First workout done of the couch to 5K program. I feel pretty good right now, but we will see how I do in the morning. About to go on vacation for the holidays but will try to get in another workout on Turkey day. I will update again later.

I just did my first day also, thinking I probably should have done it before doing my weight lifting but I think I'm going to survive.

keep it up guys. i completed the c25k app nearly 3 months ago, and am currently training for my first half marathon.

I NEVER was interested in running. Sports, yes, but running, never. Now I really enjoy that feeling you get after a nice long run.

I did the program together w/ my brother, even though he's in TX and I'm in CA. It is nice to have a partner to tackle it w/.

keep us updated, and keep it up!

Good luck guys. About 2 years ago I went from not running at all to running 6 miles about 3 times a week. Once you get into the groove you will enjoy the hell out of it. Get a good playlist on the iPod get going.

I have no idea how far I went. I just took off down the sidewalk with a playlist going and the C25K app and when I hit the halfway point I turned around and headed back. I'm feeling it in my legs this morning, but that has probably got as much to do with mixing up my leg lifts yesterday before running as the running. I'll be doing day 2 tomorrow morning, may need to take the elevator to the third deck tomorrow night...

Awesome! A year and a half ago I couldn't run a quarter mile without stopping, next weekend I'm running in my first marathon. I'm not sure what motivates you...but go ahead and sign up for a 5k race a few weeks down the road. I bet it helps get you off that couch!

Added motivation is going to run somewhere with good scenery.

Sign up for a race that scares the hell out of you.

Then train for it.

I signed up for a marathon (Houston) and have been going at it since July. It will get you through the times when you get hurt/want to quit.

Go get them!

Work out 2 completed at my grand fathers house. Feel good overall but my shins were tight while running. Any tips to help loosen them up?

Ran again today while playing a post turkey day football game. Not sure how far I can but it was a good work out. Will take tomorrow off. Can't decide if I will run on sunday or monday.

Started week 2 this morning. Had to use the treadmill at a hotel, oh well.

Seven, you might be interested in MapMyRun.com - I hate running on a treadmill. I'd lay out a course around the hotel (or wherever you're at) and try to get outside instead.

I did day two on Friday morning. I had a lot of soreness in my lower calf and achilles area afterward so I didn't run yesterday. I am planning to go again this afternoon but may end up just doing more walking if it starts to get too sore again. I have a sneaking suspicion that this has to do with the fact that I weigh 310 lbs and haven't run in about 10 yrs so I may end up doing the week one run a few extra times until my feet/legs get acclimated to the idea of running.

I will check it out. Part of the reason I used the treadmill is that I am currently in St. Louis for work and it is in the low 30's and upper 20's in the morning. Since I am just getting started on this thing I don't have the needed clothes to run in that kind of weather. Thanks for the tip though, I will be using that site.

Still in the hotel for work but am keeping on schedule. I think I am on the front edge of getting sick and really didn't feel like running tonight, but I dug down and forced my self to do it and I feel a lot better now. I wanted to keep going after my time was up but decided to stick to the program so I wouldn't over do it and get burned out. Overall I am really enjoying it.

Found out just today that there is a really nice park next to our hotel. The weather warmed up a bit so I decided to go for a run this afternoon. My furthest yet but I feel great. Did 5.75 miles this week. Headed back home tomorrow

I started out using this one http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml but I switched to using the 5k runner app on my ipod. I'm not sure if it is 100% the same program but its close enough.

Got food poisoning early Saturday morning and it has been pouring rain since yesterday. Hopefully I can go running tomorrow afternoon.

Did 2 miles the hard way today. It was cold I hadn't run since I got sick and I decided to take both dogs running with me. Made me feel a lot better physically and mentally. Starting to really enjoy running.

Been at a funeral all week and haven't been able to run. I will get going tomorrow when I get back. Going to have to run an extra day next week to make up for it.

Keep it up! I also love running with my dogs - and they love it even more.

Haven't been able to pull my lazy butt out of my chair since I got home. It has been cold and I can't get super motivated to go. It is supposed to warm up quite a bit tomorrow. I will go tomorrow.

Looks like I'm a little late to the party, but I started the program this morning. Jog Log said I was at 1.69 mi. in 20 min.

Hoping to get in a MWF routine. Never been much of a fan of running, but I really want to stick this out and see if my perception changes.

Keep it up! Definitely pick a race to set as your goal so you have something to work towards; if you are in B/CS the Armadillo Dash would be a good one. Running an actual organized race is great for several reasons.

1) The sense of accomplishment.
2) Being out there with a bunch of other like-minded people who are interested in fitness is very affirming.
3) You will see that everyone who participates in these races is not at the peak of physical fitness. There are a few elite runners, but you will be surprised at how many people are out there who you might not have picked off the street as a runner.

Remember, you don't have to run the whole way your first race - it's more important to just get out there and DO IT!

I'm in Week 5 of the Get Running c25k app mentioned earlier and absolutely love it! I think the app is such a great tool because it pushes you like a trainer. My British lady is very encouraging

I was one of the many that hated running but after a month, I practically crave it. I just hope I have the same feelings when the runs get substantially longer! The cold was really intimidating for me as well, but I made myself go out last week in the 30 degree weather and getting through that 30 minutes really gave me the confidence to keep it up. My intention of starting all of this was to attempt the Cowtown 5k, but I just signed up for next week's Jingle Bell Run 5k to see what a race is like and will probably up the Cowtown to 10k.

Good luck & keep it up! Sounds like you're doing a great job!!

Got out and did just under 2 miles today. Avg pace 15:12. I feel like since I am on week 4 of C25K that I should be running further than I was at the start of the program. I guess I am running for longer periods of time and walking for longer periods of time so it evens out.

Week 1, Day 2 complete.

I think it was about the same distance/pace as the first day. It was drizzling out (that + a little remnant soreness made me want to stay in bed, but I didn't!), so I didn't dare take my iphone out to log it. I definitely missed having the music and voice cues though.

Week 3 day 3. Weather turned out really nice today. Nike+ said 2.1 miles, gmap-pedometer and mapmyrun both said 2.5-2.6. I guess I need to recalibrate. Still feeling great during and after each run. The first run set is usually kind of tough but after that I feel much better. I am noticing my skin being red after I finish for about 20 minutes or so. It is worse when it's cold outside but still there when it's warm. Any ideas?
