Great, so by Texas scheduling a good out of conference game, they probably have 3 tough games a year...how ever will they be able to deal with that? (read out of conference opponent, OU and whichever other Big XII team is actually decent in a given year)

And we are not Alabama or LSU...when we get to the point where we are competing for national championships ever year then you can make your schedule a bit tougher if you want. Right now, UCLA is challenge enough.
And that still doesn't explain why Texas? Why other teams want to schedule Texas for recruiting inroads makes perfect sense...for us to do so, not so much.

It's going to happen.

they have too much to gain and we have too much to lose by bringing it back now. that school has never treated us honorably and we should not be holding out olive branches to them until some humility is learned

All of these teams play "rivals" from other conferences and it doesn't seem to hurt them. No reason this game shouldn't be played again.

2) Why Texas? Because it'll be fun, exciting, intense, and all those things that make college athletics exciting.

Based on experience with some other sports, whatever outrage there is, it'll last until we play, everyone will have a good time, remember "damn, this is exciting", and then I hope the outrage will start to dissipate.

I can't wait for this rivalry to be renewed. When this game was played, no matter if both teams were good or bad, there was an intense atmosphere. Thanksgiving plans/dinners were scheduled around this game. Families and friends had their own internal rivalries going on. It was awesome!

The state of Texas claims have the best football, but the two best universities won't play each other...it's stupid. It isn't about who has more to lose or gain....it's about the two best football programs in the state, with the best football, stepping up and getting it on! Bring on the sips!!!!!!!

But I take much issue with accusing some of us of being obsessed. That we are in favor of the game does not mean we are obsessed.

Now, the stark reality for yourself is that you'll continue to see people talking about this because its an inescapable topic. Two large universities, in the same state, 90 miles from each other. Their students and alumni grew up together. Their students and alumni work together. The topic is not going away.

Most people probably don't want to deal with a super aggressive nice guy if they tell you they do want the game back.

And who said anything about being happy about having our only win being the horns?

Also whoever seriously said they'd be happy with a losing season as long as we beat the Horns? I think most Aggies are capable of having nuanced and multiple goals.

We should never consider playing them unless there is more benefit to us than to them. Right now, it is my opinion that they need the game and we don't. So, screw those pompous arrogant *****s.

But, putting those issues aside, this seems like a bad deal for A&M for two primary reasons:
1. Texas needs this game way more than we do because the Big XII is pathetic and this gives them a huge game
2. The goal is conference and national championships (this must always remain goal). A&M already has a difficult enough schedule. Playing this game does not help our goal.

I take issue with both of those points.


1) "If its not us, then who?" maybe be our fundraising slogan, but if not us, it will be someone else on their schedule. They have games scheduled with LSU, Southern Cal, Ohio State, Michigan.

(And they also have Arkansas, FWIW.)

They don't need us to have a big non-conference game or even play an SEC West team.



2) Our schedule may be pretty darn difficult already, but that doesn't seem to faze Alabama or most other programs we aspire to be, who almost all regularly schedule marquee non-conference games.

Alabama is playing Southern Cal this season. LSU is playing Wisconsin. Florida of course plays Florida State. Etc. Etc.

Step up to the plate and challenge yourself. That's what the best do.

At the earliest right now it will be after those series conclude.

I've always said we did our part to try to maintain it - so screw them - if and when they come back and want the game then however long it has been until then is how long we wait to reschedule.

If they come back next year (2017) after a 6 year wait then we say ok...in 6 more years. Our schedule is full otherwise.

And when they do:
a. we resume at Kyle Field
b. games at tu are not on the LHN
c. it's played in September
