Not sure what they have to trade that is worth the 14th pick. Manu's corpse?
quote:The Spurs will need to unload some $ in order to sign Aldridge (Assuming Tim and/or Manu return). The most likely candidate is Splitter but it could also be a package around Diaw. If the Spurs unload one of these guys they can theoretically sign Aldridge and Leonard to max contracts and still give Danny whatever he wants via his bird rights.
Can Spurs offer green 10 and Aldridge 18 ? Aldridge would be awesome. Could change up the chemistry too much for a run next year if we can't keep green. I would still do it even if we can't afford green as well. Parker and Aldridge would keep us competitive for a while.
quote:thanks - completely forgot about leonard...i'd like to see aldridge and leonard playing together.

quote:Yes, Duncan's deal will be like the one you mentioned above. The Spurs did a similar thing with McDyess. Give Duncan 2 years say 14M with the second year being 50% guaranteed. This allows Duncan to get his 10M even if he only plays 1 years. Also allows him from avoiding a "farewell" tour since people will still be unsure about him ultimately playing another year. Right up his alley. A contract like this will give the Spurs a little added flexibility. Manu's deal could be similar but for less $ as well.
re: Duncan's "sweetheart" deal...
so there's a story going around (Mike McDonalds of the SA-EN is pushing this) that Duncan's got a sweetheart deal in place for next season that goes something like 2 years, $6-7 million a year, with that 2nd year being a player option that, if declined, makes that 2nd year partially guaranteed, effectively making next year's salary ~$10 million and assuming he's done after that.
( I'm not convinced he's leaving after one more year but still.)
If he declined the player option, and decided he wanted to re-sign...wouldn't he basically bank $10 million for next season and then have a whole lot more wiggle room signing when the cap goes from ~$68 million to $89 million in 2016-2017? Why couldn't he just sign another deal when the cap blows up next year?
I'm not sure about losing Green...what do you replace him with? If you're talking about replacing his numbers/value isn't the market rate going to be $8M+ and if you're going to pay that to a FA why not just keep what you have and retain the corporate knowledge? Unless you're hoping to draft a starting 2 tonight, I guess.
quote:Personally I rather them take Okafor because I think Russell is a superior talent.
Who do we want the Lakers to take?

NBA free agency starts at midnight tonight, and coaches will immediately begin to pursue free agents ... well, coaches who aren't named Gregg Popovich. The Spurs coach, 66, told the San Antonio Express-News: "I'm not calling anyone at midnight. I'll be in bed. And if that's the difference in someone coming or not coming, then I don't want them."
quote:Man that's so tough. You obviously keep Green. He is an elite defender and above average shooter even though he is streaky. Tiago is a plus defender but I am tired of his soft serve reverse layups and the corpse of Rasho could probably stay healthier than him. That leaves Boris and Mills. I love Bobo but I think he has lost a step and my hope is to have Kyle Anderson come be a poor man's Diaw. I value Patty because he provides something the spurs desperately need, bench scoring and outside shooting. I think with Toni being as fragile as he is, Patty is more valuable than Boris to this team. Plus Patty owns a pretty cool bar by my house.
If you add Aldridge and could only keep 2 out of 4 of these:
Danny Green
Boris Diaw
Tiago Splitter
Patty Mills
You take Green and Diaw every time. Both are way more versatile on defense, and both make stronger contributions to the offense.
Hopefully they'd be able to get Joseph back for cheap as the backup. Sucks losing Patty, but if I had to lose 2 out of those 4, it would definitely be him and Splitter.
