You knew it was a dream because you know Berhalter would have had Jordan Morris in the game while Mo Salah watched from the bench.

I had a dream the other night that the US scored 6 goals in about 35 minutes in the first half against Costa Rica. They were just pounding away at the goal and probably had an additional 10 shots on frame at the CR goalie was actually doing a great job at keeping some of them out. I was going crazy and the most excited I've been about US Soccer in a long time.

Towards the end of the barrage MO Salah put a couple in and I was confused for a bit and then sad when I realized it was a dream.

Hope he can get consistent minutes!

Do they play 5 in the back? I looked at the minutes for defenders and there were 5 that got consistent minutes throughout the year.

They play a 3-4-3. But pretty sure that they have the outside mids playing as wing backs that get up and down the pitch. And the back 3 being all center backs. Antonee will have to battle Enda Stevens, who is the current starting left wing back, for minutes

Got it, that make sense. Good luck to Robinson!

Antonee Robinson ends up going to Fulham. Not sure what happened with Sheffield United but he officially signed with Fulham earlier today making him the 11th US international to sign with the club.

McKennie is on loan to Juventus with option to by at the end of the deal.

England with multiple premier league starters on the bench tells me we have a lo way to go. But were getting there.

And several Champions league starters.

England has always had players from their bench that play in their home league

A. Their home league is the best in the world.
B. It's not just home league, it's teams that do well in Champions league.
C. We're improving but, having 1 or 2 starters in those leagues, we quite aren't there yet.

... and he's playing as the middle CB in their back 3.

Editing to add a game report:

Very interesting to see how he played there, albeit against 2nd tier bottom feeders. He had a ton of freedom. Most of the time he was the deepest CB, but at least 25% of the time, he moved up and looked more like his natural DM role. Maybe that was by design, or maybe he just slid in there based on what he's accustomed to, but either way it looked good. He played extremely well in this role, but to be fair, he wasn't really challenged due to it being against Nuernberg. The commentators rightly noted that was an experiment that wouldn't have happened in Bundesliga play but it's good that Adams is an option for them there.

His versatility is a huge asset from a club perspective, but I'm not sure it bodes well for the USMNT.

He wasn't a CB. He was playing the 6 and would drop back between the two centerbacks at times to pick the ball up in possession.

No, he was a CB today. I watch more Leipzig than anyone here, and I can say with certainty that he was their center CB in a 3 man back today.

When he plays the 6, he does tend to drop back, especially to cover when Upamecano moves forward, but that's not what happened today.

I don't know many centerbacks that spend parts of the game with the other central midfielders. agree to disagree

Man. He nearly scored there.

It's hard to believe we have 4 players starting for Champions League clubs this weekend.

ETA: didn't realize Pulisic was out this week, but he's basically a given when healthy so the point remains. Exciting times.

As soon as I saw this I quickly tried to spin up a text to my Juve buddy. Right before I hit send on "Third String?" I got a text from him letting me know he was in the starting lineup and the game was about to start.

How'd he play?

Twitter rumors (I know, I know) that Bayern just got Sergio Dest from Ajax.
akm91
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not sure that's a great move for Dest. He more than likely will get more minutes staying at Ajax. That is what he really needs right now. He'll be fighting Pavard for minutes at RB and likely Davies' backup at LB at best.

Man it would suck to get minutes for the best team in the world.

My understanding is they want to move Pavard to CB and use Kimmich as a midfielder. Bigger casualty is pt for Richards.
akm91
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ok that makes more sense for Dest. Hope Richards would then go out on loan to get 1st team minutes somewhere instead of playing with the reserves again.

October friendlies are canceled due to COVID-19. Hopefully they'll be able to have friendlies in November. This delays the 1st USMNT cap for Gio Reyna another month.
