Teams with cap space before today:

Spurs: Up to 49mm. Used ~20mm on ZCollins/McBuckets. So up to 34mm.
Knicks: up to 51mm. Used 20mm on Burkes/Noel. Used the rest on Rose/Fornier. They are toast.
Mavericks: Up to 33mm. Used half that on Hardaway. Signed Boban and some other guy, too. Not enough for DD.
Thunder: Up to 36mm. Still have their space, I think. They have talked with Dinwiddie and Graham. Not sure he wants to rebuild a team.
Grizzlies: Up to 24. Used that up trading for Adams and Bledsoe.
Heat: Up to 14, used up with Duncan Robinson and Lowry.
Hornets: Up to 32, but realistically 16 (because of holds on Graham and trade for Plumdog.

So only the Thunder could outright sign DeMar. If he wants to play anywhere else, Spurs have to agree to a S&T.

I THINK the Spurs could do a S&T of DD at 20mm outgoing to ATL and take back a 28mm max Collins+Reddish. Throw in Luka for fun if we want.

But DD is likely either going to have to sign a 1y+1y player option with us, find a S&T that works for the Spurs or take the MLE.

I don't think there's any way we resign Derozan. If we do then Brian Wright needs to be on the next flight out of San Antonio. This off-season finally feels like we've committed to our rebuild, don't muck it up by bringing back Demar.

You serious Clark? This league is about retaining assets. If DD agrees to sign at 20m then you absolutely do it.

I really only think that's an option IF there are no good options for him. I ultimately think the organization will try and do right by him.

Graham going to NOLA on a S&T tbd. $47MM/4 years. That's great value for a young PG.

Not to fuel further Collins speculation but:

Looks like Charlotte, San Antonio, and OKC are the only three teams with any usable cap space at this point.

Remaining FAs:

Kawhi Leonard
John Collins
Danny Green
Richaun Holmes
DeMar DeRozan
Andre Drummond
bruce Brown
Spencer Dinwiddie
Lauri Markkensen

Penes Kanter
Kendrick Nunn
Dennis Scroeder

Reggie Jackson
Patty Mills
Cameron Payne
Elfrid Payton

Dennis Smith Jr
Kelly Oubre
Paul Millsap
Rudy Gay
Hassan Whiteside

Lots of guys looking for a payday, bolded a few I like at various salary points. A lot of those guys thought they were getting over the MLE.

Really? I dont see it with Graham. I'd rather see how the young guys develop.

Hawks traded for Tristian Thompson, too.

C Capela/Thompson/Dieng
PF Danilo Gallinari/Onyeka Okongu/Solomon Hill

Also drafted Jalen Johnson, 6'9 220lb SF/PF from Duke.

Hawks flipped Thompson to SAC for Wright.

So if the Spurs use their remaining cap space, they can still use the room MLE, correct?

He's younger than White. In 2020 (before they drafted Ball) he put up 18p/8a with 37% from three.

I missed that second part of the 3-way.

Yes, I think they can still use the Room exception, but not a MLE, since they operated as a team under the cap to sign Doug/Zach.

Look at the stats for Doug McDermott vs Duncan Robinson. Doug is two years older. But just got paid half as much.

So Duncan Robinson signs for 5 years 90m with Miami. How many Spurs fans would be okay with that?

$4 million per season more than McBuckets. I would have still be ok with that Robinson deal bc he's younger

Also, Trae agreed to the max extension with Atlanta. Curious how that effects their flexibility to resign Collins.

With only the Spurs and Hornets having cap space, his market value is essentially the $9mm MLE
Enzo The Baker

Haha. I bet the Spurs are offering something close to Conley. Like a $75MM/3 years.

If they were, they'd be the only one and he'd likely take it. His market is likely 18-22 MM. That said, I'm not a FA/cap expert, but he is definitely worth more than MLE, so take my opinion for what it's worth here: $0. Maaaaybe 15 MM on a better team.

I think a S&T is more likely than him coming back to the Spurs.

Not necessarily. I could see DeMar wanting more years. I'd say that's a fair contract given his production. He was a borderline All Star this year. Arguably should have made the team.

Also I think it's important to take into account that he probably has more desirable places to play and wants to be on a competitive team. So he could have a premium for staying in SA.

Edit: Also add the fact that he's been an ultimate pro since the trade he didn't choose and that the Spurs usually reward their own. $25MM a year seems about right.

If we strike out on Collins, is there any chance for a sign and trade for Simmons? Obviously would have to include someone like Lonnie and draft picks but we have the room and now seemingly a roster that could fit well around him

If the Clippers want him, they will have to match salaries.

Outside of Kawhi/George, this is what they have.

Marcus Morris: 3y47mm left. I am guessing we don't take him.
PatBev: 1y14mm - would be a solid fit. And he could go hurt Kawhi for real.
Kennard: 3y41mm with team option for 4th. - Redundant.
Ibaka: 1y9mm. Yes, please.
Rondo: 1y8.2mm. I'll take him, too
Zubac: 1y7.5. Put up 9/7 last year in 20mpg. Another white post would be on brand.
Terrence Mann: Min deal. Shot 51/43/83 last year in 20mpg.

Ibaka or Zubac and Bev or Rondo would be my choice. Want no part of Morris or Kennard.

Morey wants 1-2 stars and control of 4 draft picks. I think the Spurs would trade White+Lonnie maybe one or two picks. I doubt anyone trades for Simmons any time soon. Just too many question marks there.

Problem is that the league is going away from inefficient mid ranger shooters/slashers without a 3ball that can't play defense. I don't think there is a lot of demand for him. And even if there was, everyone except Charlotte needs to S&T for him, so we have to agree to it.

Yea. He has four guaranteed years left on his deal. It's uncomfortable now, but Morey is going to play this thing out.

What is funny is I think the Spurs are the perfect fit for Simmons. Chip Engglannndd has been a miracle worker. We've put together some shooters. We emphasize defense and with a core of Simmons, Murray, White, and Poetl, we would be pretty elite defensively.

I'm on board for a Simmons trade. I'd give up 2 firsts 2 swaps and whatever combination of 1 or 2 young players not named Keldon Johnson.

Morey is a b, so you know he's going to want 4 picks plus Keldon+Murray at the least. I'd give up White and two firsts. Or Lonnie by himself.

The most I'd give up is 2 picks, maybe a third as a swap, and White/Lonnie or both of them. I wouldn't give up Keldon, Devin, any of this year's picks, or even Luka. I could be convinced on Murray since Simmons may make him a bit redundant, but I'd rather hold on to him.
