If he wants to talk, you talk and do whatever you can do bring in that kind of a talent. So he gave a verbal to Charlie under immense familial pressure and then got a bit excited about his commitment and talked a bit of crap about a rival school. Boo friggin hoo. The sort of people who let that bother them are the same thin-skinned idiots who come running over here to post that the 137th comment on whatever sports website story was a bonfire joke. Those people need to STFU and keep their ignorance to themselves, and let actual recruiters do their jobs.
Winner!

Sumlin did NOT bow to pressure from an 18 year old.
Still, the young man has been honorable and impressive.
we don't need enemies with ANY kid, especially one who has the network of friends this young man has. he was making the best decision he could at the time.
THINGS HAVE CHANGED.
give him some options.
respect him for trying to do his best.
especially if he is ready to respect us for doing our best.
i AM glad, though, that Coach Sumlin was true to Chavis ... and let the chips fall where they may with a few recruits.
but, if i was a recruit, and i had a chance to talk to Sumlin?
i think i would be REAL QUICK to answer that call.
i suspect the phone lines are going to get REAL HOT...
we are talking NATIONAL game changer here.
is this a dead time right now? when can we hit the lines??

All the fools revealed themselves in this thread. Y'all are mad that a recruit agreed with you that our D had huge problems, and now you don't want him because of that.

Idiots.

He never did have to give a verbal at that moment. Doesn't start until he was an early enrollee.

Could have sat on it for a week or so, and then find out what is happening. The kid looked like a sad wreck on TV while watching the sips being sips on Monday night.

Screw him, let him go.

The boy may learn something in life about talking out of your *ss to superiors.

This is a just dumb. The issue isnt a failure to acknowledge A&M needed to make a coaching change @ DC and struggled on D. It is Malik and his families refusal to postpone a commitment until A&M announced their replacement. Malik and his family imposed their own timeline on Malik's decision. This was arguably not in Malik's best 4-year-interests. He made his decision, he is sticking by it. All good here. I only take issue with the rationale for reaching out to him at this point. His commitment is his decision, he made it at a time of his own choosing. Now he can enjoy his college experience. I'll be watching his development carefully. I think it was a terrible decision.

By Malik's junior year, I bet his stats look very similar to Dalton Santos. Malik has much more talent, but will have much less talent in front of and beside him.

Malik will be all they have on defense. Pretty easy to beat that. Either run the ball the other way or just put a block on him. It's not like tu has the DT's to keep the OL from getting into their second level.

Malik dials Coach Sumlin's office number and hears the following voicemail prompt:

"Gig 'em, and thanks for calling Head Football Coach Kevin Sumlin. If you are a prospective 2015 recruit interested in playing for the Fight'in Texas Aggies, press 1. If you are a prospective 2016 recruit interested in playing for the Fight'in Texas Aggies, press 2. If you are a former player who wants to shoot the s**t, press 3. If you are another head football coach who wants to shoot the s**t, press 4. If you are Malik, press 10."

This is stupid and maybe someone already said this, but if malik really wanted to play for us and already signed with tu, he could always transfer, sit out a year when he'd probsbly play sparingly anyway and come in a year. Still have plenty of time to play for chavis. Let's face it, malik committed when he thought tu had a chance against arky. He was misled by Chollie who, told him they were improving and swoopes was going to shock the world with his progress and command of the offense. tu was going to score points and show him that the defense didn't need to win games. Unfortunately Chollie broke one of his precious rules when he lied through his teeth about the direction of the team and progress of the O.

Once malik saw that, all he needed was the chavis hire to make him regret his decision forever. His parents feel bad because they forced him to choose tu and he's now trying to find a way out.

He's a take. He wants to play for us and his parents realize they've been lied to by Chollie. Texsa is a debacle right now and at least 3 years away from fielding a team that will compare against the likes of tcu and Baylol. Malik is staring down a solid career without significant team success in a league that will lack national recognition. It's a crappy situation for a guy who wanted to come to us. Too bad his parents forced his hand. Making your kids live your dream isn't fair or right.

