Dug up some old e-mails to remind myself of how I got tickets...
First I tried to get them directly from Man United. Register to be a member (if you haven't already) and you can apply for single game tickets through them 3 weeks before the game (don't quote me on the 3 weeks time frame but it's something like that). They always have tickets available but they often have a lot more requests than tickets so it goes to a lottery.
I wasn't able to get tickets that way. But I was able to get them through one of the United supporter's clubs. United's website links to the various supporter's clubs that exist throughout the country. I had initially contacted them to try and get on one of their buses to get to Manchester from Durham but when they responded to me, they also mentioned they could get me a ticket. Long story short, there are always season ticket holders who can't attend games and best way to find them is through those supporter's groups. That's why I was able to get an amazing ticket for a lot less than most people.
