Ditto. I would assume that Marchiol described is fairly common practice in college football - we're just the first victim of a rule motivating transfers to blab about it.

Two things:

1. I don't doubt he was given cash for recruits. Cash flows freely across all of CFB for these type of things. Recruits are probably reading this and rolling their eyes at how much of a snitch Marchiol is being.

2. Dan Wolken isn't exactly a writer that oozes integrity (see his relationship with John Currie and Tennessee fans)

The absence of a quick, categorical denial from Peveto, Fisher, and the AD is a bad indication, IMO. If it's a genuinely bad situation, the first questions to a guilty Peveto will be "Who gave you the money to distribute, and did Jimbo know?"

The Sumlin connection is too obvious; he is definitely a protagonist, if only to serve himself by getting the kid on the field quickly via a waiver.

Moreover, the high profile of our program is going to put it, unfairly, in the same hysterical conversation with tOSU and Maryland.

I anticipate this will get much worse if the kid's allegations are true, and there is any hint of a cover-up. If Peveto and any other coaches are guilty, it likely won't be hard for investigators to find other recruiting "hosts" who had the same experience(s).

I wasn't happy after reading the headlines. After reading the story, though, I don't doubt any of it. His story is incredibly similar to stories I've heard from friends at other programs. The 7-on-7 violations happen at most schools. So do the "academic sessions." Money under the table is offered to kids with only a small portion of them refusing it. And as long as nobody speaks up, the mutually beneficial situation continues. Wish I could be mad, but I believe everything he said.

He accuses A&M of holding unauthorized practices/meetings on the basis that Elko said to them that extra meetings are not technically mandatory but that the players need to be there because they're far behind....

He is upset because last year the coaches let him nurse his foot because a doctor told him he should "be careful with his foot". A year later, he is told by a new coaching staff he needs to practice through it.


I was very concerned when I began reading this, now I agree with Hamm. This is a guy who wasn't buying into the new culture (which admittedly was probably stretching the rules in order to toughen up some kids who had gotten use to DJ led practices) and took exception to being pushed to get on the field and contribute. I'm sure the displeasure with how things were going was mutual. There is probably some teeth to some of these accusations about cash and unsanctioned practices, but nothing that will stick unless another player comes forward to corroborate it. I don't think that happens.

This is the oddest and most desperate attempt to gain immediate eligibility (true or otherwise). Admitting to NCAA violations seems like exact opposite approach one should take.

Seriously, why didn't he just find a distant relative that lives in AZ and have them claim to need family support?

I find it interesting this poor baby has a serious foot/ankle injury but now is ready to play immediately.

He's a piece of work. Really upstanding kid. Ought to fit in great with [Sumlin].
