Trying to figure out what the Heat are doing.

They've tied up 27.5 million a year in James Johnson and Olynyk. Hardly the worst deals ever but that's a lot to commit for 4 years.

Apparently there are Grizzlies reunions in Sacramento and San Antonio this year.

Would have preferred to see Vince go to a contender because that guy can still ball. Oh well. I guess he really needs the spare cash.

He's stated a few times that he doesn't want to just ride coat tails to a ring, and since he works hard to stay in shape, he wants to have fun playing.

Plus, he legitimately seems like he enjoys working with young players.

How much fun is it to play 30mpg on a 30 win team?

Well if you love playing basketball, it may be more fun than just sitting there and watching it from the bench.

I don't think it improves VC's legacy if he picks up a ring as the 11th man on the Warriors bench.

I certainly don't have an issue with players getting as much money as possible, either.

Oh, I've got no problem whatsoever with Vince trying to get as much money as possible while he can. This 1y contract is as much money as he made the past two years combined in Memphis.

Personally, I think I would rather play 15-20mpg and win 60 games than 20-25mpg and win 30. But it's his career, not mine.

Vince needs 627 points to top Jerry West for 20th all time. That is more than he has scored in each of the past 3 years. My guess is he wants to play on a team with more minutes to hit that milestone. Reggie Miller for #19 is about 80 points past that.

I'm sure saying top 20 all-time scorer is more important to him than having a ring like Gary Payton's.

There are several things slightly bothersome about this tweet.
One of which is that 2023 draft picks are now part of deals and me thinking about how old I'll be when that deal is completed.

If you can make $8 MILLION dollars playing basketball for 8 months as a FORTY YEAR OLD...and not at center but as a perimeter wing player who still needs to move his feet quite a bit for pete's sake...all the more power to that guy. Nice job Vince. And dude obviously has done some right things taking care of his body to still be drawing a big check like that while almost all of his peers around the same age have retired.

No one is saying that his longevity and ability is not impressive.

Wouldn't of called it riding coattails at all if Vince would of went to spurs, cavs or Rockets. Probably would have to take half of that though I'm assuming.

Yeah that was my original point. Dude still has game. He could actually help a contender, especially against Golden State

After Simmons and Embiid I assumed it was a broken foot (likely along with every other 76ers fan), but turns out he only sprained his ankle.

It's beyond ******ed what athletes are making these days. However basketball has gone full ******. Scrubs are making a absurd amount of money

I don't disagree. It's absurd. Even for a top 10 player in the world

Fair point

Who really is making out best? Owners, players or networks?

The networks agreed to pay the league all these billions over however many years. They wouldn't have done that without knowing they could recoup the money.

The owners and the players agreed to split that money 50/50.

It sounds like everyone is winning.

So I guess the question is, who are the suckers paying ad dollars to the networks and do we think they are seeing the return? How are Kia sales?

The entire situation is absurd. Theres a reason an average American family of 4 can't realistically afford/justify going to a game anymore. To each his own but that's why I watch the games from home. The networks are overpaying, and the owners and players are making an absurd amount of money

And yet, the NBA just broke its attendance record for the 3rd straight year, as well as the average attendance.

These statements you are making just aren't true.

People go to the games, and they watch it on tv. Attendance is up, so the product doesn't suck.

Sponsors put their product in front of all those people watching. They pay good money to the league to do so, and they make good money from it or they wouldn't waste their time/money.

The league and players get together once a decade and hash out how they want to split up the empire.

"Absurd" you say? It's absurd that anyone can't fathom why players get paid so much. It's simple.

Now, if you're just poorly trying to say that you're insanely jealous of these dudes getting paid out the ass for being 6'8" and having a 40" vertical, I can get on board with that. Being a short white boy is rough when ball is life.
