The A&M and Texas game is not one of the top rivalries in the nation. The game hardly ever determined the conference champion much less had an impact on the national title.

It's a good regional matchup like bedlam.

A&M Texas is one of the top 5 college rivalries. A&M LSU doesn't crack the top 100 college rivalries.

Not even close.

Duke/UNC
Michigan/Ohio State
Alabama/Auburn
Army/Navy
Notre Dame/USC
Florida/Georgia
Texas/Oklahoma

All of these, and a few more, come before Texas A&M/Texas.
Take the maroon-tinted glasses off

And just like our game, the only people that really care about who wins or loses those games are their fans.

Great Post! Their QB is legit and that offense is only going to get better. If they can shore up that defense then they will be another tough out in the SEC.

I hate playing on Thanksgiving. I liked doing Thanksgiving and then relaxing the following day eating leftovers and chilling. I used to host Thanksgiving for numerous friends and family, so I was pooped Thursday night.

Playing y'all would be good on that weekend, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. It's fun watching y'all play LSU. I'm sure they can find another prominent conference member for us to play that weekend. Arkansas-Texas used to be pretty intense.

An NFL game on Thanksgiving night makes it impossible for a college game played at the same time to draw a decent TV rating. No game will be played at that time.

I figure it'll be A&M/UT on Black Friday or Saturday. LSU will probably go back to playing Arkansas that weekend. Traditional rivalries are traditional rivalries.

First, I was against ever playing tu again. They are a disingenuous business partner. I loathe them with a passion.
That being said, this is not the 1960's . tu will NEVER again have that kind of stacked deck in their favor.
Has anyone else noticed since tu joined the SEC how the media ( ESPN) has gone out of their way to promote negative stories about Texas A&M! This includes SECN & especially Paul Finebaum.
ESPN has a business partner in that school in Austin.
The commissioner of the conference has gone out of his way to stab Texas A&M in the back at every occasion. We will have no say due to the factors above when we play anyone. If they had their way we would play every game on the road and at 11 AM every Saturday.
Rant over!

Maybe if we didn't suck right now we could get our way.

Haven't read this whole thread but I am all for bringing back the game if it is on Thanksgiving day. Great memories of a Thanksgiving meal with the whole family (both Ags and sip) watching this game, napping, and consoling the loser with a "it was a good game, better luck next year". Then back to eating leftovers and drinking.

since we have to play texas soon, the game should be the last one of the season.

playing it any other weekend would feel just plain weird.

As an LSU fan, I enjoy our games with you on Thanksgiving weekend...but it isn't a rivalry. Without going back and looking at previous years, it seems like most of the time it is a good/close game. The LSU/Arkansas game is one of those that is almost never a blow out no matter how the teams are doing that year. I also remember for a while it being on the Friday after Thanksgiving which was perfect.

I have a hard time seeing the RRR being moved from the Texas state fair. It adds to the game and makes the entire thing an "event." Also, I have zero doubt that emotions between you and Texas have cooled much in the past few years so playing that game will make sense from a rivalry standpoint. That lends me to believe that they will bump our game up earlier in the year for UT/A&M last weekend and us play Arky again.

Has OU/OSU said if they will keep playing? Them not having a rival at the end could play into it as well.

I'll just say that a 15 point differential is good enough to not be a close match. Since 2000, there have been 8 games decided by more than 15 points. That's like 36% of the time.

I'd say that 36% in the last 22 years is more than "almost never."

Your corn dog opinion and memory are wrong…

No we don't. Tu was always thanksgiving prior to leaving the big 12. Sip has to be on thanksgiving. It's tradition

This is A&M…if we. Do something 2 years in a row then it's a Tradition.
The new tradition is LSU on Thanksgiving weekend.

Not sure if serious , if you meant thanksgiving weekend that is probably true
tu game has been all over the place usually thanksgiving but at other times also
My least favorite was the Black Friday morning because NU v CU got the 2:30 window
Also played the 9 days after thanksgiving at least once ( 1984 ) iirc we played the frogs the Saturday after T-Day

I agree with you Sarge, no reason to go back to the old way. The new tradition is not playing tu at all, but since it's going to happen let's play sip in early September.

