Happy to be eating a little crow, given Parson's recent play. Hope this is more a sign of the norm.

Regarding Rondo, phenomenal talent but just not so sure I like him chemistry wise. That said, he's infinitely better than Nelson - just not sure if renting him for four months is worth mortgaging all drafts and Brandon Wright.

Not sure what to think either. Obviously his perimeter D is infinently better than anything we have had in awhile. I think we'd have the locker room/leadership to work with him and he'd be rejuvenated planting with a real team. It would be nice to know we'd have him for more than this year, but I think this summer we might be viewing wright as an expendable piece anyways so if we can get something to make a run this year it might be ok? It's not like mavs use draft picks anyways.

Not sure I want Rondo. I like pairing dirk and monta with shooters. And pairing Ellis with Rondo would be a horrendous 3 point shooting backcourt.

I also hope parsons keeps up this play. Has looked good lately.

Seems like a no brainer. Get him in and let Carlisle figure it out which I trust would happen.

Brandon Wright is good bench player but should not be hold up when talking about a top 5 to 7 point guard.

this is my feeling, the mavs always punt the draft anyway.

i'm not sure about the fit with monta and rondo, but i would trust carlisle to make it work. the perimeter D and rebounding would be greatly improved.

Monta should at least be mentioned at the end of the MVP talk. He's been brilliant. If he's not an all star this year, it's insane.
All-star? Yes. MVP? I'm the biggest Mavs fan anywhere, but no. way. Curry, Davis, Harden, LeBron...

If the Mavs get Rondo, that's when Carlisle really steps up. I'd hate to lose Wright, but Rondo's D and distributing skills would be a great addition. In losing Wright, how would Tyson's minutes be affected? Would Villanueva start playing?

If we lose wright we are shopping for another big man.

would probably be trying to talk jermaine o'neal off his couch in southlake.

Rondo was a top 5 point guard a couple years ago before the injuries. With what Carlisle has been able to do reinvigorating players like Tyson and Vince, I have absolute faith that he would be able to do the same with Rondo.

point has been made that his defensive skills have been declining over the last couple of years....hopefully, that's due to lack of effort and not having garnett behind him.

I dunno, Rondo is a great defensive point guard, and a good creator...but we already have monta, who needs to be on the ball a lot. And parsons seems to be finding his role while also getting on the ball. I don't know if Rondo can be effective off the ball, but Carlisle is the coach that could figure it out.
Would DEFINITELY solve a lot of our defensive problems.

@jordanbrenner on Twitter has posted some good stuff/stats about why Rondo isn't a good fit with the Mavs. Also shows he may not be as good defensively as some think

@haralabob would agree.

I think Rondo would be a great fit. He creates, has a decent enough big man at D behind him so that he can take chances with steals, and he has played in two NBA Finals. He's a triple-double machine, and I think having him in Carlisle's system would be fun to watch, and would improve the Mavs.

But I'm also biased because I have liked Rondo for a long time.

BREAKING: Celtics agree in principle to deal sending Rajon Rondo to Dallas for Wright, Nelson, Crowder & 2 picks. (via @ESPNSteinLine)

Thank you Cuban for keeping him out of Houston

Any word on likelihood Rondo commits to Mavs for a new contract?

Or when his next injury is likely to happen?

I hate this trade because I hate the fit with Ellis. Rondo/Ellis are not a good combination. Having Ellis basically takes away all of Rondo's need/value and vice versa, other than the defensive end. Basically we gave up major bench depth to get a little better on the defensive end and possibly worse on the offensive end (can't really get better since we already have the best offense). We will really miss Wright. And Ellis/Dirk don't need a playmaker to score, so I don't see how Rondo benefits us much. He'd be much more valuable on another team. The one guy I can see him helping is Parsons.

THe over/under on number of televisions I break from watching Rondo clank free throws in crunch time is set at 2.5 for the season.

I hope I eat crow later, but I really don't like the trade. At least it will be interesting I guess.

I think Wright should be playing a lot more, but given the fact that Carlisle refuses to play him and
he's a free agent, I can't hate the deal that much when it comes to the future.
We gave up a 15-20 minute backup center and a 20-24th draft pick for next year.
Crowder may be a 9-10th man type of player (he isn't awful but is nothing
special). Trading Jameer is addition by subtraction.

Doesn't seem like Celtics got much unless they resign Wright? Because as of now they got a a 20-24th pick in next years draft and that's about it.

I don't hate the trade because of what the Mavs gave up (love Wright but he doesn't play enough thanks to Carlisle). I just hate it because I don't think Rondo helps us much at all. But I don't see how any Celtics fans could be thrilled about it unless they know they are resigning Wright.

Theoretically a great starting 5. Lost some bench depth, usually a Mavs strength, but Harris has been helping quite a bit.

Cuban just turned to Carlisle and said, "your move brah".
Iowaggie

Not sure it will work out, but I'm pretty sure what the Mavs had wasn't going to be winning the WC, so I think Rondo helps in that respect.

The other thing is to win the WC, you have to have a guard defend Westbrook, Curry/Thompson, Harden, Parker, CP3, Lillard, and Conley. You have to feel better about having Rondo than Jameer.

Quite frankly, I think Rondo will start playing very good ball within Carlisle's system.

I couldn't disagree more. We already have the #1 scoring offense (and like the 26th defense). A guy like Rajon opens things up even more for the 4 guys around him. And the improvement to our starting 5 defense is significant. Rajon, being a good 1 on 1 defender, makes it easier on Dirk, et al.

He will not open things up on offense. He will do the exact opposite because he cannot shoot. Now his defender can sag off and clog the lane when Monta drives or go to double Dirk without fear of leaving an open shooter.

I agree he should help a little on defense though.

Wright is underrated by most people. He kills PER and every advanced metric out there. I'm looking forward to see if he can keep those type of numbers up when he is starting.

He was given more minutes at least a few times, didnt respond to it in the past. I think he is ideal as a high energy backup like he was for us this year.
