Pretty specific stats. I would think Spurs fan would be OK just pulling out the 5-2 championship spread when living in the past. All that matters is it's a 2-2 series right now, but I get it if you feel the need to be proactive when preparing for a series loss.Guitarsoup said:

lets be honest both teams and fan bases should just keep quiet, because as of last night this series can go either way easily
The Rockets really needed that Game 3 and now it's the best of 3 with the series heading back to San Antonio.
If the Spurs can find ways to get the ball to the block, they'll win the series with ease. I think it's really bone headed when they take quick shots; there's really no need for that and it's a lose lose situation. I think the Rockets are relaxing on fools gold because even though they made a lot of outside shots, they gave up 62 points in the paint. That is huge!
The only way the Rockets prevail in this series is if they keep making shots and keep making the Spurs scramble on defense. But I don't see that happening because up until the Rockets pulled away in the 3rd quarter, the Spurs were finding ways to score in the paint. You always like your chances of winning if you're scoring more buckets in the paint than the other team.
With Nene out of the playoffs, I see the Rockets having a hard time rebounding the basketball and defending a taller Spurs team.
It will come down to role players and they generally play better at home which is why I think the Spurs will win the series regardless of Game 4.

None of that matters now. 5 championships against 2. Who cares. Both teams are in the fight of their life. It's all coming down to how well the Reserves play.
Now they will have to play a minimum of 6 hard fought games, maybe a draining game 7 while Golden State hasn't had to play any extra games and is healthy and well rested.
Might be ugly in the next round regardless who wins this one.

Unless you played on any of the Rockets or Spurs championship teams none of this really matters. Being from one of the towns or now living in one of the towns doesn't mean you played for them or have ownership. You're just a fan discussing a current series. I'm from Houston, used to work for the Rockets, so what. I make fun of Rockets fans that never played ball as much as Spurs fans.

55 wins: Only teams that didn't win 55+ and still won the title since the modern NBA (added 3pt line, Bird/Magic join the league) are:
06 Heat - starting lineup missed 68 games to injury, won 52
04 Pistons - made big trade for Sheed and went 20-4 to close out the season at 54 wins
95 Rockets - 47 wins. Lowest win total by a champion. Had lots of injuries and the Clyde trade during the season
Bottom line, if you aren't winning over 55 games, you probably aren't a legitimate challenger for the title except for some unique circumstances like a blockbuster mid-season trade or major injuries during the season.
Teams with 60+ wins are even more likely to win it all and it is a mark that a team doesn't reach every single year.
Making the last four of the NBA playoffs while not anything special is definitely competing. hth
Making the playoffs isn't close to competing for the title. But it is a nice milestone for the Rockets who have failed to make the playoffs or have been bounced from the 1st round 17 of the last 20 years.
I wouldn't say you aren't a legitimate challenger without 55 wins. Cleveland only had 51 wins this year and they have a shot to win it all.
In regards to the 95 Rockets team that only won 47 games. They knocked off two 60 win teams (Utah/San Antonio), a 59 win team (Phoenix), and a 57 win team (Orlando). Still impresses me.
Just sad that since then we've just been an average good team with very little threat to win it all.

It is a shame with all those HOF players, the poor Rockets have only managed to win their division 5 times. Less than the Bucks, Heat, Hawks, Nuggets, 76ers, Pacers, Wizards, Cavs, Jazz, etc. Not to mention the great franchises. Five division titles. Same as the Kings and Magic.

I would say that you'd have to at least MAKE the Finals to be competing for a championship. Certainly not getting spanked 4 games to 1 in the round before, but to each their own I guess.
