So, lets all agree to just skip any prepyag posts as if they weren't even there?

You should be focusing on how bad the mavs are about to become instead of me, but you all spent 7 pages trying to figure out who my team...instead, skip my posts and TRY to convince yourselves that the mavs will still be relevant this time next year...it'll take alot of effort, but I'm sure you can do it.

prepyag is like a bad combination of Simplebay and Muy, except his *only* agenda appears to be hating on Dallas. Which is both odd and sad.

Tell us more about why the Mavs aren't a relevant franchise the past decade and how much you hate Dallas people

So, assuming we get Deron Williams, any speculation on what other moves we will make?

I'm hoping that even with Williams there will be a way to get Terry back. It also sounds like Kidd wants to be the backup PG where ever Williams lands. So I think there is aplace for both those guys.

I don't know what other moves are an option. We'll probably have to spend to the cap just to get DWill.

Haywood gets amnestied. Odom gets traded or cut. Those are pretty obvious. That would leave:

Edit: Friend just sent me this link. It explains the cap situation 10x better than I ever could.

Pretty glaring needs at SG and C (would have liked to keep Azuibuke). As the numbers approach the cap, you can see how important it is to get that Odom trade done. That ~2mm could make a huge difference. As long as Mahinmi doesn't get too expensive in FA I think we resign him. There's always the possibility that a trade happens involving draftees + Roddy/Wright but it would have to be a pretty good trade for Cubes to pull the trigger.

Random FAs:
CJ Miles (read he wants to play in Dallas)
Aaron Gray (UFA, backup C)
Landry Fields (Knicks 2.6mm qualifying offer)
Chris Kaman (meh)
OJ Mayo (Memphis not extending qualifying offer)
Nick Young
Hibbert (RFA, Pacers will most likely match, $$$$$)
Jevale McGee (stupid, Nugs 3.5 mm qualifying offer)
Omer Asik (Bulls 2.3 mm qualifying offer, good defender)
Delonte West
JET
Stevie Nash

Of all those guys, Omer Asik is probably option 1. Aaron Gray + Mahinmi would be below average but serviceable I guess.
I'd like to retain Delonte West. JET is gone. Landry Fields wouldn't be a bad target either if the Knicks throw money at Lin.

Nash + OJ Mayo is intriguing if Deron stays with BKN. Would still need a center.

I said for the next decade, not the past decade...and I said Mav fans, no Dallas people. You guys are really reaching now.

Clock is ticking on the Lamar decision.

As mentioned above about 4 times, Lamar is owed $8.2 million this season, and right now only $2.4 million of that is guaranteed. The full guarantee kicks in if he’s not waived today.

Great news. With Odom's deadline extended to tomorrow, the deal should be finalized in time.

from ESPN report by Stein re: Nash:

Looks like Kidd and Williams playing golf in the hamptons this weekend. Not looking good for Dallas.

so you're saying there's a chance:

quote:
Deron Williams, the most coveted player in this summer's free-agent class, will meet with representatives from the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks on Monday before deciding which team to sign with this July, according to a source privy to Williams' plan.

Mavericks free-agent point guard Jason Kidd will also join whichever team Williams chooses, sources said.

Williams is spending the weekend playing golf with Kidd in New York's Hamptons, sources say, yet one more indicator that the Nets have at least a fighting chance to keep Williams and add Kidd sometime after free agency begins Sunday.

Kidd, who has indicated that he hopes to serve as a backup to Williams either in Brooklyn or Dallas, also recently purchased a home in East Hampton, a source close to Kidd said.

Another source with business ties to both Kidd and Williams says that the two already have decided to play together for the Nets next season. However, multiple sources say Williams is still torn about his decision.

Williams has said he wants to make the decision before training camp for the U.S. men's Olympic team begins in Las Vegas on July 7.

anybody know the amount of the trade exception received in the Odom deal?
Goldie Wilson

If/when D-Will signs with NJ, I wouldn't mind taking a look at Lowery and one of Houston's 20 PFs.

Unrestricted FAs I think might be worth looking at:
OJ Mayo
Brandon Bass
Ryan Hollins
Carl Landry
Spencer Hawes
CJ Miles
Landry Fields

Others:
Eric Gordon [restricted FA]
Josh Smith [Atlanta claims they aren't listening to trade offers, but I doubt that lasts too long]
Blatche [if Washington amnesties]

Short term / vet minimum:
Deshawn
Kenyon Martin

Why does Kidd and Williams playing golf together make people nervous? It's 110 degrees in Metroplex. I wouldn't spend June here if I made $10 million dollars last.

Williams is interviewing with Mavericks as well. I'd guess 2:1 odds that Mavericks land him.

Birdman - now its being reported that Dwight Howard has asked to be traded to the Nets and its the only team he will go to.

While we have seen this before from him, its interesting how he played this.

Looks like Mavs shot to get DWill is done. If Dwight gets traded and now with the talks of an agreement with Gerald Wallace it looks clear.
Goldie Wilson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nets resigned Wallace at 4/$40m, and are looking at acquiring Joe Johnson or OJ Mayo. Couple this with the Dwight Howard rumors, and I have no idea what they hell they're doing, other than assembling a collection of ill-fitting pieces.

I'm not sure if my previous post is good news or bad news re: Mavs signing D-Will.
Judge
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well there's no way in hell they could afford to have D-Will, Joe Johnson/OJ Mayo, Gerald Wallace, and D12 all on the roster unless they want to play every game 4 on 5.
Goldie Wilson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
just looked up Joe Johnson's remaining contract. I'm flabbergasted as to why anybody would even consider trading for that. And then I remember the team who is trying to acquire him is the same one that just gave Gerald Wallace $40m.

Yeah, for some reason the Hawks decided to give a 29 year old who disappears in the playoffs a max contract.
Goldie Wilson

well from the Hawks perspective, they probably figured the playoff disappearances wouldnt ever really be an issue

If I'm the Magic then Brooklyn is the last place I would trade Howard. Why give in to what he wants. The Magic will do what's in their best interest.

Joe Johnson would be a fantastic third option. To be fair, his team was never really favored for anything. In 2008, they took the Hawks to 7 games against Boston and a lot of people thought they had the upset in them.

Acie Law hit 75% of his FGs and 90% of his FTs in that series.

Good god is Finley STILL under contract with the Mavs?
quote:
Yet with Nowitzki traveling abroad this week and Cuban in Los Angeles working on his "Shark Tank" television show, sources say that Dallas will be represented in Monday's sitdown with Williams by president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson, coach Rick Carlisle and former Mavericks franchise player Michael Finley, who is making the trip in an unofficial ambassadorial role.

I don't get how we went from almost a lock to get deron, and now these "sources" at "espn" are saying he is locked into the nets. IMO, he would be a fool to stay there, and they will never win anything.
corleoneAg99
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If the Nets were a lock to get Deron, Billy King wouldn't have been on the phone with every FA on the market today.

There's no need for plans B through F if you know plan A is a go.

It's still 50/50, despite how badly Broussard and ESPN want to make it sound like Deron back to the Nets is a done deal.
