My workouts consist of running, some light lifting, and going to Orange Theory Fitness. I wear Brooks Ghosts for running, but I obviously don't want to use my running shoes for lifting and the cross-training type workout at Orange Theory.

Can anyone recommend a good cross-trainer that has some lateral support that won't kill me to run a mile or two in on a treadmill? Or should I just go to Academy/Footlocker and buy something that fits? I've been wearing an old pair of Ghosts that are too worn out to run outside with, but some of the lateral movements in the OTF classes have almost had me roll an ankle, so I'd rather get something with some support before that happens.

Try Nike Metcon. It's a crossfit shoe technically but should work for cross training. The reebok nano on stiff side for running, also a crossfit shoe. Innov-8 has some good options also.

Didn't get much feedback when I posted this thread late last year but I ended up with another pair of Nike Frees. Currently using the Free Trainer 5.0 after a previous version but I hate these. The sole is too hard and the heel of the shoe is too high such that I get a blister if I wear them too long.

I've been wearing my Brooks Glycerins if I'm working out after a long run but I'm like you in that I don't want to destroy them with cross training. I'll probably end up at Academy sooner or later and just get some trainers that feel good.

Here's me thread from last year http://texags.com/forums/48/topics/2653943

I wear a pair of Inov 8 F-lites for crossfit. I have run up to a 5k in them, but they are nice and flat for lifting, and LIGHT.

I use the running shoes I just retired. They are still in good shape just not good enough to keep pounding in. You might have to go to a heavier weight shoe -- I found Mizuno all but destroyed and unwearable for any purpose long before Saucony, Brooks, and Asics, but that was just me.

Otherwise, grab a pair of lighter weight running shoes -- for me, it would be the Asics Cumulus rather than the Nimbus -- and just do a small amount of running in them.
