The opening day of softball season for No. 11 Texas A&M brought dominance back to the diamond.
The Maroon & White won both games of Thursday’s doubleheader at Davis Diamond, leading to an undefeated start to the Aggie Classic.
A&M showed off its offensive prowess and cohesive pitching in an 8-0 run-rule win in the first game of the doubleheader against Abilene Christian, and in the nightcap, the Aggies continued as such in a 9-1 rout of Utah State.
As a result, the Maroon & White is off to a 2-0 start.
To begin the day, power hitter Mya Perez hit an RBI single to right field in the first inning for the Aggies’ first run of the season. Perez later hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth on the first pitch of her at-bat.
Across the two games, Perez was 4-for-6 with four runs driven in and a pair of round-trippers.
New additions to the Aggie roster also made their statements at Davis on night one.
Georgia transfer Paislie Allen hit a home run in her first at-bat in Maroon & White in the second inning vs. ACU, pushing the score to 2-0.
Oklahoma State transfer Micaela Wark launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, extending the lead to 4-0. Tallen Edwards, also transferring from Oklahoma State, hit an RBI double and stole home on a risky play in the fifth, punching in a 5-0 lead for the Aggies.
After the Perez homer, shortstop KK Dement finished off the Wildcats with an RBI double to center to score Hailey Golden and end the game 8-0 in six innings.
In the circle, Sydney Lessentine pitched five innings, recording seven strikeouts and allowing one hit. Missouri transfer Taylor Pannell made her first appearance as an Aggie in the sixth, striking out two and allowing only one hit.
“I feel like we have a team of unselfish players,” head coach Trisha Ford said. “It’s refreshing as a coach to see a player or listen and talk to a player that is just like…put me out there.”
In game two, A&M faced Utah State, both teams entering the game at 1-0.
Spoiler: the Aggies won.
After missing the entirety of the 2025 season, Ariel Kowalewski notched her first RBI as an Aggie in the first inning vs. Utah State. Perez came to the plate immediately after and crushed a two-run home run on the first pitch she saw to post a score of 3-0 in the bottom of the first.
Utah State stayed in the fight in the second, as third baseman Alex Bunton hit a line drive to left field for an RBI double. Left fielder Kenzee Olsen then hit what appeared to be an RBI single to center, but it was called back after a successful A&M challenge on a runner leaving early.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dement put the game away for the Maroon & White with a grand slam to push the score to 9-1, which would be the final after five innings.
In the circle, Sidne Peters recorded 10 strikeouts, allowing one run on two hits across five frames.
“I love this group so much,” Peters said. “They just make it so much fun to be out there. I felt comfortable tonight, and that’s because of them.”
A&M will face Providence in the next game of the Aggie Classic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.
