OR they could end up signing Manu to the remaining cap space and save the Room Exception (~2.8M) for another free agent. I like that plan now that I think about it.

Spurs have officially traded Splitter to Atlanta for a 2017 second rounder pick and the rights to Georgis Printezis.

GREEK LIGHTNING!!!! Dude is like 30 years old. And was an original Spurs draft pick. I love these types of trades. He'll never play a minute in the NBA.

GIS his gf, Vivi Tsiami

Was wondering why 'Georgis Printezis girlfriend' populated the search bar...

With Bowen's blessing, Spurs to give No. 12 to Aldridge

quote:
LaMarcus Aldridge is coming to town and he's getting to keep his old number.
With the blessing of its previous owner, Bruce Bowen's No. 12 is coming out of retirement so that the Spurs' latest All-Star addition can don his preferred digits.
"You want LaMarcus to feel part of the family," Bowen told the Express-News. "If I can have a hand in that, shoot, why not? I don't play anymore."
Consider it a "Welcome to San Antonio" gift for Aldridge.

Oh no way!!!

Classy move by Bruce. Damn, idk if I would be a big enough person to do the same in his shoes, though. Having one's jersey retired is a HUGE deal. What a Spur BB is!

Gonna be weird swing #12 on the court again. It'll always belong to Bowen first and foremost in my mind.

I heard that while Bowen is happy to give Aldridge #12, Bowen's price was that Aldridge had to agree to let Bowen kick him in the face once.

You'd think they could have done better than a 2nd round pick. I mean a 2nd round pick from SA is basically useless as we're always near the bottom of the order (unless we acquired a pick from someone else along the way)

This is what non-Sacto/SA fans on r/nba were saying...basically "wtf, Vivek? Anyone in the league would have given you a 2nd for him, maybe more? Stupid Sexy Spurs."

Right? He's still on his second round draft pick rookie salary so he's only making 900k, so there weren't many (any) cap benefits to this. As far as what they get in return, they basically cut him. Seems pretty dumb considering that he's shown a lot of promise as a PG who can score and distribute without turning the ball over.

His contract is nonguaranteed too. So he could very well be easily dumped in case there was someone who needed to be on the Spurs roster and we've already gotten rid of the Melvin Elys and Austin Dayes types.

Will be strange after all the hype and this isn't a 60 win team next year... but that's what happens when you win 70.

Next up - Use remaining cap space. McCallum trade and Manu.

From what I understand Spurs now have ~ 2.5mm left. Any chance they'll boost West's salary? Or do they pick someone else up?

I'm in Phoenix this week and I can see their arena from the hotel. Was hoping to see the ill-fated LA banner.

Any of those scenarios is possible. They could elect to just boost West's salary and be done with it.

I'm kind of operating under the scenario that they end up signing Manu with the remaining cap space and save the Room Exception (~2.8M to continue to pursue other FAs). Or giving West/Manu the remaining cap room and the room exception makes sense as well and fill the rest of the roster out on Vet Min contracts.

Would be nice though if we could sign Manu with the cap room, West still takes the Vet Min and we still have the Room exception to go sign another wing or center.

Either way, we should be able to figure out the direction they are going after the next move is announced. The trade for McCallum needs to be done but then the next signing after that will be interesting.

Bonner said he wants to take the vet min to stay or to finish out his career in Boston if the Spurs don't want him.

Spurs have 11 guys committed and still need to sign another wing and a true center pushing that # to 13. My guess is that Bonner ends up coming back at #14 and the Spurs plan to put Anderson back in Austin to start the season. Could be wrong though and Bonner might be done. Just my guess.

Domino #4 as predicted:

Spurs have officially acquired Ray McCallum from the Sacramento Kings for a 2016 second round pick.

The next move should be telling regarding what the Spurs plan is with their remaining cap space/room exception, etc.

Yeah this one kinda sucks especially considering we might have more then the minimum to offer at this point. Not sure the Spurs feel he can effectively pick up the offense. Guy is more of a give me the ball and get out of the way type of player which doesn't really fly here. I liked Wayne Ellington as well who signed with Brooklyn.

Still some decent names out there: Alexey Shved, Ben Gordon, Dorrell Wright, Caron Butler, Marcus Thornton.

Can anyone explain in general terms the room exception? Been looking at cap, lux tax, etc and it's all very confusing to me.
Sher Thing

Ray McCallum's one year contract worth $947k becomes fully guaranteed July 20. Spurs could elect to waive him before then and it would just cost them $200k. Don't see that happening and it's pretty obvious the Spurs are interested in keeping him around.