Oh well. Let's move on.

Would it suck for them? Yes. Would it cripple them? No. They actually have a pretty good LB class without him this year.

I could understand all this parental decision/influence nonsense if they were paying for his college.

He will get a full ride at either place, no? Man up, son. Go where YOU WANT to go.

Even if we called, nothing is going to come of it. He and his parents seem to have too much pride to back down. They made a commitment, and they're going to stick to it no matter how bad it is.

The parents have to sign the LOI if he is under 18. That could put monstrous pressure on a kid, especially if the parent is adamantlt opposed to that school (some may flat out refuse to sign).

Ive seen the "Malik can just transfer to us later" comment a couple times on the boards. That is highly highly unlikely.

KDS get on the phone and get him. All of you haters check your ego. He's was trying to do what he thought is best for him and now with a great hire to make him into a great player he is still making a decision that could being it himself and our team. Gig'em

Getting Chavis is a huge advantage in most cases, but you can't go wrong having Strong as D player.

If he is willing to come back, Sumlin needs to swallow his pride and bring him back.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
No he doesn't. He needs to make it known that you can't play games like he did. Sumlin more than likely will just tell him Thx but no thx. One 5 star recruit that haven't proven anything in the college game yet isn't worth what yall are saying sumlin should do.

Morans. Talk w Chavis. If Chavis wants him, let the conversations ensue. But if Chavis is kinda 'meh' on the kid, just move on, apparently nothing to see.
Trust in the people who do this for a living and who are proven to be good at it.

Or they know that Sumlin was not impressed with his antics post-commitment and know that he won't be that welcoming to him should Malik initiate the contact. Sumlin isn't reaching out to him.

The entire situation reeks of immaturity by the Jeffersons. Seen and not heard/no twitter access should be any recruit's creed; their parents included.

tbh at this point he should back down from TU and commit to TAMU... it just doesn't make any sense to waste your talent at TU right now, they aren't going anywhere fast. I didn't like what he said about our program via twitter, however I would love to see him, daylon mack, kris boyd, and malik jefferson as linebackers under the Chief! that combo has "Potential" Wrecking Crew written all over it

Unlikely. Malik's a friggin baller. Athletic as f*** and a sure tackler.

I don't understand the anger. Okay, the kid committed to Texas and then said some slightly insulting, petty crap about A&M. That's pretty damn minor so get the **** over it. Like in business, emotion has no place in college football; pragmatism should rule the day (if it's not you're, doing it wrong). Stated another way, "it isn't personal, it's business" should be our recruiting watchword.

I don't understand the reaction here. Do people realize that Malik and Mack are two different people? What games did he play?

- He let everyone know he was choosing between us, the sips, and UCLA
- We all knew he had strong family pressure for tu
- He was very clear that he needed to know who the DC would be, or at least what kind of defense we'd be running if we wanted his commitment

Sumlin couldn't give him that (for what seem now to be very good reasons), so he chose tu, where he had less uncertainty. What kind of game is that? We hate him because he committed to Charlie? Should we yank Lanfear's offer too?

Let's just be honest. We want Malik. We need Malik. Will we be ok without him? YES.

But we'd be a lot better off with him. People who say otherwise are just flat out wrong.

One of the things that still bothers me is his father's response to the Chavis hiring, "Too late."

1. He knows that Sumlin couldn't spill the beans 'til after LSU's bowl game, right? And that doing so might jepordize the hire, right? So....what was "too late," exactly? The timing of LSU's bowl game, Mr. Jefferson?

2. It would seem prudent to analyze the drastically changed circumstances that've taken place since Malik's Dec. 19th announcement which have totally changed the game at A&M both literally and figuratively.

3. It's not "too late" according to the NCAA, Mr. Jefferson.

I bear Malik's parents no malice of any kind and wish the best for them and their son, and if that's going to t.u. then that's where he should go. However, with Chief now in College Station for what will be their son's college career, isn't that worth at least a look and careful consideration? "Too late?" Hardly.
