No idea who that is, but he's young. I trust this FO blindly.

Wow, I did a bit of reading on him and he sounds great. Good size (6'3), film junkie, and has shown a lot of promise.

I honestly can't say I've seen him as a pro, I just vaguely remember him on one of those random Horizon/Patriot/Mid-American type conference tourneys and him clearly being the best player on the court. Also I'm pretty sure his dad coached at UH a while back. Maybe before Drexler?

The Sac fans (no really) on r/nba speak very highly of him...kinda didnt wanna give him up but they have a lot of guards now. Say he's got good vertical leap.

You'd think they could have done better than a 2nd round pick. I mean a 2nd round pick from SA is basically useless as we're always near the bottom of the order (unless we acquired a pick from someone else along the way)

Has Aldridge and West officially signed? Thanks to DJ, I'm now paranoid.

I like the McCallum pick up. High BBIQ player and appears to have great potential. Haven't seen a ton of him. Plus, Spurs are giving up next to nothing for him (top 55 protected second rounder) and he only eats about $400k in cap space.

Good Cojo replacement. We needed another ball handler.

No word yet. I would assume it gets done some time this morning though. Multiple people spotted Aldridge in SA yesterday.

I wouldn't throw the towel in on Kyle Anderson just yet. He's worlds better in year 2 then he was in year 1. tbh he's shown more improvement from year 1-2 then Joseph did at the time. He's still only 21 years old and that's very young. Has such a nice feel and knowledge of the game so I would pump the brakes on calling his career over. Has to get better but he's improving. JMO

Couple more guys off the board:

Gerald Green signs with Miami
Wayne Ellington signs with Brooklyn

--------------

Parker Mills McCallum
Green Ginobili
Leonard Anderson
Aldridge Diaw
Duncan West

11 guys committed. Still need a backup wing 2/3 and a backup C. Would make 13 guys (the most you can dress). Spurs could elect to sign Bonner as #14 and keep Kyle bouncing back between Austin/SA.

Still some solid wings out there:

Ben Gordon, Alexey Shved, Marcus Thornton, Dorrell Wright, Tayshaun Prince, Caron Butler, Gigi Datome.

Some C prospects: Cole Aldrich, Jeff Withey, Sam Dalembert, Emeka Okafor.

Where are we looking at C? I have no clue about most NBA big men.

Absolutely no idea. Been pretty mum on that front. There's not much out there in terms of established NBA players. Spurs could elect to go the Euro route like they did with Baynes here.

I know the Spurs have shown interest in Sausha Kahn who currently plays in Europe and is looking to make the leap to the NBA this year. Problem is Cleveland owns his rights at the moment but maybe the Spurs continue to try and get him for a second rounder or something.

This is what non-Sacto/SA fans on r/nba were saying...basically "wtf, Vivek? Anyone in the league would have given you a 2nd for him, maybe more? Stupid Sexy Spurs."

Maybe we could trade them the rights to a couple of our own foreigners?

Also, the exact details of the Splitter to Atlanta trade have not been released yet. I know it was leaked a few days ago that all the Spurs were getting back was a combination of picks/prospects of some sort but this could change with the Cap # being higher then expected.

I would really like to get Bazemore back in return from Atlanta but I'm not entirely sure the Spurs can absorb any money back from ATL in that deal. I really like his game though and the Spurs have shown interest in Bazemore in prior years.

Reason I believe Atlanta would be open to trading Bazemore is because they just signed Justin Holiday and traded for Tim Hardaway, Jr.

Can McCallum play defense? I know nothing about his game other than what I've read on this thread.

I was wondering the same thing, since all those highlights were offense.

For a 3rd PG I just hope he can keep from dribbling the ball off his foot. Remember the Gary Neal PG experiment?

He's a solid athlete with good foot speed, hands and lateral quickness. Certainly has the tools to be a capable defender. I don't know much about him either way and frankly he's still too young of a prospect to determine exactly how great he is but it's a solid prospect for a 3rd PG.

He's a smart guy with a high bbiq which I'm sure was very appealing to the Spurs. He does nothing great so to speak but he's pretty solid all the way around from what I've seen/read. Has shown the ability to score on offense and get others involved/be a distributor. He's a very good ball handler and a true pg.

Looks like he needs to improve his shot but I'm sure that will keep getting better under Chip.

Like others I was not familiar with McCallum but it looks like he is a good one. Over the last two months of the season when they were using him more he averaged almost 12 ppg and 4.5 asst. The only thing that concerns me is his FT %. But other than that it looks to me like another improvement over last year.

I wanted the Spurs to sign Bazemore last offseason, so I'd love for him to come over. As you said, probably won't happen, but it'd be nice.

I doubt we're expecting him to be an improvement over Joseph, at least not as early as next season, but if he can be a reasonable fascimile thereof, then it's a good fit and a great pickup for the price.

Reported that Spurs have been in contact with Donald Sloan as a reserve PG along with Chicago and Dallas but I doubt that's the case anymore after the McCallum news.

Nice little read on what West brings to the table as a passer at the bottom of this article (plus a video of passing highlights).

But his impact and playing style fitting with what the Spurs ask their big men to do offensively may have gone underappreciated. West is one of the best passing big men in the NBA, and surrounding that ability with what the Spurs are capable of as shooters is almost an unfair marriage.
Still curious about the last big, really need a large bodied C to eat some minutes at the 5 in the regular season.

The Spurs worked out McCallum before the 2013 draft so they must have liked him for awhile. He was highly recruited out of high school but went the small college route to play for his Dad, which was probably a nice gesture but may have hurt his development and draft position.

First domino has fallen:

Spurs have officially traded Splitter to Atlanta for a 2017 second rounder pick and the rights to Georgis Printezis.

Second:

Tim Duncan and Spurs are finalizing a deal that would pay Duncan $5M next season with a Player Option on Year 2. Once this becomes final:

The signing of Aldridge will be next up. With Duncan only taking $5M that might free up a couple extra million in cap room to potentially sign someone else. If so, that other player would need to be signed before the Spurs officially extend Green, Leonard, etc. Manu and West should be last in order.

GREEK LIGHTNING!!!! Dude is like 30 years old. And was an original Spurs draft pick. I love these types of trades. He'll never play a minute in the NBA.

Haha exactly. Wish we could have gotten Bazemore but at the time of the agreed upon trade the Spurs were just looking to unload cap.

With Duncan taking $5M and then signing Aldridge to the max the Spurs will still have around $3M in cap room after that. Then they will complete the trade for McCallum and take on his contract which will leave somewhere around $2 - $2.5M in cap space. Not sure why Duncan just take all that's left unless the Spurs have some sort of plan in place to use that cap space. It's pretty limited.
