Essentially, Grizz lose Rudy Gay and Haddadi and get Davis, Prince, Day, and a 2nd round pick

Rudy Gay was payed all star money when he was an above average player. He had the potential to be a star it just never materialized.

They saved 26MM over the next 3 years and traded the best player in the deal, by a mile.

Yes, they are saving a ton of money, but for what...to slide into averageness like the Houston Rockets (with Holliger playing the role of Morey)? Or worse, fall like the Sac Kings (with Pera/Levien playing the role of the Maloofs)

This was the best team the Grizzlies had. They had the 5th best record overall, and over the last 2 years, they had played the 3 teams above them to 7 game series, but never with a healthy ZBo and Rudy together.

Teams don't get better by giving up the best player in the trade.

I'm sure GSW are happy about the deal.

Wasn't it though? They have one of the worst offenses in the league and traded their best scorer, getting no scorers in return.

He wasn't worth what he was being paid. If his salary was 8-10 million yes it was a mistake. I am in wait and see mode before I declare it a bad trade.

Ugly game last night, particularly for Z-bo. Grizz did fight back but could never threaten.

Regarding the trade, I'm in kind of the same boat Trevas is in. Wait and see. I was hoping after the Ellington/Speights trade that we had commitment to keeping the core together for a possible run this year. Objectively I can see why they made the deal but it does take away a big scoring threat from a team who is offensively challenged to begin with.

The big question for me is can Randolph and Gasol and Conley absorb the offense from Rudy's absence? Can Randolph play like he did 2 years ago when Rudy was out? Randolph just came off his worst month scoring wise I think since he's been in the league capping it with a bad perfomance last night. Hopefully that is not a trend because for the Grizz to make any kind of noise the rest of the year, they are going to have to get better production from Z-bo, Gasol, and Conley; while guys like Bayless, Arthur, Prince, Davis are all going to have to provide scoring.

I don't think the debate is about whether Rudy was worth what he was getting paid, that is a hard argument to make*.

The question is whether or not they are better without Rudy and/or if this new roster has an increased chance to get to the WCF or beyond. I'd say no to both.

Improved flexibility is nice, but it means crap if they can't get to the top. While they were longshots this year, they were at least in the discussion. I'm hopeful they will fit better, but I'm also ready to give up on the season.

Also, there is a rumor that Rudy wanted out. He wasn't Pau Gasol vocal about it, but I could buy it.

If he wanted out, the trade makes a lot more sense.

Glad I decided not to drive 3 hours to OKC last night to go see the game with a friend. Would have been a total disaster. The last two times I tried but couldn't go to Memphis-OKC Memphis won both.

Lowest scoring offensive team in the league shoots 60% and goes for 30 in the first quarter. Grizzlies turning the ball over (Wroten and Allen on the floor at the same time is a recipe for disaster as neither can shoot and are both wild as hell)

Ugly game so far. Neither team shooting well now and a lot of turnovers.

Grizz win . Prince with a really nice debut with 14 points off the bench. Conley and Gasol with nice games.

Randolph another clunker with 7 points. Back to back single digit efforts. With Gay gone, Randolph is going to have to step up with more scoring to beat the better teams in the league.
