Lee is a shell of his former self, so is be surprised if he's really contributing come playoff time. Still a good pickup to add a guy that has some skills to our big rotation.

He's fine as a third big behind gasol and The Marcus.

Definitely a better 2009 team than the Knicks

Looking at his per minute averages, they were still pretty dang good last year. He played his most minutes of the year in March and was quite productive. He's never been a good defender, and that's just gotten worse as he's lost some juice due to injuries and age, so figuring out how to not let him kill you defensively will be the key to having him play important minutes. He's a good regular season signing regardless; just a question as to whether he can contribute much when it counts.

The frontcourt rotation has some depth and flexibility now with Gasol, Aldridge and Dedmon all able to play the 5, and Gasol, Aldridge and Lee able to play the 4, in traditional sets. Kawhi and Anderson will both get minutes at the 4 in small ball lineups, in addition to playing the traditional 3.

Never been a fan of Lee. It will be interesting to see what he has left. Definitely an upgrade over Bonner

Not a fan of Lee as a starter, but for 1.6 a year to come off the bench for rebounding and scoring? All day every day.

So I admittedly haven't followed Lee's career and just considered him as an overpaid bulk scorer on a bad knicks team. But he is still a two time all star as recent as 2013 and is only 33.

I get he is a black hole on defense, but the Spurs have a way of improving that through scheme and effort.

Does this signing have potential to be significant? Could he be a 10ppg type reserve for the Spurs or has he just fallen off a cliff since the 2013 all-star season?

He is only 6 ft 9. Is he a stretch four, can he pass at all? What role do y'all see him playing (more of West or a Diaw type big)?

Part of me thinks this could be a nice upgrade over Diaw/west last season where they were just ok. Thoughts?

His per 36 stats are stout the last couple years at 16-11-3-1-1. 53% from the floor almost all in the paint. About 3 offensive rebounds a game. He knows how to work around the basket and even post injury he's a better rebounder than Diaw or West. For a second team guy who can find voids underneath, set picks, and kick out to shooters he's solid. No defense and no shooting, but that's why he came over for 1.6mm.

The last couple years 85% of his shots have been from <10 feet. He shoots around 42% from beyond 10 feet for his career. Not awful, but as his usage has gone down its the midrange shots that have disappeared from his repertoire.

He's made 1 of 29 on threes for his career, which is actually worse than Shaq (1 of 22).

Wow. Definitely the type of player (undersized big with no range) that can go down quickly with age and injury. Expectations tempered!

Still a good signing for the price.

Lee is has always been one of the most skilled guys around the basket, which is why he's been able to overcome his height and lack of outside shooting to be the productive offensive player he is. His lack of staying healthy and his ability to stay on the court are why we're getting him so cheap.

Spurs just signed Patricio Garino. No clue who he is other than the quick google search I just did on him.

Keep in mind D. Lee had more lucrative offers from other teams and chose SA based off what his role would be with the team and I'm sure the fact that SA is a consistent contender. So his value was actually higher than the vet. minimum he took. Lee at one point in his career was an automatic double-double. As you mentioned, injuries and age have killed his production and ability to stay on the court but his latest stint with the Mavs showed he can still be productive when healthy coming off the bench. Even though he was injured for the majority of the Mavs 1st round series with OKC, he showed that when on the court, he is an asset. Also a fantastic addition as a veteran presence coming from top tier organizations such as GS and Boston and even Dallas.

All the Spurs and former Spurs playing pretty good, although France decided defense was overrated.

Mills looks like his pre-injury self!

Mills went off for 30 points today to make Team America sweat. I think Patty will have a hell of a season for us.

I'm ready to give him a shot in the starting lineup if Parker struggles again.

As spurs fans we have truly been lucky to watch these guys over the years. Timmy is gone and you know Manu, Tony, and Pop aren't far behind. Such a rare thing in pro sports to have a group like this for so long.
