I 100% agree with that. I guess what I'm saying is that I believe the chances of EPL teams actually trying to sign CP is much higher than EPL teams signing Pepi. These teams are constantly scouting players so you're right about that.
For sure.

This is why I chose the USMNT over the Cowboys game.

funny how most of the networks are cutting the pulisic clip short now and not showing the trump dance part. This country is so messed up.

Most of us here know this, but i enjoyed reading it.

Tessman is the perfect example of how leaving the MLS to go to Europe can grow your career.

No it's just the libs running sports broadcasting industry. Pulisic did the Trump dance because he saw several NFL players doing it and thought it's fun and not necessarily reflecting his political affiliation.

It's not not reflecting though. If he was a trump=hitler guy, he's clearly not doing that dance.

Anyways, I'll stop there before some lib goes reeee and says take it to F16!

Was out of the house and missed this one, but the goal highlights are delicious.

Also - this is an interesting stat that bodes well. We should be able to pass the ball around and also find openings to shoot… it was crazy how many times under Ggg we'd have great buildup play through the middle only to have it die in the final third.

I came here now to post this.

Crazy that we were able to finish and get a shot off rather than just hope for a shot off a cross or lose possession in the final third.

Asked what he attributed the fast start to, Weah didn't hesitate. "Honestly, it's the coach," he said. "We kind of just listened to what his instructions were in training, and we applied it to the field. "He gives us the freedom to play,"

And the tactics he used yesterday may not be the ones he uses on another opponent.

I personally am expecting 1-3 players that aren't currently in the Senior side picture to progress into the 18 man roster, if not some of them even forcing their way into starting lineups.
Theres too much talent still coming through the pipelines, and its not like we have an all world starting lineup.

Its going to be on Poch to find the right mix of players that can execute the strategy/philosophy he wants. Its not necessarily the best 11 players.
I personally would never beleive in Gregg getting that right, but have hope Poch will so far.

This is what I've been saying for a full year about Tessmann being a better fit in midfield than what we've been rolling out there. Maybe he wasn't ready for WC Qatar, but he literally had Christian Roldan on the roster with no intentions to play him.

Don't be surprised if Poch experiments with Tessmann at CB when Tyler Adams comes back healthy into the USMNT. I don't agree with it but this move could happen.

Wouldn't be surprised to have Tessmann play against certain types of opponents instead of Adams

I have a feeling Poch will find a way to have the best 11 on the pitch at the same time.

I can't wait for Adams to return.

I've been critical of his lack of offense (and yes, I'm comparing to other 6's when I make those complaints), but now that early returns say that Poch's got our offense cooking - we don't need Adams to contribute to the offense beyond what he's already good at (distributing to playmakers).

We do desperately need him to do what he's world class at doing - providing coverage for our leaky back line. Especially when Poch has our FB's running wild.

It's fun to imagine what this team could look like with a few more months under Poch and some key guys returning.

No celebration. Jurgen did very good work trying to promote and build up youth soccer in this country. He might not have been a great national team coach but to celebrate the guy who helped lay the groundwork for the talent we are enjoying now is pretty short-sighted.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

We are but it would be her last year and would have to join a new team. Most of her classmates stay on the same team.

I'm not so sure JK actually did anything for youth development that wouldn't have happened on its own… except hold up a mirror to MLS and USSF and reveal its shortcomings.

I think he was 100% right about the mentality of players choosing the easy path and picking MLS when they were good enough for Europe.

"If you play in an environment, where if you lose Rangers against Celtic, you don't want to go to the baker the next morning. If you lose that game in Salt Lake City, it's different. I don't think somebody will bother you about that. They'll say, 'Oh, you lost last night, but no problem.' In Glasgow, nobody will say, 'Oh, it's no problem.' They will give you crap for five days. You don't want to go outside anymore."

Players and USSF needed to hear that message. To me that's his only real and lasting accomplishment. That and being the first example of USSF hiring a top coach from abroad, which hopefully will pay dividends now the second time around with Poch.

All that said, I think he's a dirtbag not for what happened here but for what he did at Hertha Berlin. I certainly enjoyed watching him flop at Korea and if he works again, I'll root for him to flop there too.

Agree 100% about Europe for our players, but changing to age pure for the .001% of players was silly and he was the driving force behind it.

I think there was merit in Jurgen's revamping of the US Soccer Development Academy. Adding structure in how clubs across the country develop their top players provided some uniformity for how US Soccer could scout and identify talent for USYNT camps and probably helped the player pool come in with familiarity in how US Soccer wanted to execute everything from training, to health & fitness, to tactics on the pitch. There are also probably some valid criticisms and shortcomings of attempting to provide a uniform nation-wide framework and approach to youth development as well.

I still am not convinced that getting rid of the DA and just relying on MLS academies for youth development in American soccer is the best approach. Some pros and cons to this too.

I wonder if there are any studies, benchmarking, or other analysis looking at whether the popularity of the sport, for boys anyway, has risen or fallen since USSF got rid of the DA of if boys are leaving the sport even earlier than they were 5 years ago. We might not notice a huge drop in talent and depth in the player pools just yet, but if we do in the next couple of years, it will be too late.
Pahdz

Exactly...that was a move that affected such a ridiculously small populace of American players it was unnecessary.

I'm not sure about everything, but what I do know is the kids on the MLS acadamies, yes, they still call them that, are playing at a higher level earlier. More and more kids are signing professionally 16-18 years of age and that will allow them to play fulltime.

College soccer used to be the next step, but it's being phased out allowing kids to play either USL, MLX Next, or even MLS earlier.

Heck, look at the ladies side. Title 9 was the reason why our women were so far ahead and then a reason why they were behind. But, they're makes strides for players like our Aggie legacy Kennedy Fuller to play professionally in what should be her junior and senior year.

Yeah, there are very few college scholarships for men's soccer. For American youth to stay in boys soccer, they just have to do it for the love of the game or because they're on a professional track. College is not the route and it's a disadvantage for development anyway compared to youth in other countries.

If you make it on the MLS Next team for your club, can you make it to an MLS academy, and if you do, can you ever make the first team as a pro and get a contract?

There are more pro track opportunities for youth in Europe because there are lot more professional leagues in close approximation and there are more professional tiers in each country.

With so few real pro-track opportunities, and not many college scholarship opportunities, and now with the absence of USA involvement in development, I feel like the popularity of the sport is suffering and in decline since we got rid of the DA and it will show in the depth in our national team player pools soon, but I have no real evidence of it yet.

It seemed to me that Jurgen's DA revamp was going to foster more interest, pride, and popularity to stay in the sport for boys. MLS teams have conflicting priorities. They have foreign designated players on their first teams and don't care if their youth academy home grown players are American. For example, many of Houston Dynamo's MLS Next+ players would probably play for Mexico if they could.
