Probably a good move for Steffin, and I agree the best way for him to improve his decision-making is to actually play games.
That said, I thought Turner's comments on training methods were interesting too… if you're a GK that's already strong on the mental side of the game, I think training against elite athletes, at elite facilities, from elite coaches and occasionally getting some games may actually be better than playing regularly in a lower league. Turner certainly seemed to think that would be the case.
For any outfield position, match fitness is a huge concern… but for keepers it's really not about match fitness, but match mentality. I don't think Turner is going to lose his edge there just cause he's not playing regularly. He has ice in his veins… perhaps literally after Minnesota
My big concern is that the playing time bias + ggg's preexisting Steffin bias makes it a foregone conclusion that Steffin will be our starting keeper, when it may very well be that Turner improves his game in the fall but ggg won't notice or care because he's not starting.
