Dropped by yesterday and agree. Great patio. 3rd floor rooftop patio in a spot where there's still some views that aren't blocked by apartment towers yet. The owner/mgr I met is a Stratford grad, for us local snobs.

Starduster was cool, though you might have to wait a while if there's a group in front of you ordering from the fancy cocktail menu. The mix of music they were playing was pretty interesting.


Went to Hey Darling last night, agree it's a great spot, we were able to see the Astros fireworks from the rooftop patio. Hope they can make it, was pretty dead for a Friday night.

Not at all surprising.

Hopefully it won't be replaced with a pizza or burger place. An Irish pub would be fun. Or a German restaurant (since Houston no longer has one with the closing of Rudi Lechners and King's).

Made a return trip to Nancy's Hustle this weekend. Never disappoints and always a fun experience.

We're becoming regulars. Those Nancy cakes and the cheeseburger are hard to beat.

Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'

Talked to a guy last week from the neighborhood that said it was closed for remodeling.

I've read it's closing for good too - but nothing official.

In other news, Angie's Pizza on 11th opened with a separate bar and menu upstairs. The building and build out look awesome. Can't wait to try it.

Nothing on their website or Facebook, but this local news source seems credible, with several similar posts on Facebook.

That place is going to be a madhouse for the next three days. Whole lot of sentimental pull at this one.

It's true unfortunately about Barbecue Inn closing and Saturday August 1st is the last day. I'm related to the owners but we just found out a couple days ago. The economy has been tough the last couple years and business definitely slowed down for them. But biggest factor probably is main owner is 85, still working every day but he is ready to be retired. He's worked at the restaurant for over 70 years. I'm sad to see it go but happy to see him finally get to retire. We now live out of state but I'm glad we got to eat there one last time when we were in town two months ago.

Live in AR now but grew up in Garden Oaks and SPP as a kid. We lived across the street from Louis and his wife until 2008. Many memories there as a child. Planning to be in town this weekend so will try and swing by one more time Saturday before the doors close. Best fried chicken and fried shrimp this side of the Mississippi.

I don't know about 40 years ago, but is definitely much nicer now than it was 25 years ago.

Not soft necessarily. The only time I'm in that area is biking to Brash or driving through to another area and see it on the way. Much nicer places/areas around it, so never made it up the list.

And that's sad on Barbecue Inn. I only went there a couple of times but it's a landmark.

At 85, that owner should have retired a long time ago. Hope he gets to enjoy a good amount of years in retirement. He's earned it.

Parking issues in front of your house? I thought I recalled you having an issue with that with Loro at one point or something like that.

That's going to put people walking a quarter mile or more to get to the restaurant. Loro patrons already have to walk from Love Park up on W 12th Street.

Oh, I know. The owner booked my AirBnB a week and a half ago using a different name so he could gain access to my property and then give me a bad review, but he didn't count on me knowing what he was up to before he even showed up. It didn't make any sense because up until July 21st I had nothing but positive interactions with him and his GM. He drives up and down the street in front of my house and I've seen him snooping up my driveway and my neighbor's driveway on other occasions. It's really bizarre.
