but Keldon can at least bring some defense, rebounding, and energy and fill a roll better than someone like Darius Garland could IMO.
Bey could also be an option as a solid 3 point shooter.
I think Garland should go ahead of either Johnson or Bey. The team needs more ballhandlers (understanding that Holiday will be on the team eventually).

I like the Robinson addition. Doesn't add much defensively but he's a reliable shooter for the USA team.
I'm going to be relatively upset if Duncan Robinson never plays for the Spurs.

Keldon made the Olympic team
Happy for Keldon. He played well in the exhibition games and I hope he's able to bring the same energy to the Olympics for team USA.
Once everyone is integrated after the finals, I doubt he gets much playing time. But It's going to be a great experience for him regardless.

Congrats to Khris Middleton, Coach Bud and the Bucks. Coach Bud started as the alternate video coordinator for the Spurs and worked his way up. I'm glad to see him make it.
I also really like Monty Williams and hope he gets a ring at some point. One of the all-around good guys in the league and one that Tim Duncan says helped him the most when he was a rookie. I just hope he get his ring once Chris Paul long gone. If another person tells me they want the Suns to win so Chris Paul can get a ring I may slap them. Screw Chris Paul!

Yeah I went into this playoffs rooting for CP3 a bit. He's an underrated legend in many ways. However, during the run I got pretty tired of his antics. He talks so much crap and flops around constantly. It would be annoying as hell to play against him.jteagle said:

The more I read/watch film on Alperen Sengun, the more he grows one me. I think he's probably my favorite prospect that we have a reasonable shot at having at 12. He has such an incredible feel for the game at a young age, that I think he's one of the surest things to be a solid NBA player with the potential to be all star caliber or better.

If we're gonna trade one of our two primary ball handlers, then I really like Josh Giddey. He's second on my personal list of prospects available at 12 right now, but his current fit isn't great with both White and Dejounte running the offense.
