Is this company trustworthy? I had some shingles on the ground but can't tell if they came from my roof. I'm hesitant to call any random roofing company for an inspection out of fear they will go up there and try to fleece me for a new roof. I've heard stories about roofing contractors just lying or even causing damage themselves and then using that as an evidence you need a new roof.

It's tough to know who the trust.

Word of advice as an owner of a roofing company - do your absolute best to try and be home when whichever company that you call walks the roof. I usually go out and do my inspections with my installers who will be doing the work. Majority of my clients will usually be outside with me while my installer is doing the inspection. You'll be able to physically see if they're intentionally causing damage to the roof.

I walked a job today with a guy who had several shingles in their backyard that didn't have any damage whatsoever (shingles were from a neighbors roof). I always have my installers take detailed pics of any damage to show the customer. If they want to patch the roof until we can come back out to do the complete repair (underlay & color match shingles) we will get the customers permission to do so before we price out the labor & materials in a full repair.

That said - I'm happy to assist anyone on here with damage. We do both residential and commercial roofing. My installers are 2nd & 3rd generation roofers with 20+ years of experience.

Are you in Houston ?

CenterPoint's response was that they have a larger area and so we can't consider per customer, but a simple check says CenterPoint is showing record profits each year.
Eh, I'll give them that. I grew up in Splendora, which is land wise is larger than West U, but West U is ~9 times more populated.

Yes I can appreciate the argument...but looking at the numbers, we are talking significantly less per customer than Entergy who has the densely populated Woodlands area. Entergy nearly exceeded CenterPoint's total spend.

SO while I can grant the unit rate argument, the total dollars spent doesn't help them either.

It's clear they skimped on maintenance to pad their bottom line.

It's why having a for profit monopoly is just such a terrible idea.

One of the multitude of fixes needs to be mandated spending levels forced upon CenterPoint.

https://energyandpolicy.org/centerpoint-raises-ceo-pay/

CenterPoint Energy paid its CEO a total of $37.8 million last year, far exceeding executive pay at peer companies while it sought massive rate hikes for customers already struggling to keep up with skyrocketing utility bills.

A review of executive compensation at large U.S. utilities places David Lesar's pay in a category all its own. Lesar collected at least double sometimes triple or more the pay of other large utilities' CEOs in almost every case. CenterPoint topped off Lesar's $1.425 million base salary with more than $3 million in other incentives and compensation plus a $33.4 million stock award that rocketed his pay well beyond his peers. Lesar made 366 times as much as the average CenterPoint employee.

I've said multiple times that Centerpoint flat out told us last fall that they don't have the money or staff to properly maintain the lines - both vegetation and old/failing equipment. I got the impression staffing was the bigger issue.

I drove past the line that was repaired to restore power in my area. There are still branches and limbs falling/hanging on it. I don't expect repair crews to do extensive trimming, but I was a little surprised they'd do this repair and leave stuff resting on it.

My biggest advice is to ask how long a company has actually been in business, what their umbrella policy is, and to clarify if their "years of experience" are actual company years, or if 10 years is 5 guys with 2 years each.

Dill-Ag - get in touch with Chris Nuñes, COO of the Township. His contact info is online just search for him. Our Village Association president said he's the one coordinating/managing communication with Centerpoint.

Make sure he knows your area doesn't have power. Centerpoint does not always reliably tell the Township what areas are out.

I've been overly paranoid about my generator

I've changed the oil about every 36 hours and checked it every 12 hours.
Didn't change it that often, but I have shut it down every day around 8pm to check the level to make sure it's not burning oil. Little work required for a peace of mind.

I shouldn't be, but I am surprised how dirty generator oil gets in just 12 hours. Thankfully I don't appear to be burning any oil.
I bought a magnetic oil plug for this reason

Imagine telling the public you don't have the money for vegetation management when you cleared over $25 billion in profit the last 4 years.

It's nearly a 1 for 1 on what they paid their CEO vs what they spent on vegetation maintenance.

I know, it's absurd. But this was not a guy in upper management. I suspect his budget is tightly controlled to maximize those profits at the top. Not justifying it, just acknowledging that I understand how corporate bureaucracies work.

Some local news reporters are questioning the veracity of some of these claims being made on social media. When they started looking into the claims, they ran into a bunch of deleted accounts and couldn't find anyone who could independently confirm the claims as true.

I checked the oil in mine at around 70 hours and was surprised at how clean it was. I did the three oil change break in suggested in the owners manual, and the first and second hour oil drained was black both times. I should be at around 110 hours when we bug out tomorrow and plan on coming home on Sunday to change the oil, clean the spark arrestor, and run some ethanol free fuel through it before stashing it for next time.

Absolutely not.....did you bother reading my post at all? I quoted the person asking about trustworthy roofing companies and hearing of companies causing damage. I offered a suggestion to make sure nobody gets into a situation (no matter which company they're using) where a company is "creating work" where there isn't any. I in no way referenced your husband's company in my post. I simply offered a way to make sure people aren't getting scammed and also offered my assistance to anyone who needs it. My company has reviews out there that people can see for themselves, just the same as your husband's company. Please go back and re-read my post.
