Ding, ding ding. That's exactly what that was. His dad was probably coaching him on exactly what to say in the texts, making sure he texted him everyday about all the "bad" things that were happening.

As for the "mandatory meetings" every level of football I've ever been in says the right thing and it isn't "mandatory" but we all knew it was.
And the language? Look not every coach is a "player's coach" and everyone has a different style, I get it didn't fit this kids desire/personality, etc. I get that. The old rule needed to go away, but the new school definitely can result in cases like this.

The way they just teased this story on ESPNU radio was so dramatic. Literally grouped us with Meyers issues and Maryland. I thought we had a sexual assault case or spousal abuse or a kid pass away or something come to light sheesh it scared me

NONE of the current players will cooberate these allegations, plus the text looks staged... Like i said, A&M can go after this kid for slander if nothing else.
So I want to get this straight... the kid takes hundreds of dollars from his coach to entertain recruits but has no receipts and KEPT THE REMAINING CASH FOR HIMSELF....
He reports he was required to attend mandatory practices outside the allowable hours and all he has to prove it is a text from his coach about an academic meeting at 5AM....
He accuses A&M of holding unauthorized practices/meetings on the basis that Elko said to them that extra meetings are not technically mandatory but that the players need to be there because they're far behind....
He contends 7 on 7 represented true offensive and defensive alignments....
He is upset because last year the coaches let him nurse his foot because a doctor told him he should "be careful with his foot". A year later, he is told by a new coaching staff he needs to practice through it.
I was very concerned when I began reading this, now I agree with Hamm. This is a guy who wasn't buying into the new culture (which admittedly was probably stretching the rules in order to toughen up some kids who had gotten use to DJ led practices) and took exception to being pushed to get on the field and contribute. I'm sure the displeasure with how things were going was mutual. There is probably some teeth to some of these accusations about cash and unsanctioned practices, but nothing that will stick unless another player comes forward to corroborate it. I don't think that happens.

Sumlin wasn't going to leave gracefully especially since the press constantly reminds us Sumlin ran a SOFT program. Marcihiol is just a tool. My guess is Sumlin thinks more kids are going to leave the A&M program and he wants to be first in line.
No 18 or 19 year old punctuates their texts. They can barely spell.

Leave it to Sumlin to push to get a kid eligible on his team who:

And I'm sorry but I don't believe in coincidences. I can't help but believe that Sumlin is helping to push this.
Kid (supposedly) accepted $700 cash, which he knew was wrong.. then spends maybe $200 on drinks and snacks, and pockets the rest.. Why weren't his "Christian values" alarm bells ringing when a grown man slipped him $300 in a restroom?
I wasn't happy after reading the headlines. After reading the story, though, I don't doubt any of it. His story is incredibly similar to stories I've heard from friends at other programs. The 7-on-7 violations happen at most schools. So do the "academic sessions." Money under the table is offered to kids with only a small portion of them refusing it. And as long as nobody speaks up, the mutually beneficial situation continues. Wish I could be mad, but I believe everything he said.
