Mavs are really letting me down this season.

Good win. Finally glad this road stretch is finished(just played 14 of 19 on the road without any consecutive home games I believe). We may play tougher teams but at least we will be home more often and have some structure without traveling every damn game.

Hopefully will get some news about Rondo soon.

We are better without rondo. The numbers prove this. Sure, we are a little better defensively with rondo, but we aren't better overall bc our offense takes such a hit. Rondo plus the other 4 starters have a net differential of +4. Harris and the other 4 starters have a net differential of +10.

Not sure if I want amar'e, dont know what he really has left or can get his mind right. Same with jermaine, but we gotta get another decent big.

Well, we might have been better initially without rondo, but the idea is to have him figure out how to fit in with the rest of the team by playoffs. So it's to be expected to have some bumps along the way, honestly the fact that its close this early into the trade is encouraging. Personally, I think he needs to add the shawn marion dive cut into his game. That and sometimes he has to take(make) some of the open 3s.

Yes, our offense was great pre-trade, but if Dirk era of mavs ball has taught us anything, the defense we had pre-trade would eventually let us down in the playoffs. Cant rely on outscoring people for 4 series.

Ugh Monta and Tyson both hurt. Neither one of them better be serious. Can't afford to lose either of those guys.

Meanwhile DeAndre had 27 rebounds tonight, 3rd most ever by a Mavs opponent!

Win over Utah, w/ crap nights from Monta and Parsons. I was surprised Monta played. I thought he'd be out. Props to Barea for stepping up. Decent showing by James, too, for his first game.

Larry Sanders? Apparently, it's up to Monta to decide whether they even talk to him.

This team could use someone who a) plays great defense and b) not afraid to get in peoples faces. Of course I'd rather he get up in the grill of his opponents, not his own teammates.

Just like there is a difference between someone who drinks alcohol and an alcoholic, there is a difference between guy who smokes pot and a pothead.

Sanders is definitely a pothead. Right now, basketball seems like it is secondary in his life.

Unsure, I get that he has skills, but I never really liked him as a player. I think he thinks he is better than he actually is. If he can accept a reduced role, it could be good.

Gotta still fit rondo into this team, keep finding a role for parsons, now gotta fit in amar'e.

That said, we needed a decent big, and this was the best out there.

That beats my dream from years ago when I dreamed that Jordan and Pippen came to work with me and had to do my job lol.

I've watched a lot of Mavs games but I'm still not sure what to make of them. They have a 3-13 (?) record versus other Western contenders. Many of them blowouts. But they pretty much roll the teams that they should beat.

I don't want to make too much of the bad record versus other contenders but it has to mean something. Although last year the Mavs were 0-4 against the Spurs and took them to 7 games.

On paper the team looks great. Rondo, Ellis, Parsons, Dirk and Tyson with Amare off the bench. But that team hasn't logged a single game yet not to mention that Rondo has barely played (and didn't look great when he did). Still give huge credit to Cuban and Nelson for putting this team together. Somehow they flipped Calderon, Marion, Dalembert and Wright for Rondo, Parsons, Tyson and Amare in 12 months. The Mavs are at least in the conversation if a few things break there way.

*IF* Rondo can get his mid-range jumper back. It's a misconception that Rondo can't shoot at all. He has always been a poor 3 point shooter but his mid-range shot has been solid in the past. He's got 2 months (and a broken eye socket), good luck.
*IF* Amare can stay healthy and give 20 good minutes a night. That isn't asking for a lot but he hasn't proven he can stay on the court reliably in years.
*IF* there are no other (major) injuries on the team. Every team could say this of course. This team will be annoying as hell in the playoffs if healthy.

I think the Mavs go as Tyson goes, so I think it's huge that Amare should be able to give some solid minutes. There was no risk in signing him, so if he flames out, no big deal.

*Rondo - My hope is that Carlisle can convince him to concentrate on distributing and being a lockdown defender. Take the wide open shots when available, but ALWAYS look for Monta, Tyson, and Dirk first. Have him watch film on J Kidd from 2011.

The biggest problem with the Mavs is still Defense. We can score plenty of points against a team that can't lock you down in any way. But in the playoffs when other quality teams tighten the screws down on defense, you have to be able to do it too. Tyson is great, but he can't do it all. Rondo has to ramp it up on the perimeter, and Amare has to be almost as good as Tyson when he comes out of the game.

I do trust in Carlisle to figure out some mad science to help the Defense without many great defensive players. But it's also up to some of these players. The biggest wildcard might actually be Parsons. I think the Mavs would be best served by him trying to become a better defender at the expense of his usual energy on the offensive side. If he could start to become a better rebounder at least.

Your statement about defense is the exact reason we traded for Rondo, and there are already good returns on that
