Just caught a clip of Dan Patrick talking about him reaching out to Dora multiple times and her saying the county didn't need any help from the state.

The clip is everything you knew it would be. I think I saw it on KHOU.

She's as worthless as the mammaries on a boar hog.

Just a heads up as some of us approach 100 hours on our portable generators, it's probably time for an oil change if you haven't already done one. Also, don't neglect your spark arrestor. On a whim, I inspected mine yesterday and found it about 90% clogged. A few minutes with some solvent and a toothbrush then a soapy water rinse and compressed air restored it.

That's on the agenda for tonight after work. Changed the oil yesterday, but going to do a shutdown and clean the arrestor and put in a new spark plug.

The sad part of it is, it's not the "boots on the ground" fault; they are just doing what they are told. The problem starts at the top.

No doubt. And I think there is credence to the rumors that Centerpoint just doesn't want to pay the out of town crews.

I heard last night that some people started getting power back near Ridge Point High School. My SIL got power back last night in Shipman's Landing. We bolted Sienna on Monday night, so this is secondhand knowledge.

Have a reliable update on the situation in 77389 in the Northampton area. There is a circuit there that is damaged that is affecting power in Northampton, Auburn Lakes, and the parts of Creekside Park off Creekside Green. The Woodlands Township is putting pressure on CP to give them status updates, since it affects some Township residents, but it's been very difficult to get information. The word used to describe Centerpoint is "tone deaf".

If people still can't see why this was a major storm...I give up.

In terms of helping each other, I've seen lots of offers. I think other big thing is, there isn't that much to do. We can't restore power, which is what most of us need. In Ike, I was in Galveston/Bolivar every other weekend doing demo and rebuilding. In Harvey we were out every weekend mucking houses and moving furniture. Those were surge/flood events. This is a wind event and once you clean up yard debris, there isn't much to do but wait for the linemen.

There are plenty of spare generators being offered here.

This. Do your oil changes. I hit the 100 hour mark at ~6:30 this morning, and I went out there and shut mine down (if you have a Generac, there's a way you need to shut it down under load), and had the oil changed in about half an hour. I didn't check the spark plug because I changed that in April when I changed the oil last time.

Do not neglect the oil change. It's hot out there and oil is cheap.

Pretty sure out of town crews get paid by FEMA. If so, there's no excuse.

I've changed the oil about every 36 hours and checked it every 12 hours.
Didn't change it that often, but I have shut it down every day around 8pm to check the level to make sure it's not burning oil. Little work required for a peace of mind.

Centerpoint came an assessed this two days ago. We're still without power. It would have been faster to spend 5 minutes to fix this than it was to write up a ticket, blah, blah, blah. He didn't have a hot stick in his truck?????

Costco parking lot is full of trucks two blocks away. They can't do anything until Centerpoint tells them to.

Because outside of seeing her wonderful uptops, they aren't. During a disaster like this, it would piss me off if some elected official came with press and photographers in tow to look at things. If you're not coming with help, GTFOH!

I actually stopped the centerpoint guy when I saw him driving up my street and got to talking with him about what he was seeing on assessment. He acknowledged my side was good and the other side was bad and actually opened the line so power could be turned on on my side.

He was a good dude who did the work and then came back by to make sure we were on.

So if you see them in their trucks, its worth chatting them up. If it's a simple fix, they might actually just do it if you ask.

I shouldn't be, but I am surprised how dirty generator oil gets in just 12 hours. Thankfully I don't appear to be burning any oil.

For utilities serving the Greater Houston area in 2023, some companies spent double or triple what CenterPoint spent per customer. Here's how much each company spent:

CenterPoint's response was that they have a larger area and so we can't consider per customer, but a simple check says CenterPoint is showing record profits each year. Given Houston is essentially their entire business, we can now see how they are generating those profits...literally at our expense.

CenterPoint Energy annual/quarterly gross profit history and growth rate from 2010 to 2024. Gross profit can be defined as the profit a company makes after deducting the variable costs directly associated with making and selling its products or providing its services.
  • CenterPoint Energy gross profit for the quarter ending March 31, 2024 was $1.832B, a 10.3% increase year-over-year.
  • CenterPoint Energy gross profit for the twelve months ending March 31, 2024 was $6.707B, a 7.12% increase year-over-year.
  • CenterPoint Energy annual gross profit for 2023 was $6.536B, a 4.91% increase from 2022.
  • CenterPoint Energy annual gross profit for 2022 was $6.23B, a 3.54% increase from 2021.
  • CenterPoint Energy annual gross profit for 2021 was $6.017B, a 6.06% increase from 2020.

It's worth noting the former CFO is their CEO...so a beancounter in charge...It's certainly not a coincidence their profits are up and reliability are down.

Power is on in our area. There are no Centerpoint trucks driving around. Assessor that I had to flag down was from Georgia. We appear to be a nested outage. Eighteen of us try to do as you suggest along with calling and submitting the outage several times a day. Everyone is happy to relay the issue to Centerpoint but they cannot come until told to do so.

I appreciate your suggestion. Seems like it should be that simple. If you see a Centerpoint truck, please ask them to cruise down West Alabama Street. Seems like we may end up being last.

I think it's great for shorter outages, 24 hours or less. But this long term outage has me re-evaluating….

Eh, I'll give them that. I grew up in Splendora, which is land wise is larger than West U, but West U is ~9 times more populated.
