FSU brain-trust should have OU & TU on the phone to help navigate the approaching minefield.
Those mates will clearly show them how to get this done.

This is going to be fun and nasty.

Neither the SEC or B1G really wants FSU, but neither wants the other to have them.

Thoughts that B1G has an open pocketbook are asinine-they've already been stretched to the max.

UNC is the real prize here. What's going to be fun to watch is how quickly schools get in the boat.

(They're going to be quiet, and let FSU do the dirty work acting like petulant children).

Even beyond Jimbo, FSU is sooooooo our spirit animal in so many ways…

Not much to it. The Big 12 exit penalties were nowhere as painful as the ACC's. And then OUT was able to negotiate a lesser amount on top of that with payments being withheld against league distributions, so OU who had considerably less cash flow didn't have to cut checks up front which they would have found challenging.

FSU and Clemson are bound a lot tighter by the ACC contract.

I wouldn't say the B10 budget is stretched to the max. A better way to put it is that teams like Indiana and Purdue are not going to take one penny less of their media rights to add FSU, and who can blame them.

The ironic part is that these teams barely have football teams where all the money comes from.

Are FSU and Clemson willing to take half shares in the B1G for around 6 years like Washington and Oregon did?

I more meant that there is a prevailing thought that Fox is just gonna kick in another $70M every time a new team pops up.

That saturation point has been reached.

FSU's not going to take a huge discount the way the latest hooping schools have.

And the B1G can't get them there without lowering payouts to current schools (which as you mention, ain't gonna happen).

why you see UNC as the prize? They aren't really a big TV draw, which to me is the biggest thing going forward.

when the SEC and B16 "big boys" break off, I don't see UNC in that upper group

Negative. The Big Ten is taking on water. Going coast to coast may prove to be the same within a matter of years as drinking hemlock voluntarily.

I don't know where you get your info, and I don't have anything to back mine, but UNC is in a pretty big media market.

Plus they are a premier national brand in basketball.

I do think they would bring more value to the SEC than would Florida State.

To me the biggest factor is tier 1 football inventory. I would probably go out of my way to watch FSU vs. Georgia. UNC vs. Georgia perhaps not, though it is certainly not a terrible game to consider in your time slot if you're a tv executive.

Although I have not read the full document, this appears to be an attempt by FSU to reframe benefit-of-the-bargain damages as an unenforceable liquidated-damages penalty. That probably shouldn't work.

"media market" is not synoymous with "tv draw"

when we joined SEC, media market was all that mattered for selling subscriptions. thats no longer the case.

also, basketball is wholly irrelevant to this.

Unc averaged 960,000 viewers per game this year to rank them 46th in country. First was Alabama with 5.5 million. A&M was ranked in the 20's.

Great. Come on down! And bring Clemson with you....

And Miami. And Georgia Tech.

My Solution -

Add FSU and Clemson to the SEC in 2025. The SEC then pays the ACC from the allotment given to the 4 newest members to the SEC starting in 2025 for however long it takes.

It is quite simple actually. Don't worry about it new SEC members, we will take care of you.

The big 10 has Fox behind them. Adding 2 from the ACC And picking off 2 disgruntled programs from the SEC solidifies the big10 in the south, southeast and the west.

Big10 becomes THE national conference with the remnants of the ACC, SEC drop down to 2nd tier just ahead of the big 12 and all the other mini conferences. There is no one else for the ACC or SEC to add to elevate themselves to BIG 10 level.

The mouse did not rework the conference media deal when tu & ou snuck in. The rest of the conference members will be receiving less in media rights payouts to accommodate the interlopers.

The SEC does not offer enough to entice FSU and Clemson. The mouse is sucking wind. And the Big10 is about to deliver the hind tit to remaining ACC and SEC members. Y'all can.thank Stankey for opening the door!

Fins Up!

It is probably easier for the ACC teams to come to the SEC, rather than the B1G, if ESPN is involved.

Again, the prizes are FSU, Clemson, Miami and VT. Thinking GT or UNC are prizes is really uneducated.
BMX Bandit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
agree for the most part, but nothing about VT says "prize"

the prizes are FSU and Clemson, then Miami.

doesn't meant Vt won't find a home, but no one is going to be fighting to get them like clemson and fsu

ACC filed suit against FSU Trustees in North Carolina - amusingly yesterday thanks to FSU signaling its intention to file suit.

The part that is false is that it impinged current members revenue. The part that is true is there is no additional money for adding two traditional helmet schools in the upcoming contract.

We don't exactly know how much terminating the LHN cost ESPN in termination fees to Texas that might have funded part of their early exist from the Big 12. So we don't know how much more ESPN has to pay Texas than we have to pay Jimbo.

They didn't agree to an increased payout per school if we went to 9 conference games.

Yet.

But there is nothing true at all about saying anyone is getting less of a payout because of Texas/OU.

I doubt the SEC would have added the new teams without getting at least a rough idea from ESPN what they would be willing to do financially. My guess is that this was a key part of Sankey getting the votes from each school president.

The next ESPN contract will net each member an increase. I have no doubts there.
