Still have a hard time getting my head around this move. But, can you imagine the publicity and attention that would flood our program if it is Spurrier? We have to win, absolutely, but Spurrier as the OC with Chief as DC, Summy on the sidelines and all that goes with the SEC regular season makes for a media deluge on Aggieland not seen since the JFF days. Used smartly, that level of attention is a strategic advantage for a program looking to recruit aggressively and solidify position. Maybe that's a big part of the play here.

If this is legit... I think that is definitely part of the equation. Spurrier is a competitive coach who appears to have come to the realization that age is catching up with him. The demands of recruiting and head coaching take a major toll, at some point your body can't keep up. I think that is the wall Spurrier ran into.

That doesn't mean he doesn't have the desire... With his history, I can't imagine he will be satisfied ending his career walking away from a program as HC when they were down.

This is the perfect opportunity for him to get back on top... Tons of talent on offense, recruiting momentum, a highly respected and proven DC to pair up with, and he doesn't have to lead the charge in recruiting. Even if he doesn't have the HC title, any offensive success will be attributed to him after the season we just had.

It's a perfect opportunity for him to walk away on top in a few years and potentially leave his son in a great position for the future.

There is a delay in naming Steve Spurrier as the new OC. But, other than that, everything is still a go. My friends in low places do not know the reason for the delay -- only that it is a delay, and Spurrier will be announced in a timely manner.
if indeed true, the delay could be spurrier is watching films of the fiasco that's been our season, and trying to decide if we have enough talent on the offensive side to compete with Alabama, Auburn, LSU, especially the oline and running back, to warrant him coming down here and sticking his neck out.

One thing is certain, if Spurrier is hired then there are no excuses. Two of the best offensive minds (AggieRojo's words) with one of the best defensive minds would be leading our coaching staff. A roster loaded with 5 & 4 star talent. Sumlin must win or he is done.

The delay is related to negotiations with Lennay Kekua to be his admin assistant.

Old Ball Coach is not going to be the fugging OC. Jesus Christ people. The next person posting after me has about as good of a chance to be the OC as OBC does.
So, it's a two-horse race between HBC and StayPuft. Popcorn ready!

My concern is that, even if true, Spurrier can't fix the OL, and that's where a lot of the problems lie. If Sumlin were to pull this off, he better have a lot of faith in Christensen, because we had a lot of the same technique issues this year that we did last year.
Give us a center that's not the midget of his family and lets see how good we are!
After what you saw this season, you think the problem with the OL was Matthews and his size? I couldn't disagree more.

Not sure why everyone is excited for a 70 year old OC, spurrier needs to retire. Spurrier hasn't done anything since he was at Florida. Sumlin will be gone next year when we win 8 games again.
No, no, and nope.

Believe it when I see it.

From what I understand Rojo's track record isn't overly good.

His detractors point to him predicting Bud Foster before Chavis. We now know (with confirmation from Bud himself) that Foster was actually close to leaving VT for Aggieland.

He might have also been the first on here to seriously predict Chavis and definitely called it before any major news outlets picked it up.

He may be a nobody, but more than likely knows a somebody.

You're also the guy that swore we were getting Venebles and not Chavis.

So, let me hold my breath while I wait for you to be wrong.

Muschamp was just formally announced as the gamecock's HC. After what was an extraordinarily long coaching search considering Spurrier stepped down in October. They went after Fuente and missed, Herman and missed. They went after Smart, but the Georgia job opening very abruptly put the kibosh on that.

Muschamp and Spurrier are good friends too. Spurrier wouldn't want to upstage or take away from his moment of returning to the HC stage.

Doesn't mean Rojo is correct, of course. But could explain an "unexplained" delay.

This is my own personal opinion: I think the delay is that no one wants Spavital, that Spavital isn't open to a demotion back to QB coach even though it includes the opportunity to be mentored by two of the greatest OC minds (Sumlin and Spurrier), and that Sumlin is giving him more time to find a place to roost.

Again, this is my personal opinion. Very well could be wrong. As I posted -- my friends in low places do not know the reason for the delay.

The important point is that Spurrier is the new OC.
So Spavital has WHAT leverage, exactly?

Haven't taken the time to go through and verify, nor will I, but it seems like NickEZ08 posts a lot of follow-up posts with similarly bold statements following Rojo posts. Wasn't NickEZ08 in on the DC bold predictions that were going on last year or was it recruiting predictions? Seems like he even came back and ate some crow?
