For me, Class of '89, I'll say Kevin Murray, Bucky Richardson, John Roper, Aaron Wallace, and Johnny Holland. I am getting a little older so I'm sure I'm leaving off some that I really enjoyed watching in those years.

I was a freshman in '87. Start of Bucky era and start of the true wrecking crew.

Bucky, the tank, and darren lewis in the back field.
The defense was just as fun to watch as the offense.
Wallace and Roper, blitz brothers. Kevin smith interception machine.
Man that was a golden age.

"DON'T THROW IT, BUCKY!"

I agree with all mentioned.

But I will add Domingo Bryant. What a player.

This is insane. I know the wrecking crew days are touted as hosting some all time top tier defense, but I've always suspected a little bit of nostalgia kinda hyped it up to a bit more than it was, but if that statement is true, it puts that suspicion to bed.

I've heard of Wallace plenty, but never Roper until being mentioned several times in this thread, and this thread is the first time I've heard the term "blitz brothers" for aggie football. I know that "winning the battle at the line" is a key phrase in the SEC, but having 2 guys who become known as "blitz brothers" has to be over the top devastating to an offense since so many college QBs can't handle pressure from even ONE elite blitz specialist. I started this thread to learn more about the "old army days" at Kyle and it has not disappointed.

saw him play in high school when I was a prep sportswriter. He dragged a Spring Woods team that was probably 0-10 talent to a 6-4 record. Played both ways every single game.

Class of 87, so on offense, Kevin Murray and Shea Walker, with Rod Bernstein a close second. The 31-30 comeback over Baylor after spotting them 17-0 was an amazing game to witness. On defensive, John Roper and Johnny Holland destroyed everyone.
Roger Vick and Keith Woodside on offense

Johnny Holland, Larry Kelm, Kip Corrington and James Flowers on defense

I was a sophomore part-time sportswriter for the Batt in Fall 1993. Growing up watching A&M football since birth and suddenly being at Cain Hall on Media Day in August 1993 is not an experience I can describe other than giddiness and awe.

Did some research and it was almost every starter, not quite, but check this out from the '93 defense. Not all these guys were starters in '93, but they were all on the roster and played a bunch.

DL Sam Adams #8 pick in the 1994 draft, played 14 years, 206 games, 177 starts, 3 Pro Bowls, won a ring with the Ravens, 2-time All-Pro

DL Eric England 3rd-round pick #89 overall in the 1994 draft; played 37 games across 3 seasons with the Cardinals, started 2 games.

DL Lance Teichelman drafted in the 7th round (#196 overall) by the Colts in the 1994 draft, played 1 game in the '94 season

LB Larry Jackson - did not play pro

LB Antonio Shorter/Armstrong (RIP) - drafted in the 6th round (201st pick overall) of the 1995 NFL draft by the 49ers, played 4 games in 1995.

LB Steve Solari - did not play pro

LB Reggie Brown - drafted with the 17th pick of the 1996 draft; played 26 games, 26 starts from 1996-1997 for the Lions, had 2 INT returns for touchdowns in 1997 and 2.5 sacks.Suffered a spinal cord contusion in the final game of the 1997 season and forced him to retire. Would have died on the field without CPR intervention from training staff. Emergency surgery allowed him to avoid being in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
Powerful story on it here

DB Aaron Glenn - drafted with the #12 pick in the 1994 draft, played 15 seasons, 205 games, started 176 games, 41 careers interceptions for 560 return yards and 6 touchdowns, including a 100-yarder in 1996. 8 years with the Jets, 3 with the Texans, 2 with the Cowboys, 1 each with the Jags and Saints. Averaged 12.5 yards per punt return in his career and 22.8 per kickoff return in his career with 1 touchdown. 3 Pro Bowls, 73rd all-time in interceptions 19th all-time in INTs returned for a touchdown.

DB Michael "Hurricane" Hendricks - did not play pro

DB Ray Mickens - drafted in the 3rd round (62nd pick overall) of the 1996 NFL draft.Played 8 years in the league, 146 games, 38 stars. 11 interceptions, 46 passes defenses, 5 forced fumbles, 4 fumbles recovered. returned a blocked FG for a touchdown in 1997 that won the game with 55 seconds left against the Raiders - had been trailing 22-16, won 23-22. Played alongside Aaron Glenn for a few years for the Jets.

DB Donovan Greer - signed as an undrafted free agent in 1997, ended up playing 50 games between 1997-2002 with five teams, including 40 with Buffalo from 1998-2000. 1 career INT, 1 career fumble recovery, 2 playoff game appearances.

Quentin Coryatt, Robert Wilson, John Miller, Bucky Richardson, Kevin Smith, Derek Frazier. I either drank or played video games with all of them - mostly in Cain Hall. While in Grad school, Rodney "Rock T" Thomas, and Wilbert Biggens.

Dat.

Also I enjoyed Sam Adams wrecking the offensive line.

Loved those defenses.

I may get laughed at here but I loved watching Shane Lechler punt. He flipped so many fields for the wrecking crew.

Concur with the WC defense. As exciting as bucky and lewis and Wilson were...you just wanted the scoring over with so we could get back to crushing them....dunno why anyone hasn't mentioned William Thomas. Thomas on the edge, QBs lined up away from him and he still got em. Him over there...Sam adams in the line, coryatt in the middle, Kevin Smith in the corner...transitioning from roper...it was sick. William Thomas's interception of texas first play of a game, a quick lateral pass to the sideline, and running it back for a td....awesome.

on defense obviously Robert L. Jackson, along with Ed Simonini, Jackie Williams.
Most underated, most exciting player to watch was Carl Roaches. No one could move, and get the yards any quicker than Carl!

Class of 90 here. Bucky is the obvious answer, but I would have to agree with many that a close 2nd was Roper. Damn. Dude was an animal. I wish he'd have lived up to his potential as a pro

Randy Matson.

You should have seen him play basketball for Shelby. No one wanted to tangle with him for a rebound.

You should have seen him break the record in the shot put. It looked like it was shot out of a cannon.
All organizations are perfectly aligned for the results they get.

I recall driving down to CS for the first spring practice with the SIDs permission to see the arrival of Jamar Toombs and meet Dante Hall. Knew then we had a backfield...traveled to our opening game that year at the Giants stadium against FSU for the heartbreaker, bookended with attending the KSU Big XII Championship Game. The highs and lows of Aggie FB all in one season.
