It's really him, folks.

I met him at the SA A&M Club's Coach's Lunch yesterday and asked him if he'd really started the thread.

He said that his son had told him about it and said it'd be a good thing for him to do. He agreed w/ his son and said he'd be posting again in the future.

I told Coach that we're all pretty fanatical about Aggie Football and that I know he'll always have a warm reception on Texags and in San Antonio. I then ceased to be the annoying fan guy and let him continue to autograph.

There's no reason to doubt the legitimacy of the OP.

Very impressive man in my opinion.

I had the pleasure of meeting coach in his office in '83. Things were kinda down- turnaround was in progress. My buddy and I noticed in the old archives that the original yell practices were not really scheduled- they were kinda "pullouts".

So I get on my uniform go to Coaches office (no appointment) and ask the secretary if I could have a minute.. damned if he didn't say "sure". I remember the carpet was very plush..anyway, I asked if he thought a pullout yell practice for the team would be good bull and he said it was a great idea.

So I talk with the band, Corps Staff and in a few days it was set. It was totally unannounced like a Tuesday night..Band formed up on the quad at dark, yell boys had the torches out and all start marching through the campus pounding on doors of all the dorms to "air out" everyone for yell practice at Cain. Bout an hour later thousands were at Cain for the gig. The yell leaders found me about halfway there and gave me a torch to carry- one of my best memories of Aggieland.

Also was "on stack" when Coach showed up unannounced to help wire logs. Good Bull- by definition!

It just feels right to have RC and Jackie back in the limelight. Together, they are the reason that Aggie Football was relevant on the national level. Hopefully, the man that started as one of their own will bring us back.

Thanks for dropping in, coach. I will never forget meeting you, John Roper, and Aaron Wallace at your football camp when I was a kid.

Your teams were the reason I fell in love with and eventually attended Texas A&M.
