Yeah we were in the Big XII. Playing tu instead of LSU under the SEC contract would have pretty much been the same because nothing is going to bump the Iron Bowl from the top slot on rivalry weekend in the SEC.
Exactly. The Texas A&M vs LSU games might determine the SEC West winner or even 2nd place in the new SEC West in most years. People will be more interested in those types of games, not traditional rivalry games from the past.Jimbo4win said:1876er said:aggiehawg said:I don't understand why people don't know that. ESPN makes the money off of the ratings. Does nothing for the conference money as that is set by the contract.Quote:
It doesn't matter if the game is played week 1, 3, 7, or 12, the $$$$$ is the same.
It is likely that part of the negotiation for a new contract was That A&M and Texas play around Thanksgiving. If ESPN is paying too dollar for Airtime, they are going to want to put the game on when ratings are the highest. A&M vs Texas on Thanksgiving will likely draw more ratings than A&M vs LSU.
Even if A&M and LSU are perennial power houses and Texas sucks? Which has better ratings? Two top 5 teams going toe to toe to finish out the season or a top 5 A&M team playing a 6 win Texas team? How many games against Texas had the intensity of our 74-72 win over LSU(both during and after the game). With Jimbo, it's about to get SERIOUSLY intense year after year with LSU. People want to watch good games, not live in the past. People don't go to Blockbuster to rent a movie anymore. Things change.
I am talking about competing with LSU and Oklahoma for SEC West division championships in future years. As long as Jimbo Fisher is our coach, I am expecting us to be among the top 3 in the SEC West in most years. Yes, we finished or tied for 2nd in the SEC West 3 times (2012, 2018, and 2020), but 2 of those 3 years were under Jimbo Fisher. Under Kevin Sumlin, we posted just one winning SEC record (6-2 in 2012), but under Jimbo, we have posted 2 winning SEC records (5-3 in 2018 and 8-1 in 2020). That's why I said most years, but I probably should have said in most years going forward.1876er said:
In most years?
We've finished 2nd in the SEC west twice since we joined. We also consistently finished behind Texas and OU(as well as OSU and Tech) when we were in the same conference.

Ross Dellenger was on Finebaum earlier and he is reporting that the end of year game schedules are problematical because OU and tu's Fair Grounds problem.
Ideally, they would play each other during rivalry week and everyone stays the same. They lose the October game. That contract is done in 2025.
So we could have a few years (or none) with a wonky schedule until that contract is up. That would be the fairest thing to happen, so of course it won't. Sooners and sips will be coddled even more.

We will go back to playing LSU in September like we did in the 90s.
This won't be good for LSU. Early season games with A&M typically have a 12th man that is active and we usually play well when healthy earlier in the season. I think we will be beating LSU like we did in the 90s under this arrangement.
Then they need to stay in the Big XII. They don't need to be coddled anymore than just allowing them into the conference. We got new-guyed. They both need to be new-guyed as well.1876er said:aggiehawg said:

Red River Shootout has been played in Dallas in Mid October since 1932. That isn't changing.
True! And the last negotiation and contract signing they had was timed with the end of the BDF's GOR.Sq 17 said:
Ou v tu have a contract to play at fair park not sure when it expires but unless that game goes home and home it won't be the season finale
But the ratings absolutely tanked when the NFL put a game on T-Day night. That's why I wanted it to be switched even back then. I'd rather play it when it gets watched, and I'd think the SEC and ESPN might feel the same way.hedge said:
I'm against playing tu in general, with that being said some of you are delusional that LSU is more of a rival than the whorns. If we play them again it should be on thanksgiving
LHN going away is to ESPN's benefit AND tu's benefit. They were toxic with it and were not able to move to a real P5 conference because of it.Sully Penny said:True! And the last negotiation and contract signing they had was timed with the end of the BDF's GOR.Sq 17 said:

I **** you not. That was a BIG clue that they wanted the option to leave the conference when their current media rights contracts expire.
The contract I'm not sure how they're gonna handle is the LHN.

I've come to prefer games on Saturday and Thanksgiving with my family. Stay with LSU.
This. As much as people on this board may not like it, I think this will happen. LSU, Arky, Mizzou, and OU will all have a say in this scheduling too. I have a feeling that these more historic thanksgiving games will win out, and playing them at the end of the year adds to the buildup and media exposure.Iraq2xVeteran said:
I would like to keep LSU for the Thanksgiving weekend, but the Texas vs Texas A&M game will probably be played on Thanksgiving. Also, the SEC will resume the Arkansas vs LSU AKA The Battle for the Golden Boot on Black Friday. The Battle for the Golden Boot was usually played on Black Friday until 2014. We played Missouri on Thanksgiving weekend in our first two years in the SEC. Then in 2014, Arkansas started playing Missouri, their cross-division opponent, on Black Friday, and the Arkansas - Missouri game became known as the Battle Line Rivalry. Since Missouri will probably move to the SEC West, the Battle Line Rivalry will continue, but it will be played at some other time.
Why would OU get to decide that? They are supplicants. Poor people begging for alms.Aggieair said:This. As much as people on this board may not like it, I think this will happen. Also, I imagine if OU decides to ghost Okie Lite, they may resume their Big 8 series with Mizzou during Thanksgiving weekend instead.

Key is not letting tu dictate their own schedule. They will want to keep OU game at the normal Oct timeframe and us on thanksgiving. If they have OU in their pod, they need to play them on Rivalry weekend.
We do not need to be playing LSU and Alabama back to back weekends because tu wants our game on Thanksgiving and OU on the historical date. They separate these games on purpose and to their advantage, not tradition.
Can't let them drive their schedule.

I'm pretty sure OU is capable of telling OSU they don't want to play anymore.
If that happens, OU vs Mizzou is the most logical rivalry week choice unless they decide to play OOC that weekend.
A&M vs tu
Arky vs LSU
Iron Bowl
Egg Bowl
UF vs FSU
UK vs Louisville
UGa vs Ga Tech
SCar vs Clemson
UT vs Vandy
I get that people are mad about this, but emotions and hate aren't going to be what makes these decisions in the SEC office.
We now have better conditioning and much better depth. I don't think playing late in the season is the problem it used to be. Good games bring good crowds. TAMU vs LSU on a Saturday is a good game.BigSneezy said:MaroonStain said:

Don't forget to consider what LSU wants. Anecdotal conversations with LSU in-laws were not positive about playing our game on Thanksgiving, but that was when we played it on Thursday against the NFL teams. Have no idea how they feel about Rivalry Weekend Saturday scheduling of us vs. some other SEC opponent. Who did they play before we joined?
Then I bet the SEC will return their game to that series and we'll be playing sip on Thanksgiving, hopefully not until Saturday.Quote:Arkansas for the Golden Boot.Quote:

The thing is, Arkansas really, really hates tu. And in the last 10 meetings, it is split 5-5. It would be simpler and cleaner to have Arkansas play tu during rivalry week and OU play Mizzoo. Only one game is affected instead of two and the rivalry has been going off and on since the late 1800s. No question that the Arkansas fans will show up and it will be a big game.agent-maroon said:Then I bet the SEC will return their game to that series and we'll be playing sip on Thanksgiving, hopefully not until Saturday.Quote:Arkansas for the Golden Boot.Quote:
