Who is wrong? This isn't a good situation. Never has been. Science is fluid nobody had ever seen this virus.

They were wrong about the mortality rate, they were wrong about the infection rate, they were wrong about wearing masks, they now pretend wearing a cloth mask will protect you, they were wrong about how it can infect you, they are wrong about how we shut down, they are wrong to spend state and federal resources shutting down bars and hair salons while at the same time allowing groups of 40-80,000 people gather all across the nation. They were wrong to release prisoners so they wouldn't get coronavirus while at the same time threaten to jail business owners for wanting to keep their employees from filing for unemployment. They were wrong to label anyone who disagrees with any of these conclusion as someone who wanted to kill their grandma. They were wrong to say protesting against masks can cause coronavirus, but protesting for racial issues can't cause coronavirus.

All this being said...Covid deaths are going down in the U.S.

This is direct numbers from the CDC website. Note: The last 2 weeks are adjusted up based on projected total deaths expected to be reported.

I mean... I get your frustration but that's sort of how research works right? You keep learning? I don't know what you do for a living, but my line of work is involves me being wrong right up until the moment I'm finally right...

That seems to be a huge problem these days... if anybody says something different today than yesterday, they automatically can't be trusted...

I would say that presenting the incorrect information as gospel is what led to this situation. And labeling anyone who had doubts originally as heretics.

When you marginalize people and then you turn out to be wrong yourself about what you have been saying, you shouldn't be surprised that people lost faith in you. Especially when your ideas have led to 30% of the nation being unemployed.

I agree about the marginalization.

I'm not sure i agree with the gospel statement... But that may be because my family and I augmented what the talking heads were saying with our own research- so for me everything was clearly based on our best knowledge at the time...

I guess I wish we could separate scientists from the talking heads... I think Fauci has done the best he can while trying to serve 2 masters...

And that's all well and good, but who's to say these "studies" won't be wrong 3 weeks from now? And then they'll just say, "Welp, we were wrong again, but we're right this time!"

It's not a "huge problem these days". The story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf goes back a long time.

If there is no football, our Marxist student athlete goons have no platform to showcase anything.

Not a bad solution.

Again, the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf comes to mind.

The only alternative (which I kinda wish we'd done) is take longer to publish findings... but... they were trying to stem the tide... and you can still be wrong...

Most people in high positions come across "new" challenges every year.

As professionals you have a baseline knowledge for your specific area of expertise.

If i swung and missed as badly as they did on anything at my work I would be unemployed. There are allowances for small mistakes / learning but not these sorts of whole-sale misses...

In Houston. He keeps citing that as some big trump card even though they came out and said that less than 30% of those were even COVID patients, and that they didn't mean for it to cause a panic.

TCH has OFFERED to accept patients. Last time I checked they have not actually taken in any adults.

They HAVE assisted in TESTING.

I'll know for certain tomorrow after I meet with a good friend who happens to be in the system.

Oh I don't believe in rocket science

But seriously... that's how medical and scientific.:.. hell all research works... you're gonna be wrong for a long time until you're right.

Maybe the problem is that it hasn't been clearly presented as work in progress or "based on what we know today"?

Here's what's hilarious: it's not just the college kids. Other countries are starting to be able to meaningfully reopen and among other things play sports (NZ, Germany, South Korea).

On the other hand we now have an exploding case count and states are already having to roll back their reopening efforts. Bottom line: at least wear your ****** mask.

As I said, even if it was presented as "from what we know", how do you tell people who had their livelihoods ripped from them on your previous mistake that you're "right this time"?

From where I'm at right now, they've been wrong quite a bit. That's dismissed as "it's a work in progress", but that works both ways. Why should I believe a "work in progress" now, knowing that it might be completely wrong when more information comes out next month?

For the record, I wear a mask, I sanitize my hands, I'm very careful about who I see. But I'm definitely sympathetic to those who don't want to listen to "experts"

Wrong.

The people's livelihoods were ripped away because businesses were forced to close and in tern lay off staff.

Most people would rather be out of job for 2 weeks while "recovering" vs having their employer close the business for good b/c of a 2 or 3 or 4 month quarantine where they cannot operate....

Your initial suggestion in this thread would have shut everything down. That would have closed some businesses for good. New Zealand did it with economic impact and yet they are still now starting to see an uptic. I can't imagine they will doa 100% shutdown again...

"My plan would've been a total shutdown in February March at the latest. Ride that till May. I understand the economic cost. New Zealand has people who need money. But they went hard lockdown.

My next idea would be go about it as we did. But go to state legislators and put teeth behind all masks in public buildings. No bars open, restaurants takeout or patio dinging only.

Plan 2 would've worked well when you remove the free for all the Governor allowed."

I agree with Aggie2009 here from an economic standpoint. Forced shut down crippled a ton of people.

To avoid more such government action, let's wear masks and not be as stupid as so many in society have been over the last month.

As I noted once before to all those saying Covid isn't as bad as the flu, I call bull. The fact much is unknown makes it scary...and even survivors can have permanent issues. But here is how I know most of you don't believe what you say, if given the choice of getting the flu or Covid there isn't a single person on this thread that would choose Covid (especially if they got flu shot).

To me the biggest issue comes from poor leadership / broken political system.

Trump, Fauci, Birks, Adams, etc have all provided conflicting information and personally I believe even lied at times. More honesty from our leaders about lack of knowledge and greater unity would have limited the negative reaction. This is comes from a broken political system. The masks are not in of themselves a big issue but people feel like they have been duped for so many months that they refuse to listen

Did they test positive for antibodies or positive for the active virus? Do they have symptoms? I guess that does not matter. Dr F said last week MLB should not play in Oct. because it is the start of flu season and we MAY have another wave of corona virus. I mean are we going to shutdown sports because of the flu now? I do not want any kid to get sick. But just yesterday the testing was questioned if some of these positive test were real. The official word on this virus changes every week. My wife is a Superintendent of schools and the rules almost have it impossible to have school. I do not have the answer.
There are to date no known cases of re-infection after a patients was confirmed virus as free. There were some instances of "false positive" tests but re-test of those patients confirmed they were still virus free.

no, it means the good ole USA is just testing by far more than anyone else. Other countries have just as many cases, they just don't know it because they don't have a wack liberal media scaring everyone to get tested (symptoms or no symptoms). We could stop testing tomorrow and see our cases go way down.

30 LSU players tested positive according to the Eagle . We done.
I'm twice the age of a college athlete and testing positive does not guarantee you will get sick.

Three weeks ago at work, six people who I was within six feet at some point of all tested positive.

none got sick
none had even a sniffle, cough, nor trace of fever
my whole team was sent home and told to get tested
none of the five of us ever felt sick, had fever
all five of us tested negative
