So exciting. MLS players know they're the best in the world because they live in the best country in the world!

It's not like Berhalter can get Euro based players I to the camp. Clubs do not have to release players since it's not a FIFA International window.

I get that we'd rather see the Euro players, but there are going to be MLS guys on tournament squads (especially young players for the Olympics) so they need to be looked at.

Fixed your schedule:

Olympic Q March
Nations League June
Gold Cup July
Olympics July-Aug
WCQ Sept

The December game would be instead of our normal January Camp which typically features MLS only players.

So June would be the earliest Musah can be cap tied

If does the Olympic qualifiers in March he'd be cap tied, but it's doubtful his club releases him for that.

Isn't there an international break in March?

Yes, but last year it was group play + semis and a final, so it's longer than the week FIFA gives.

Think about it this way, a lot of the MLS players will be the young kids coming through the academies that DONT have european passports. Ideally players that will be moving to Europe in the next 1-2 years.

Especially not likely to release them to travel the US given covid restrictions.

The reasons it will be MLS make perfect sense.

I'm not sure what the rationale for having it in the first place is, though. Evaluation/preparation for an Olympic team makes sense. I suppose even simply a USSF money grab makes sense given how many games were lost this year.

But what I fear is that these domestic-only camps will get used as rationale to call up more MLS guys because they'll have more time training/playing in this system. Hope I'm wrong.

We're basically going to have to field two full rosters of players for the tournaments the NT will participate in this year. Additionally, these are pretty young players for the most part. As much as we'd like to be able to say that our best 22 players will come from the kids currently training in Europe, we really don't know what they'll all look like 4 years from now. Injuries, guys hitting an early peak or late rise in development are all pretty commonplace in athletics. One of the biggest marks against the US program over the past several cycles is how missing out on youth tournaments such as the Olympics set our squad development and evaluation back considerably and left us unprepared for WCQ and the older competitions. There's really no downside to giving coaches a wider talent pool to evaluate and call-up from.

I know. It was a joke.

I honestly think if players do the trajectory like Adams and Aaronson, the MLS is a great place.

Great points. I'm all for widening the pool of players.

I just don't trust that the best ones will get called up when it counts.

I don't trust that at all. MLS will get their quota.

And I don't think many people know this, but MLS owners are all a part of an organization that funds the national team. So if you ever wonder why MLS always seems to get their quota on the national team, and why US soccer and MLS are so attached, this is why.

I'm fine with some of the MLS guys getting a shot, and we'll most likely see players like Bradley and Jozy in qualifying for leadership and helping to settle the team in general. You've also got guys like Ledezma, Cannon, Adams, Steffen, etc., who were all MLS players not that long ago.

There's a fair amount of MLS players that I'm actually really intrigued to see play more at that next level. Most have already gotten at least a call up or two, but players like Morris, Pomykal, Robinson, Lleget, Arriola, etc., are all capable of playing at an international level as at least role players and will probably feature in qualifying.

Looking forward to a 23 player World Cup roster, I'd expect a starting 11 of mostly European players with one or two MLSers mixed in, then probably a mix of Euro and MLS players for the last dozen spots. There's also no telling where some of those MLS players may be a few seasons from now.

Its pretty well known that they are heavily involved. I think its silly to suggest their is a quota.

Until MLS align their calendar to the rest of the soccer world, there will always be some type of MLS-centric training camp of some sort. The good news is MLS is becoming a viable platform for young players to spring board to Europe.

I understand your sentiment about "quota" but that was in the past; especially for the starting lineup. We've never had significant number of young players getting consistent minutes if not starting at Champions League caliber teams.

Thinking about the best starting 11 when all are healthy, at least 5 of the 11 play in MLS or used their time in MLS to get to Europe (Cannon, Steffen, Miyazga or Long, Adams, Morris, Jozy-if starting).

The other not talked about factor is maintaining good relationships between US Soccer and European clubs as well so there are times when there is give and take in regards to who will be called in due to the travel time and etc. Probably the best example are when Euro based players only play one match out of the two during a FIFA window in order to get them back to their clubs in time to recover and be ready for their league games. In that case you need MLS based players to provide depth and cover as starters for those instances.

Sargent put in another great effort today with Werder Bremen drawing Bayern Munchen.

Assist and probably could've had 2 goals if not for great goal keeping.
deadbq03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They're looking a lot better than last year.

Also, it looks like they're finally settling into a formation that uses Sargent as a 9. They played him all over in their first handful of games.

Maybe they'll prove to be a good location for him to develop after all?

Sorry, yes unless he was planning a position change.

Was more interested in his ability or the need for Bremen to need to move him before he's an UFA.

Tessman, Reynolds, and Ferriera were set to be called up to the December camp for the UMSNT. With their win in the first round, they will now play on Dec 1 or 2nd. Would love for those guys to get an appearance with the national team, but it's possible they will miss out.

Sergino Dest scored his first Barca goal yesterday in their UCL match.

Saw a crazy graphic that showed American players have cumulatively scored 18 UCL goals with Pulisic leading the way with 4.

He came damn close to a 2nd goal with an assist from Konrad Del Fuenta.

My buddy made a comment about them laughing at us. I said the Brits completely overrate their team al day every day.

I said we know they won the WC in 66. But when's the last time they won the Euro? Looked it up this morning. Never. That's the answer. They haven't even been to the finals.