Since the Ags are gonna have to play 'sip starting in '24 it would be best to put them on the schedule in the least advantageous place for 'sip. That place would be the weekend AFTER they play the land thieves. Those 2 games back to back would push those ****oles to the limit and would be beneficial for the Ags.

According to DeLoss Dodds the Ags lost the privilege of playing them with the move to the SEC in '11. Well, they lost their privilege to play the Ags on Thanksgiving.

I'm convinced the SEC will adopt the 9 game 3-6 scheduling but I think the 2 divisions will remain in tact with tu joining the west and ou joining the east. The best teams are split fairly well although the west is still stronger. I could even see tu and ou joining the east and mizzu moving to the west for
Better balance.

Breaking ties between 2-3 1 loss teams on each side is much easier than figuring out the championship game opponents when 7 teams are tied with 1 loss.

If you keep the divisions you could go to 10 conference games playing 7'division and 3 from the other side. Either way I don't see pods working unless 4 teams play for the sec

I did this thread on premium last year. Pretty strong percentage wants to keep the LSU game at the end. Around 70%. Sorry for those that think we should play Texas but you are in the minority and need to let it go.

Hopefully our leadership will understand this.

Oh and besides the majority of Ags wanting to keep LSU at the end. Does anyone really think the sips are going to stay in the SEC. They are not a culturural fit. After a few years of beatings and not getting their way like they are used to. They will leave for the Big 10. So besides the majority not wanting to change anything for them, it would be stupid for the second reason as well.

I have many memories involving A&M- sip games on Thanksgiving Night, with the Ags winning more times than not. Still, I would just as soon never play the sips again for all the reasons that have been listed on many threads on TA over recent years. But with Sankey forcing these assclowns onto our schedule again, I'd like to see a new tradition rather than a return to old ways. Keep LSU on Thanksgiving weekend. Let snippy play Arkansas that weekend. And open each season on Labor Day weekend with the Ags and sips.

Key is not letting tu dictate their own schedule. They will want to keep OU game at the normal Oct timeframe and us on thanksgiving. If they have OU in their pod, they need to play them on Rivalry weekend.

We do not need to be playing LSU and Alabama back to back weekends because tu wants our game on Thanksgiving and OU on the historical date. They separate these games on purpose and to their advantage, not tradition.

Can't let them drive their schedule.

You have no credibility if you think they're moving that game from the fair. Cmon bro.

There's a reason there are no big rivalry games (don't lie to yourself, this is one), are played on week 1.

There is too much mileage/$$$ that all ESPN's networks get for weeks out of the lead-up to that game. The league benefits from that media, and won't give it up.

Except they have a contract with the lame-ass Cotton Bowl to play OU some lame weekend in October. I like LSU on Thanksgiving weekend. Keep that and sips can figure out who they are playing that weekend because I don't care.

Week #1 next year will be interesting. We hosted Florida and Mizzou hosted Georgia (if memory serves) in week 1 back in 2012. I would not be shocked if we open in Austin next year.

I think the LSU rivalry is coming along nicely, and growing. All that was lacking was our success against them, and I think that has rectified itself with 3 out of 5. I hope we continue it as is. Having the 'sips to feast on at Thanksgiving is not a bad consolation prize though.
ac
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Based on what I've heard from LSU circles, they don't care about not playing A&M on Thanksgiving weekend. Apparently, they're content with going back to playing Arkansas.

Let's face it. Most Aggies have to deal with more neighbors, coworkers or high school classmates who went to UT than LSU. UT was, is and will always be A&M's true rival. They have to play on rivalry weekend.

It will have to be on Black Friday or Saturday though. With the NFL now playing on Thanksgiving night, it is impossible for an in-state college rivalry to get a decent national TV rating.
