Is this going to be a "lower the water in the pool for collection to prevent the back yard from flooding" type of event next week?
You dont have a drain?
Yes, but they can be overwhelmed, especially if there is no place for the water to go in the street. And it doesn't take a whole lot of hard rain to top off my pool. I'll say that the overflow does do a nice job of rinsing off the decking, but all the mud and dirt and grass that the dogs put on the decking runs to the drains and promptly clogs them. So dropping the pool level a foot will prevent a lot of that.

True that. I had a few mains getting pulled sideways from soil conditions.

I personally love the rainy summers. The hotter and dry summers hurt me deep inside.

But the city has a robust program for addressing the water main/leaking infrastructure issues.

It is corrupt as hell, but it's a program.

no idea about the COH, but Marlon Ivy and Associates came to one hood i own houses ... they put dirt all over the meter and surrounding to offset the heat. it was all good until i had to dig out 12" of dirt to shut off a main this past week. ugh!

I remember having to explain to every new family that relocated to Houston what heat lightning was in the summer evenings. I really miss watching it in the evenings.

Man, that's a term I haven't heard in a while.

When I first met my husband he was living in Katy (I was in Austin). Every evening in Katy it seemed like you could see lightning in the distance. I love thunder & lightning.

Then I actually moved to Houston and that isn't a thing anymore. Super disappointing.

1. All day every day.

Last summer was awful. Hot, AC issues, increased electric bills, dead grass and trees, pool and foundation cracks due to dry shifting soil.

Monkey Paw curls, alright you'll get Harvey like flooding again.

The first of two systems keeps moving more north on the model updates. The other day it was going to Mexico. It's between Rockport and us now.

is anyone really going to complain about big rain maker storms?
I bet a whole lot of people do, especially on the north side of town up through Livingston area

Highly recommend RSI Sprinkler & Drainage. The last few storms did a number on my back yard (see below). Got a few estimates, but these guys were the easiest to work with. Made the decision to use them on Tuesday and they got to work Wednesday afternoon. They finished yesterday and it looks great. They really wanted to beat the weather next week. 11 12" catch basins with 4" pipe going to an emitter at the street.

I also had them rock in the side the 4" drain pipe was on (matches the other side of the house previously rocked in).

11 catch basins??? If you're tearing up your yard, why not just grade it properly?

Whether it's hot or dry, there will always be a group complaining. It's simply human nature.

The lake is still full a few inches from coming over the bulkhead. Any substantial rains will be bad news for those in low areas and below the dam. Ground remains saturated.

Honestly it's not all that torn up. They hand dug the trenches (shovels/no trenching machine) and then put back the grass.

The tall pines in my parents' neighborhood in Huntsville are uprooting and falling over by the dozen.

Every time it's rained in the last two weeks, my mom starts panicking that one is going to fall on their house.

So yeah, there are those north of Houston will don't want big rainmakers.

I'd be more concerned that all that water is supposed to flow through a 4" pipe.

next week's rain forecast per SCW, but who knows given the forecast accuracy lately

AgLA06

Who knows.

NOAA still only showing a 50% chance of a tropical rain event forming down by Mexico with 0% in the next 2 days. Even if it does form, if it forms where they show, the gulf current most likely takes it East.

NOAAs weather forecast is only predicting rain and thunderstorms here short to medium range with severe thunderstorms and flooding east of New Orleans to Mississippi based on what I see.

We just got back from a week there this morning. The mosquitos were absolutely awful. My youngest looks like she has some sort of disease from all the bites.

And we doused ourselves in bug spray.

For mosquito treatment around the house I bought one of these Mosquito Sniper System and it works great with weekly treatment.

You can buy any commercial grade insecticide but I bought this stuff. Talstar P

FYI - you can buy 7.9% Bifen - same as Talstar for quite a bit less on Amazon.

Based on my research - Talstar is just the branded version....bifenthrin is the active ingredient.

I put this on my yard a couple weeks ago. Has done an excellent job of keeping all sorts of flying bugs away from the house.

Just circle all night. Refuel in the air. Leave as scheduled without landing.
