New map say pending review for my area of 77008. I just walked my dog for over an hour and can see no apparent damage. When the derecho hit, there were lines and poles down all around and we had power in less than 36 hours. Dang

This is what's frustrating. They seem to have a checklist order they are going through to do major repairs first over simple fixes.

How many homes (maybe like yours) are just waiting on a fuse to be fixed? In my case, the dude just opened the line to the area with lines down, fixed the fuse and I was up and running in 30 minutes.

I bet there are quite a few that could do that, but CenterPoint isn't prioritizing getting people up via easy fixes.

In another cost-cutting measure, the CEO fired the summer intern and cancelled the company's license to MS paint and has turned the map updates over to his 3 year old.

I'm learning from a good friend that even though an area is energized, there could also be other damage that prevents them from restoring power to the homes. Also, they are having to restore more slowly because of the heatโ€ฆ

"When it's super hot (or super cold) you can't pick all the load up at once bc it'll trip out on overload (like how your fridge was tripping the gen). You have to pick it up in small chunks and let the load settle out before you pick up more."

"Partially energized would be like yesterday when your power was back on,.but the neighbors were still out.
Fully energized is when everything is back on from the sub breaker to the end of the line"

However, the terminology they are using is very confusing and not helpful to the average customer. It's not helpful to provide status updates/changes if customers don't understand what they mean. Also, we already know the maps have been grossly inaccurate.

Fully half of the Heights is "restoration date pending review". I cannot believe this level of incompetence at every level of Centerpoint. We got ROCKED in the derecho and were only out 2 days. It's been 5 daysโ€ฆwhat are they still assessing??

I checked on the Village at the Heights today and they are barely holding on with fans and some portable ac units off their generator. These are memory care and assisted living patients โ€ฆbreaks my heart. These are people's lives.

Posted it in the outage thread but find it quite comical that energized and pending date review are the same color family.

Making pending a vastly different color would bring too much attention to itโ€ฆ.

And the LEAST they can do is communicate better. That's the easiest thing they can control. But there's been hardly ANY communication.

Not to mention, the color legend makes it look like blue is "better" (or farther along in the repair process) than orange - orange is assessment in progress and blue is circuits assigned for repair. Makes sense you gotta assess before you can assign for repair.

Yet, for three days, there were areas around me that I KNOW (Tues until today) had power that were orange and I was blue.


Then, magically in the update today, the areas that have had power for several days jumped to dark green, and my immediate area went to light green. Some of the areas that were orange went directly to dark green, skipping blue and light green entirely.

That map is given an extremely delayed "after the fact" status that is not helpful for measuring progress.

Communication is my main beef with CenterPoint. I get that a hurricane hit and power doesn't just magically appear after a day or two like many on Ring/Nextdoor/Facebook think.

With that said, CenterPoint's communication has been awful. Like others have mentioned here, give it to us straight so that decisions can be made. If anything, give us worst case dates and then when power comes back early people will be happy that you overdelivered even if you were out of power for a week or more.

Yes. The legend goes like this:

Dark green - fully energized
Light green - partially energized
Blue - circuits assigned for repair
Orange - assessment in progress

Until today, there were areas around me that I knew had power that were orange (still being assessed). I was blue but did not have power.

The dark green was not always part of the legend. I think the first time I saw that was in the update today. There was a period of time when the list was light green, blue, orange.

The areas with power around me that had been orange were updated to dark green today. They were never blue or light green.

My immediate area was updated from blue to light green.

Edit - I did type orange and blue backwards in one part of my previous post. I fixed it, but it doesn't change my point about the confusion.

F/ck you guy. You haven't stated a single fact. Someone posted a tweet about how Florida was able to restore more power outages in a quicker amount of time from a hurricane last year and the you bring up a hurricane from 1993 as your "fact". Just shut the f/ck up already.

Katrina says hi. Katrina was a Cat 1 when she rolled down US1. I lived two blocks from US1 at the time.

the complexity of trying to get this data accurate on a street by street/house by house basis is honestly incredible to me.

I think there is a lose/lose situation of giving information or giving it in an accurate or giving it in a timely manner.

lots of people want a ton of information, but barely had cell service this last week.

This is my question exactly and my big issue. I'm not educated enough to say for sure they should be moving faster because I honestly have no idea. But I know they sure could communicate better.
