mtnrunner - awesome info, thanks for that. I'll check out the details on the RMNP site to at least have a few hikes to start off the week with. With the baby along for the trip, gonna have to go day-by-day and see how everyone is feeling.

Hitting up grays and torreys as 14er season winds down here in CO!
Be ballsy and do Blanca in January. That was my first winter ascent. What a sweet climb.Your Friend said:The Lost said:

Nice. Colors should be spectacular. I'm gonna tackle Lindsay and maybe Blanca and ellingwood in late October

Wife and I just got back from 3 days on the outer mountain loop. Will try to get some pictures posted later.
Two weeks ago, we hit mckittrick Canyon in Guadalupe for fall colors and tacked on Carlsbad caverns.
I'm headed back to big bend for a solo trip in 3 weeks.

You have a high clearance vehicle?
How comfortable are you with route-finding in the desert on lightly used trails?
What length of hike?
It's a great time of year to explore the desert trails since it's cool enough to not die. Have some favorites depending on the answers to the above. Independent of those, Marufo Vega is great. Can be done in two days, or a long day hike. Chimneys is great of you want to see some pictoglyphs.
Answer the above and I can recommend other stuff.
its great (and difficult), but includes portions of the chisos, so that's why I didn't include it.Presley OBannons Sword said:
thanks. someone on the outdoors board recommended the mesa de anguila as well.
how was the outer mountain loop? considering that as well.
Bierstadt was my first 14er. Lots of marmots at the top. Hope you had a beer at Tommyknocker (or WBD) on the way home.wangus12 said:Be ballsy and do Blanca in January. That was my first winter ascent. What a sweet climb.Your Friend said:The Lost said:

Also if you have the time, you can cram Little Bear and do a three-fer with Blanca/Ellingwood
October is a gorgeous time to climb. Definitely watch the weather though.
Pics from Bierstadt earlier this year. GF's 1st 14er. She did really well on her 1st backpacking trip and climb
We got to the summit pretty early and I tried to convince her to let us go across the Sawtooth and hit Mt. Evans as well, but that was a no go
what area of the park are you going solo to?AggieOO said:
