I think he wanted to show Bruno loyalty, but Bruno was poor again today. Lost possession a lot. Not saying it was entirely his fault, but he's not on form at the moment.

Keeping Ten Hag was a mistake

Eriksen giveth and he taketh away. That goal was 90+% on him. Can't dawdle like that with your back to goal and the opponents flooding your midfield.

Poor game. Poor result. Team has no idea what to do when they get into the final third and everything is off and/or misplaced.

I do not like Tuchel. Never have. But he would be getting results out of this squad and not allowing the kind of in game drop offs that have become a hallmark of the EtH tenure.

We would be great for half a season and then players would all grow to hate him and we would be back to square one. I want a long term solution, not a band-aid.

i think he would better for longer. but, yes eventually all of the players would hate him and we would move on. sadly, the economic realities of top level football are such that we cannot afford to miss champions league again. so having a bandaid is better than where we are now.

Yeah Tuchel was getting so much out of Mazroui and de Ligt that they were jumping ship from Bayern. I'm not super high on ten Hag right now, but I don't think Tuchel is the answer.

Edit: And let's also remember that Bayern never loses the Bundesliga, but they did last year. Tuchel's last actually impressive year is actually probably as far back as ten Hag's. I'm not a Tuchel fan. His last year was better than ten Hag's for sure, but Bayern is also actually better than we are. Kompany looks like a genius with them at the moment, and he got relegated, so there you go.

The defensive third has improved a lot. Onana is facing a lot less shots and have seen a lot fewer mistakes in the back. Even the poor performances haven't really been down to bad defense. Liverpool was much more about a bad midfield than a bad defense. Guess that's to be expected when 4 of your summer signings are defenders/def mids (P.S.: big Mazraoui fan. Has maybe become my favorite summer signing especially given how inexpensive he was)

Middle third has been marginally better I guess. Last half of 23/24 they seemed to get consistently overrun against average at best opponents and every game turned into chaos ball. Liverpool dominated the middle third and made our midfielders look silly, last part of the Brighton game turned into chaos ball (after Mount left). But there have been more and longer spells of control and passing at times. Still not a good midfield but it's an improvement over the end of last season.

Final third has been about the same I guess. Zirkzee has been a very nice add in my opinion and the connection between the middle and final third is so much better when he starts. But he's not going to score a ton of goals which means wingers have to fill that gap. But if you take out the Barnsley game, I'd say the wingers have regressed thus far. Garnacho hasn't looked right. Amad seems slow in his decision making. He can beat players easily with speed and dribbling but then hesitates too long when there is time and space to create a key chance or shoot.

We won't see a lot of tangible improvement in the results until all 3 make significant steps. Right now, I would say only 1 of the 3 have. Whether by accident or design, it makes sense to get the defense right first but ETHs job will come down to whether he gets both sold defending and goals or not and there's still a lot of work to be done to achieve that.

It doesn't help that Bruno is a bit of a disaster right now.

I mentioned it in the general thread. Varane just retired at 31 after getting injured again.

It's not out of the realm of possibility that Bruno is run down.

He's also a very emotional player. When things are not going well, he can capitulate a bit.

In fairness, Varane has been injured a lot, and that caused the problem.

Now Luke Shaw… that could end up being Varane. Even though he is younger.

Edit: BTW, Luke Shaw is a bit older than I thought… he's 29. So a bit younger, but….

Just about everyone in the top 4/5 race won today. Exceptions were Newcastle drew City, which you'd probably prefer Newcastle lost from a pure top 4 race standpoint, and Brighton lost but it was to Chelsea which is probably the bigger threat. Villa plays Ipswitch tomorrow morning.

It won't be easy because they need the points as much as us, but we really need to beat Spurs tomorrow. A draw does neither of us much good. Hope we get it done.

I watched a couple of the matches. We don't look like we are even in the same race as the top 5/6 teams.

I watched Newcastle v. City. Newcastle played well, but they hadn't been playing that well going in (but have been getting results).

Then I watched Chelsea v. Brighton. Cole Palmer… what a show. If anyone has 45 mins of free time, watch the first half. (Then turn it off, after that, the second half is pretty boring after the first half in comparison.)
