Yes it does - measured in mb. And if it's greater than 980 the storm falls into the Cat 1 category.

It's 983mb right now which is in Cat 1, approaching Cat 2 territory. It has about 10-12 hours before it comes ashore so it could easily be in the 960-975 mb range if it drops 1mb per hour which is solid Cat 2 pressure. Winds take longer to catch up to pressure drops typically. Gonna be close.

Different model projections on hurricane intensity. OFCI = Official NHC forecast, ICON is ICON model, UKM2 is UK Met model, etc.

The mph starting point is lower than the current mph, so I'm guessing input was from earlier today.

But the important thing is that Beryl really hasn't strengthened much and is pretty much out of time to do so.

It's gone from 60mph off the Yucatan to 65mph this morning to 70mph at 7PM.

Cat 2 is 96mph+.
