Some of you guys would be crappy recruiters. You have to let it go and stop acting like little kids that take their football home when they are losing.

I would ABSOLUTELY take Malik and Mack back. The meltdown in sipville would be worth it alone. But besides that, you always take 5 star players in positions of need.

Sumlin seems to be a straightforward man of integrity. I get the impression his integrity has been a significant part of his recruiting success. Whatever promises were made will be kept. Whatever threats were made will be enforced. If coach said, "Do what you need to do", then have a conversation about integrity and move forward together. If coach said, "We're done," then we're done.

Your a moron if you wouldn't take any and all 5*s . Look at our defense the last two years.

Dont be ridiculous! We need quality LB depth and the guy made the best decision he could with the limited amount of information he had available. Yes, he did have a twitter comment that was probably ill advised but he is 18. Would take Mack back as well. I'm confident Chief can handle his drama. Just think of the melt down in Austin.

He's a great prospect. If he wants to be here then we should want him to be here. He's 18 years old and acted a bit immature, but if he wants to be here then good for him.
I still don't think he acted immature. All he did was verbally commit to a college that he (or his parents) thought was the best fit for him. This doesn't make him immature, he is 18 and trying to decide the path to the rest of his life, and no one would tell him what was going on with the DC search in Aggieland.

All of us on TexAgs on the other hand, we were ****ting the bed that a DC wasn't being announced, then we turn around and fault this kid for being concerned...

This. All he wanted in my mind was stability. He didn't know what was going on, and it worried him. He didn't want to be blindsided or left in the cold by waiting too long, so he made a decision. I don't fault him at all for making it, even if I don't like the results. And I wouldn't hesitate to take him back now that he knows what's going on.

Those of you with your too-much-pride noses in the air.......get over yourselves. If the kid is even remotely interested in opening a dialogue back up with us, you show back up at his doorstep , candy and flowers in hand, and you listen. Yeah you're kinda whoring yourself out, but you know what.......college football is a whorish business these days. Get on the phone NOW, Coach.

The primary takeaway that I have from all of this right now is that Sumlin played this well, and the chavis hire has shown an IMMEDIATE POSITIVE IMPACT on our recruiting profile.

I bet looch is going to have some great summary data of todays events on here this evening or within the next few days

Not even a question...of course you take them back. Social media comments be damned. Unless more has transpired behind the scenes

If an 18 yo can't change their mind about where they want to go to school then I would've wound up at tceh because it was closer to home. All I had to do was mail a check to Lubbock, but I made a last second decision based on A&M being the better place to study and it took Mom all of about 30 seconds to come around. First step I took to being my own man and we we're all better off for me having done so.

Don't get all butthurt and deny Malik the same opportunity if he wants to take it

Some of you are idiots. The kid is early enrolling and his future depended on playing for a quality coach. There will be 0 defensive players getting drafted from A&M this year which is no way to recruit a 5 star defensive player. He went with the safe bet due to the limited time he had until he had to sign. He made a grown up decision, not a 18 year old kid decision.
You are the idiot for believing Malik made a good decision, 18-year-old or otherwise. He should have waited. He didnt. Now he can suck it.

This board continues to reach new levels of idiocy.
Sure, you fool. Malik could have waited to see who A&M would hire before committing. Instead, he went all-in without seeing the river card. Moreover, he gained zero advantage by going all-in when he did. It's just stupid. I wouldn't expect you to understand. Your typical decisioning must be about as sharp as Malik's family. Mrs Jefferson, is that you?

This is cute coming from a non-agtag. Seems like someone has a bad case of butthurt.

Though I can understand the primadonna statements toward Malik, Ive coached against the kid for 2 years and he IS actually a pretty good kid. He hadnt committed to us, and then changed his mind...
I do think that he's made his decision and should stay true to his word. Having said that, if he changes his mind i wouldnt be upset, lol.
Now, Mack on the other hand...thats the one Id be worried about. He HAD committed to us, and then decided to turn "attenton *****" as soon as Jefferson publicly chose t.u. He IS a typical "dumb 18 yr old", but I wouldnt trust him at all.
This. People are acting like Malik decommitted from A&M. The guy made his decision because tu seemed best at the time. Now there's new information. Why shouldn't he have the opportunity to change his mind when the circumstances change?

