Is that a real story? If so, that is awesome.

100% true. Was told directly from one of the Spurs minority owners before the first championship.

Tim has said he wants to continue working in basketball in some capacity after he's done as a player. I could see him going the front office route.

How amazing would it be to see us get a championship with Duncan in the front office/on the bench?

Have this gutless feeling that Manu will come back for "one more year" but
might "bail out" if he feels its not working out.

Reading the Warriors and Rockets thread on r/nba is depressing, "don't forget the Spurs were up 2-1 on the clippers too."

Sad. If Spurs had won, we'd have had a nice easy series to prepare for the winner of Memphis/GS.

I don't think we would have had the stamina or health to get all the way to 16 wins, but we would have eviscerated Houston's dumpster fire defense, knocked them out in 5, and had time for a mid-playoffs siesta. GS is scary, but we match up well with them, even with a hobbled Splitter (Green + Leonard takes both of the Splash Brothers out of their games) and then it's a no defense Cleveland or a Chicago team whose starters have all averaged 43 minutes/game since March.

****, Pop honestly might have been able to eek out a title if we just could have snuck by the GD Clippers.

Yep. Playing Houston has to seem like a walk in the park to the Clippers after our series. Could have been our walk in the park.

Do we think Houston plays this pathetically against us? They always seem to treat every game against SA like their Super Bowl.

Not disagreeing, just wondering.

Quitters quit. Pop would have destroyed Houston's lack of effort on defense.

i thought Golden State was the only obstacle for the Spurs once past the Clipps. Looks like they may not even be in the WCF. Oh well.

Waiting for July is going to be painful.

DeMarre Carroll is a free agent. Apparently he has been tearing it up in the playoffs, so he's probably on a lot more radars and getting more expensive by the game, but this is a guy I wouldn't mind taking a run at if his price is reasonable and the big free agents aren't in play for the Spurs. 12-5-2 jack of all trades forward with good defense at the 2 and 3, immense effort, and 40% from beyond the arc this year. He's got experience in a Spurs-y system. Another one of these guys you can plug into a variety of lineups who can keep the ball moving and score efficiently on offense while switching everything on defense.

Another long shot. I miss basketball.

He's going to get a lot of money. Not really practical with what the Spurs want to do. I think Danny will get similar money but the Spurs have a lot more flexibility with his contract and having his bird rights etc. I like DeMarre though.

I think a cheaper option who could fill a void could even be Gerald Green. Another longshot but he could be a lot cheaper option to replace Beli (assuming he's gone).

We should just get all the Greens. Danny, Jeff, Gerald, Draymond, Willie, Erick, Jamychal, and Donte.

I always thought that it was Pop who tries to tell Duncan he needs to stay in basketball, but Duncan always hints at his other hobbies and possibly leaving the scene entirely.

When does the first "event" of the offseason occur? Such as, teams deciding on player options, offering restricted free agents, etc.

Anyone have a general calendar timeline for these things?

Duncan said in an interview, either at the end of last season or during this season, that he can't imagine himself being away from the game for too long once he retires.

Does anyone see a scenario where Kawhi doesn't get max money? Anyone think he takes less or the Spurs decide not to offer him full and someone else picks him up?

I just can't see a scenario where he picks another team if the offers are equal, nor can I see a scenario where he wants a max deal and the Spurs wont give it to him.

Max this season will still be a bargain for him once the cap jumps next year.

I forgot about the other option being he risks it and does a 1 yr deal to get the new max deal next year.
Sher Thing

I can't see any other scenario in which he doesn't get the max this off-season. Like mentioned before, the max he can sign for is significantly lower than what a new max contract will be once the new CBA numbers officially kick in.

Kawhi's cap hold at 7M is significantly lower then what he will sign for though so expect him to be one of the last guys to officially sign. Opposite of Duncan who should be signed/renounced immediately considering his caphold of 15M. Same goes for Manu. Their future will need to be determined before the Spurs can figure anything else out obviously.

Do we have a 1st round pick or did we trade it away? If so, we'll actually get to pick in the middle of the pack for once.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's by regular season record, so even though we were the 6-seed in the west we're still picking somewhere around 24th.

Grizzlies center Marc Gasol will be one of the top free agents on the market this offseason. Gasol's teammates in Memphis are confident that he'll remain with the team, according to USA Today. The one team that Grizzlies players are worried might be able to make a run at Gasol are the Spurs.
