https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-u17/story/3930717/fc-dallas-youngster-chooses-us-over-mexico

Our youth squads are trending the right way the past 4 years or so. Nice to see a youth player choose us, we had lost a couple to Mexico the past couple years.

He better be our top striker moving forward. If we continue to march Zardes and others out ahead of him there will be serious questions.

The first touch, and the improvisation to take his next touch over the keeper, obviously stand out. But the run he makes to get into that spot, is something does time and time again. He just understands the game, he doesn't just rely on his athleticism.

I've seen people online saying it was an awful first touch. An awful first touch doesn't leave you the ability to still make a play, that's asinine. It wasn't some miraculous first touch, but it was good.

If it was a one time thing you could say it was a lucky first touch. But he's repeatedly showing this insane nose for goal that we haven't seen from an American striker in quite a while. (Ever?)

I've always understood that you want your first touch to do one of three things: (1) set up a shot on the following touch; (2) set up a pass on the following touch; or (3) maintain control and set up subsequent touches that can be productive and lead to a shot, pass, or attack.

Looks to me like his first touch did a good job meeting objective 3 in using his first touch to maintain control...

Did I see Sargents goal right?

4 touches into the back of the net without it touching the ground?

If you have 14 minutes to spare....

No love lost between FC Dallas and Dynamo... even at the u15 level.

I watch all the highlights as I know the family of 32. He's 14 and barely 5'5". His dad is 6'3"ish and mom 5'8ish. Not that height matters that much but it just shows where he is physically developmental.

51 has amazing for FC Dallas and I forgot his number but Tarik is an amazing striker.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these 3 get signed in the next 2 years.

It's too bad none of these guys will get to play. We'll just roll out some bad MLS players instead.

Well this thread looks like it might get a lot of action over the next two years based on tonight's performance.

Horrible performances all around tonight v Mexico. It was nice to see some young guys like Dest and Sargent get some minutes, though.

Yeah Dest at left back and Sargent on the bench.

Dest had some mistakes but they all did. He had some good moments too. He can be a fine LB for us in the future even if he's more comfortable at RB. I feel bad for sargent's miss on the pk. I hope we'll start seeing more Sargent and less zardes going forward.

It was a good kick. In a real match it would've been overturned on VAR c

So cool that Joshua is playing with the other Americans at Jong Ajax. He's been over in Europe long before the others, playing in the Real Madrid Academy before moving to Ajax.

He's a really good kid besides a really good soccer player.

What's his story? How was he playing in Europe so young? Somehow via his India connection?

He grew up in Los Altos Hills and had tryouts with Barcelona and Real Madrid academies. When he was accepted to Real Madrid at age 11, his family moved overseas in order for him to attend the academy. My kids went to catholic school with him and his brother before they moved overseas.

Joshua moving to Spain