Nice non-response to my point. It doesn't take a verified Aggie graduate to perceive how stupid Malik's decision was across multiple dimensions, but particularly in time.

He failed to trust Sumlin. As a team member, you've got to trust your coaches. I doubt Sumlin asked Malik to commit to A&M a priori. I am confident Sumlin asked Malik to wait to hear who the new DC was BEFORE Malik committed anywhere.

And some people here would sell their souls to the devil for a championship. They did it with JFF too.

That being said, most I what I said in this thread is slightly tongue-in-cheek. If Mack and Jefferson wanted to come here then they would be great additions, but the trademark stunt and announcement day drama were pretty big screw-ups. Pretty sure that they will be put in their place though under Chavis.

We need to start appreciating Sumlins scorched earth recruiting campaign, the BDF realized too little too late that Sumlin isn't trying to SIPHON the recruiting pipeline, he is trying to reroute it to college station, and so far he has made some huge steps towards doing so.

**** all this noise about not wanting him back or he needs to learn a life lesson. He and his parents made the best decision for them at the time. Our defense has been atrocious. I'd probably do the same if he was my son. Make the call Summy and get him to Aggieland!

Mastrogiovanni

Agsuffering@bulaw
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Exactly. We need linebackers badly. With even average linebackers, we win at least 1 more this year.

Some of you should also realize that these 18 year olds get passed by their teachers and their nutz sucked by all the adults around them. Most have very little concept of long term planing or consequences. Most are very poorly equipped to make decisions like this.

Finally, Chavis changes the game. The kid was wise to want to know who our DC would be. We were atrocious on defense in 2013 and bad in 2014. We had just fired our DC. So his decision was not illogical given the information he had available.

In a few years when we go from rebuilding to reloading the defense, we can afford to be prideful.

On the other hand, for the sake of humorous discussion, you just learned your wife is nailing your worst enemy. Then you come into a big pile of money. Shortly after that, you get a text from her saying she wants to talk - she addresses you by your silly lovey dovey pet name. You know you'll take her back. You're such a softy.

It's not a perfect analogy, I know <sigh>. Calm down you left brain engineer/military geeks.

I reject the notion that I have at any point suggested I only made good decisions. I would add that in terms of important decisions to a player who expects to head to the league, college program choice is VERY important. Why eff it up by hurrying it by 10 days? Only the truly stupid do this. Dont assume the A&M DC choice would have made any difference for Malik. Maybe he just believes whorn is a better place for him. Time will tell, but I dont expect Swoop-a-loop, M Brown, or J Gray will play on Sunday.

Like I'd take any advice from a poor decision maker like you.

Hypothetical situation: you see this girl at the end of the bar:

... and you hit on her. At first she's flirty with you, but then another guy comes up on the other side of her and she starts up a conversation with him, ignoring you completely. You're pissed.

But, to your surprise, just as the bar is closing, she comes back up to you out of the blue and explains the she has a very intense need to satisfy a man orally before and until the sun comes up and, it turns out, the other guy caught the ghey.

If you do not take her up on it, I don't want you coaching my football team.

I believe Coach Sumlin is not going to call MJ or his parents. However if MJ calls Coach Sumlin and wants to discuss recommitting then that will be Coach Sumlin's decision and I'll support whichever it is. I'm neither for or against MJ and his current predicament. He's an 18 year old young man with a lot of talent and most likely will be a success on the FB field whoever he plays for. I'm certain he's been getting a boat load of advice from his parents, friends, and recruiters over the past several months to the point of overload. Over the past few weeks he's had time to rethink and re-evaluate his current situation. I just hope whatever he finally decides works out best for him.
