Once again the mavs looked like an offensive juggernaut, but came out pretty flat in the 3rd quarter.

Side note: it was cool to see Marcus Smart get a big cheer from his hometown crowd when he came in for the Celtics. I bet that was a surreal moment for him. He's gonna be a really good player in a year or two.

Mavs need to correct their second half D coming out of the gates. Seems like they just get in the mentality of coasting since they're up by 20. Carlisle will get it fixed, hopefully.

Hornacek is in that top group in my opinion. Even though we only have 1 year to base him off of. I'd probably take him before thibbs if I was starting a team. But top 2 are clearly pop and Carlisle.

A lot of guys have turned in one surprisingly good year and then turned out to only have one gimmick. I want to see Hornacek put together several good years like the other guys.

Carlisle is easily a top 3 coach in the league, proud to have him coaching this mavs team. parsons seems like a great addition, having chandler back is huge, and I wouldn't be shocked to see berea end up having some kind of impact bc of Carlisle. gonna be a fun season.

Carlisle had a play in Barea being great but Dirk is the main reason why. Creates so much space. Dirk is the king of hockey assists.

I agree that we need to see it for a couple of years before we can definitively say he's in the top group. But going by all the advanced metrics, he's amazing. That's the main reason why I think he will continue to be good. And he took a Phoenix group that was projected bottom of the west to 48 wins. So if I had to bet, I'd say he's for real.

Noticed last night we abandoned a lot of our best sets on O and had a ton of empty possessions. Gotta think that will change as the players gel and the season goes on.

Parsons is scaring me a little. He's not a great playmaker with the ball in his hands, but he seems to want to prove he is. With Dirk/Monta, I'd much rather us let them be the primary playmakers and then kick it to Parsons and allow him to shoot or drive after the defense has rotated to help on Dirk/Monta. I still think he's a good player and a good fit for this team, but Parsons just can't really seem to create for himself too much.

That's how the Rockets used him. When he did have to create, it always resulted in a fade away heave from beyond the line.

Anyone watch the Utah game? Did it seem weird when a number of Mavs players went to the locker room with 2.2 seconds left and a dead ball? Nothing big, but when you see Chandler out there waiting to high five his teammates when the buzzer sounded, it just looked odd that some of the veterans (Dirk and Nelson were the ones I saw) were already on the way to the locker room.

Again, nothing major, just caught my eye.

I saw that and thought it was a little weird.

Otherwise, it was a nice butt kicking of Utah on the road. Nice way to respond from the Portland beatdown we got. Vintage Dirk tonight

Why does he need to prove that he's all world? There's a perfectly good, profitable niche to being the 2nd and 3rd wheel for the Mavericks.

He doesn't have to be all world. All Mavs fans will be pleased if he is a solid 2nd/3rd option for this team. But he hasn't been so far, and it's becoming a little troubling. He has played completely awful in 4 out of 7 games.

For the year, he has the 9th best PER on the team, is shooting less than 40% from the field and is shooting 27% from 3. That's why people are complaining. They aren't expecting him to be all world, but I would hope they are expecting better than that.

Obviously it's really early, so it's a small sample size to base him off of. Here's to hoping it gets better.

Haha, gotcha. I agree with that. I'm not sure if it's him or if the coaching staff has told him to try and do stuff that he isn't comfortable with.

ego. the mavs made him the highest paid player on the team and he's trying to justify it. the sad part is that with dirk taking less, the mavs were willing to overpay parsons to do exactly what he did in houston, but he just seems determined to try and prove he can be more.

he'll figure it out and be fine once he does.

Need to get back on track tonight. Dirk is close to moving up the all time scoring list
